The Dive from Clausen's Pier by Ann Packer
This book is about commitment... and running from it. Hence, I could identify a little too well. Carrie is 23 years old and getting antsy about her engagement to her boyfriend she's been with since she was 14. 14! Before anything is verbalized, although he could sense a change, her fiance goes into a coma after an injury resulting from a shallow dive. If he does wake up he will be a quadriplegic. If Carrie was going to leave before the injury, is she still obligated to stick around after?

Its a really fast read. Okay it took me forever to get past page 60 but 61-400 took only 2 shifts at work. Packer explores not just romantic relationships but friends and family ones too but still leaves a lot unresolved I think. But if you are a commitment phobic too then its worth picking up.

Things I have to look forward to:
-- Not having to work on Monday. Thank god!
-- Going to see Pearl Jam in Dallas on 6/9. I've been trying to see them live for 10 years now. Finally!
-- Cathy coming to visit in July. So excited!!!
-- Moving out of my house Aug 1. Love the house, not the roommate.
-- Buying plane ticket someplace outside the state of Texas and outside the country ruled by texans.
-- Getting to quit job in near future. Could it really happen? Is it really possible?

Okay, fine.
It was an amazing episode and one hour was enough to wrap it all up. I laughed, I cried...

One of many reasons why I have to leave the country.
I can't even admit what my number is. Its too depressing. But the calculator limits you to the U.S. so there's still hope.

I love Whole Earth!
I went there on friday to buy a new pair of reefs. I still hadn't replaced the pair I bought 3 years ago. There was a cute boy working in the shoe area who totally started flirting with me! It was the most fun I've had with a boy since DP was here. He was about to leave work to go rock climbing in the greenbelt and asked if I wanted to join. Alas, I don't rock climb but it was just so fun to flirt. So I may have to find a reason to go back. Which shouldn't be hard. They had so many reefs to choose from that I ended up having to get 2 pairs. Then I saw that they had the Wildlife Works shirts there! I had just ordered one online so it was cool to see how nice they really are and I'm no longer worried I got the wrong size. Yay!

The rest of my friday was fun as well. Picked up JB and did indeed go straight to deville. Saw unexpected people like DF. He's leaving on june 3rd to go sailing in the mediterranean for 6 months. He was literally glowing with joy and happiness about his future life. Sold everything and has jobs lined up at ski resorts in the French Alps for when his sailing adventure is over. So he too will get to leave Austin before I do.

Anyways, the after party ended up being at my house and then JB and I stayed up talking so I didn't get to sleep till after 6am. Some guys who live 2 doors down who i've never met but I know always have huge parties decided to stop by and introduce themselves. They gave me some background on our creepy neighbor that lives inbetween us who I'm convinced hides dead bodies in his back yard. Apparently he also is a peeping tom and probably a drug dealer. Nice, huh?

I dream of a smoke-free world...
What's new with Austin? There's a chance that smoking will be banned in all bars and music venues- not just restaurants. The smoke-free ordinance has made it through the first of 3 votes. Everyone is concerned that this will hurt Austin's economy. I for one would start going to places that I had avoided b/c of the nightmare ventilation- Draught House, Star Bar, etc. So as Austin lovers and who will be returning one day to spend money at its cool venues your support would mean a lot. But how?
How on earth can they wrap up buffy in one hour? Having just watched the 2nd to last episode- where cliffhangers were added and nothing resolved- I just don't see how 1 hr could ever be enough. There's just no way- even if Joss is writing it. I'm setting my vcr for 2 hrs just in case- but I'm pretty sure its only going to be an hour. Not even if you count all the f'n commercials. Its going to have to be one amazing episode...

Reasons i'm so happy today:
--My roommate is gone for 3 months and I have the whole house to myself
--She left her computer
--This morning I woke up to my alarm- not to someone stomping up and down the hardwoods
--There are no longer golf clubs taking up precious storage space in the house
--The house is clean and will stay clean longer than 2 days
--I'm going to call in sick to work today
