I left Padang, feeling just that..
Was on duty at the Padang yesterday, for a JPMorgan Jogathon Event. Estimated 10000 or more runners in total participated in the event. At this spot, i'm writing about one. An individual who doesnt look much like a runner. No, there's no intention of discrimination here. The individual, is a lady. An obese lady in her mid 30's i guess.
She completed the race more than an hour behind the other runners. She's the last participant to cross the finishing line. She SHOULD be the proudest participant among the tens of thousands. Simply because she completed the event. Recalling her 'walk', common sense tells us that she can't run. You can't be blame for mistaking her to be related to the Klumps family. Slowly, from side to side she shifts her weight evenly between her two legs. Pushing herself forward. With every step, followed a heavy pant. Nevermind the jeers. Forget the laughters from others. Cast aside the crude jokes others had on her. This individual is full of self drive and pride. She's determined to complete the event. A lady on a mission, with a point to prove.
The manner she completed the race is a shame to thousand others. These thousand others, they opted to take the shorter route. OK i admit, that was a nicer way to put it in words. The true fact is, THEY CHEATED! A makeshift route, a shortcut. But no no, not this particular individual. She walked through the original route.
To that individual, thanks.. When you came for the event in the first place, you had no intention of inspiring any at the end of the event. But you did, to the individual typing this.
Had a chance to team up with Jeffri again last weekend, 16th and 17th April. Singapore Sevens (Rugby), National Stadium. Terrific, a wonderful experience. Formed a medical team on standby at the stadium. Consisting of current and former Escape Medics, Jeffri, Sahron, Reduan, myself and other medics from stations. The ratio of locals to foreigners in the stadium is 1 : 100 estimated. Yes that much ang mohs! Fiji, New Zealand, England, Africa, France, Samoa, Australia, Argentina, China, Taipei, Hong Kong, Thailand and lastly Singapore. This is my personal opinion. Westerners, they are very open. Striking a conversation with them is not a problem at all. In contrast with us Asians, we'll probably get accused negatively when we stare at one another. Ang Mohs, they'll approach u and expect this "hey mate, enjoying the game?".. I'm officially a fan of the "All-Blacks"(new zealand) now.. Gotta lurveeeee that 'Haka' dance of theirs.. Watching rugby then is a first for me.. Now that i knw how the game is played, i'm loving it! In contrast to before, i used to think of it as a hooligan's ball game.
What to expect for the week..
Well pay day is coming up. Need to plan and set aside some cash. On a tighter budget this month. True enough that i planned my expenditure before. This month though is an exception. Cant follow the normal expenditure structure. Especially with a couple of unforseen events coming up.
Sentosa trip that i'm longing to go with Luqman and gang. Might be a NO-NO for me. The date is set for this Friday afternoon. A last min inclusion of event, i'm supposed to attend a briefing at Ite College East at 2pm. Now, which shall i go? I dun wanna disappoint the guys. Especially since we planned this a long time ago. On the other hand, i cant let Miss Ong down. She has been helpful to me all this while. Decisions decisions decisions..
A new layout for my blog. Been thinking about it for sometime now. Still thinking of a suitable layout/theme. What i need now is inspiration. At the moment, my mind is blank. Nothing seems to come to mind. A walking-zombie in the making.
Yesterday - I have 2 reasons to be happy.
Firstly, congratulations to my dearest cuzzie Diana on her engagement, 03/04/05. You look dazzling sis. When i look at u yesterday, there were flashbacks. Reminiscing the past. She, was a bully back then. You ball-snatcher! The days we spent at our grandparent's places. We have cats of our own, Annie and Boy George. We learn to cycle together, wheel down that slope at our grandparent's place. We used to go to school together. She was in Damai Pri, my kindergarden a few blocks away. That overhead bridge we used to cross together in Bedok North. Same religious class(mengaji). She'll save her sch textbooks for my future use. Bedok Reservoir to Bedok North to Simei and now Tampines. I loveeee going over to her place back then. Enid Blytons, she hv loads of it. Practically, i was following her footsteps back then. Whatever she did, i followed. From Enid Blytons to Bookworms to cross stitching and many more. She was a sis to me. The fact that the age gap between me and my elder bro is 7 years, is probably the reason why i feel much closer to her. Well time pass by very fast indeed. We're all grown up now. And she, is a fine young lady now. All the best for ya engagement with Indra ayte! Thanks for the Rochers *wink wink*..
Secondly, met an old friend of mine yesterday at Dee's engagement. Former classmates in BVSS, Murtadha. He happened to be the cameraman for the engagement. A better Murtadha i have to say, much better. Recalling the bad mischievious student he was back then. He was the prankster, the troublemaker in school back then. Constantly getting on teachers nerves. Well that was back then. We chat about old times yesterday. He's coming back to school, Ite East College in July. I'll be seeing u soon then bro.
