it doesn't get much more surreal than this.

i was working away on some writing last nite, in the living room, with the window open. all of i sudden, i heard a blast of classical music, followed by the 'bbring! bbring!' of bike bells. my head snapped around, and much to my amusement, a whole squadron of bikes zipped by with matching blinky lights on the back of the bikes. the lead guy had a stereo on his back, and the pack of them pedalled along to the strains of Tchaikovsky. huh. i just sat there laughing for a good 5 minutes.

less stuff, more fun.

caught The Sattelite Sisters on NPR today. great show. one of the bits they did was interviewing a woman who works on No Carping Day. very intelligent, useful bits on how to quiet the carping, not just coming from your mouth, but the voices in your head.

small sad bear

walking home in the rain the other night, i saw a bear on the sidewalk. it was big enough to have been some sort of beanbag like chair thing for a small child. but they had put him out with the trash. poor damp sad bear was sitting on the sidewalk, head down, with his arms wrapped around his knees. he seemed very depressed, i wanted to tell him things would be okay. but if you're sitting out with the trash, life just isn't that good.

color me reserved

tried out this quiz (i'm such a sucker for these things), and found it to be frighteningly accurate. you just click on a bunch of colors, and it tells you where you are (mentally).

here's part of my assessment: "Unwilling to participate and wishes to avoid all forms of stimulation. Has had to put up with too much of a tiring or exhausting nature and now desires protection and noninvolvement." well, i don't know about the noninvolvement part, but the rest of it is pretty true.

why?! why do we let this man run the country?

and who the hell thought it was a good idea to put this out on the 'Net? check out this transcript of a recent appearance by the Shrub. and it's on the White House web site, which is frightening. don't they know they're supposed to shield him?

well, they aren't the only program like this, even tho they seem to think so. but it's still cool. Spaulding Rehab is developing an outdoor program for patients.

til we get the healing done...

Van Morrison is rocking my world this week. 'til we get the healing done' - this song just sums up so much of what we all have to deal with.

a loaf of bread...

a jug of wine, and thou. or some shit like that. i didn't want to cook tonight, so i picked up some patè, Spanish farmers' cheese, and bread. made a bunch of little open faced sandwiches and washed it all down with a nice Chardonnay. life could be worse.

hate my shoes.

my new espadrilles are cute, and they were comfortable when i tried them on in the store. then i wore them for a while, and they bit me. big huge chunks out of the inside of my arch. so i wore them with band aids today. guess what? they bit other parts of my feet. hate my shoes.
