| 2:09 p.m. Saturday, October 13, 2001 Friday Five the Friday Five, courtesy of smattering. only a little late. ;) 1. Do you have any rituals or ways that you celebrate autumn (or spring for those in the southern hemisphere)? other than ripping apart my closet in a desparate search for clothes to match the highly variable weather (frost/snow on Monday, 75° on Friday), an event that often leaves my bedroom looking like a laundromat exploded, not really. 2. Do you observe Halloween, Samhain, and/or All Saints' Day? observe? more like participate. there's usually some sort of Halloween party. i've observed Samhain before; the change of season rituals are wonderful and connecting. 3. Carve pumpkins or paint them? when i did pumpkins, i carved them. now i just turn them into pie.4. If you observe trick-or-treating, what will you be handing out at the door this year? i used to hand out all sorts of tooth rotting goodness. now, i leave the lights out. not too many little kids in the neighborhood. and i'm sorry, but you just shouldn't be trick or treating at 19. 5. How do you plan to spend your weekend? sleeping. sleeping, and catching up with friends. seeing my brother and his family, and sleeping. did i mention it's been a long week?
11:40 p.m. Monday, October 8, 2001 happy hour why is it that i always end up the most popular person in the office at 5 on Fridays? and not in a good way... i'm trying to get out, and people have Pressing Questions of a work sort for me. eh. i should start leaving at lunch time.
11:36 p.m. Monday, October 8, 2001 fly girl. i do not understand why this has happened. my apartment is infested with flies. i mean, i don't keep that neat a place, but i keep a sanitary place. and there aren't any holes in the screens. how did they get here? woke up to buzzing. i found at least 50 flies in the place. if you could have seen the scene... i turned into a flykilling madwoman. armed with just a rolled up newspaper, i was out to kill, not just maim. and the cats were no help. they just stared as i leapt over chairs and the sofa, landing wherever i could to get a clean shot. ew. gross, icky, nasty. i hate killing bugs. and i spent the afternoon mopping up fly carcasses. :p
11:34 p.m. Monday, October 8, 2001 yummy. i got huge hugs from a friend of mine when we were talking last week. he let me drop my head on his shoulder while i was ranting, he rubbed my shoulders, and he gave me a huge bear hug as he was leaving. it made such a difference. made me feel very much better.
10:52 p.m. Monday, October 8, 2001 home. sometimes, life feels good. i've gotten the place a little cleaned up, and the new rugs are in place in the living room. i'm listening to Eric in the Evening on 'GBH, and he's doing a special on Cassandra Wilson, who is amazing. and my tabletop fountain is bubbling away behind me. it feels good to be home right now.
10:50 p.m. Monday, October 8, 2001 it's all in the wording. there's a video store near me going out of business. they're selling everything. going by there tonight on the bus, i glanced in and saw this sign - 'XXX Adult Blow Out!' hrm. yeah.
8:13 p.m. Monday, October 8, 2001 feeling a bit Fuck You. help me understand this. no, really. i'm willing to learn. what part, exactly, of 'don't call me again' isn't clear? because if there's a way to clarify that i don't want you in my life, i'm happy to do it. honestly - i'm not really sure which part of that could be misunderstood. but i apparently needed to be more precise, because there were a slew of messages waiting for me when i got home. or was it just that you had to get in that last parting shot, making sure once again that things are done on your terms?
