go. read. please.
i got this this essay from someone the other day who felt badly that i'd lost a pet. (note: the url takes you to the intro. when you're done, click on the graphic and read the words. there is a midi on the second page. it's worth it.)
the words meant a lot to her when she went thru the same thing. it's not an easy read, by any means. but it's ultimately uplifting. please - go. read. terri has an amazing way to express what so many of us have felt. and i crawled into bed with my white cat after reading this, looked at him, and said, 'you know she hasn't really left, right?'
i think he and i both felt better.

whoot!
i'm just all about finding new toys this week. online colour matcher, shortcut to ping weblogs, and now: a nifty script to rotate the images in the layout. many thanks to the lovely miz Jenna over at Miz Graphics for agreeing to let me drop that into her template. truly, she rocks my socks off. :)

you're not from Around Here, are you?
Texan: "Where are you from?"
Harvard Graduate: "I'm from a place where we don't end our sentences with prepositions."
Texan: "OK. Where are you from, asshole?"

Celtic astrology
according to which, my affinity is the cedar tree.
CEDAR TREE (Confidence) - of rare beauty, knows how to adapt, likes luxury, of good health, not in the least shy, tends to look down on others, self-confident, determined, impatient, likes to impress others, many talents, industrious, healthy optimism, waiting for the one true love, able to make quick decisions.
sounds reasonably accurate to me. ;)

also dandy.
apologies for not giving the right credit, but i can't remember where i found this. if you use weblogs to tell people you've updated (and this provides an RSS feed to at least blogrolling, among other things), then you've gone thru the hassle of typing in your info on the ping form every time.
unless, of course, you've been tricky enough to modify your bookmark to: http://newhome.weblogs.com/pingSiteForm?name=name of your blog&url=yoururlgoes.here
because if you had, and then dropped a link on your toolbar, you'd have One Click Goodness. :)

nifty resource
courtesy of madolyn, i tripped over this very nifty online color picker. just in case you have no idea how antique white and blanched almond will look together (hint: not good), this dandy little tool will let you click on a color name and dynamically give you an example. very slick way to check out text/background combinations. yay!

*snerk*
oh. mi. god.
the J and M Show sent me a link to these viking kitties, and i nearly lost it laughing. warning: the site is graphics intensive, with Flash. but it's well worth it.
*giggle*

sometimes, it's the little things.
well, my parents will be relieved to know i've finally found a use for my expensively acquired vocabulary. i found my very first GoogleWhack. i'm so proud of me. ;)

oh, i can't resist...
like any other journaller, i peruse my referrer logs every so often, just to see how all y'all find your way in here. and like many other netizens, i've read about how to mess with the Google algorithm.
so, humor me, if you would. either click thru to this very harmless entry which is not nearly high enough in the ratings for hot beef injection yet, or feel free to link to it in your own blog.
i just wanna be #1. *eg*

i love that, just as we pass the equinox, i find hodgson's lovely words about the season, and some other things.

there were some good things today.
one: had time to take Penny to the gas station, get the tank filled, and then take her across the street to the car wash. and all before work!
two: a quote from curious frog that made me laugh: 'I-93. where else can you park in downtown Boston for free?
three: walked by a kid's store that does punnish window displays, and the one for All Hallows Eve: 'nothing says loving like something from the coven.'
sad as i am these days, or because i'm so sad, i really like moments where Things Are Good.

i miss you, stanz.
i meant to do a lot of things tonight.
i meant to wrestle with some code, and fix a few things.
i meant to call some friends, and make a dinner date or two.
i meant.... i meant to do a lot of things.
but what happened was this: i made it thru my day, and then lost it when i got home.
in some ways, i can't really lose it. my white cat is lonely, and i need to look out for him. he and i need to help each other heal.
but every time i hear an odd noise, my first thought is: what's she up to?
i miss my baby.

short notice
if you can - watch the show on CNN Wednesday am, around 8:30. my buddy will be on debating (no joke) Assasination: Good or Bad?
we (a bunch of us, not the Royal We) had a great deal of fun being his Think Tank tonight. and we're hoping he'll slip in a few refs.

every so often...
i get schwacked by something in the archives. like this:
In the morning my eyes open
without their familiar reluctance.
Your eyes already on me.
I'm slightly embarrassed by the groan
of happiness that escapes me.
I cast from my mind the dark knowledge
we will have to get up, part for the rest of the day.
I smell your face near mine
as we exchange still sleepy caresses.
The day tries to creep in.
How can I steal another few minutes with you?
Coffee?
damn. i want another letter like that. i want someone to send me those kinds of thoughts again. this time, tho, i want him to mean it.
