Snood!

so you need to have played or at least seen Snood to get this. the yellow face with the shades? makes me think of my brother. can't explain it, it just does. i said as much to my sis while she was playing the game, and she looked at me with a mix of horror and humor (i think). turns out she had said pretty much the same thing to her husband last week. how freaky is that?

too freaky.

the latest Levi's ad for low rider jeans bothers me a lot. there's something very, very wrong about animated, singing belly buttons.

fire it up, baby!

so exciting... i've been fixated on this song they use in Mitsubishi ads. and i heard it on the radio today. it's Start the Commotion, by the Wise Guys. very exciting - now i can get the album, and purge the fixation. go here if you want to see the video. (note: requires Real Player and a decent connection.)

sketchy

the Fourth is sort of a sketchy time to be in the city. i've heard people setting off fireworks all night. and it makes me jump every time, because i have in fact heard gunfire in my neighborhood. cars backfiring make me jump too. i sometimes wish i lived in some little backwater, where it's a big deal when someone forgets to ring up your coupon.

donut love

okay, so i finally tried Krispy Kreme donuts. they're good. but i don't see why it's a veritable religion for some people. my ex-husband used to drive 8 hours to get Krispy Kremes. then again, he was hooked on Tasty Kakes.

travelling and compulsions

i realized all over again this past weekend that i'm compulsive about having enough reading materials while travelling. i can't go anywhere without books or magazines. i loaded up on both this time. my bag must have weighed in at about 50 pounds, 40 of them reading materials.

i also worry about making connections, particularly if i don't know the place i'm going. fortunately, i hit all the connections and got there right on time.

getting thru Penn Station, tho... oh mi god. they announce the train about 5 minutes before it leaves. and *everyone* swarms like salmon, or lemmings, into the tiny tiny one person wide stairway, pushing and shoving to be the first person on the train. feh.

landlocked = nutso.

i was totally happy to avoid the City this weekend, especially given the heat (95° and 105 percent humidity). but i hate being landlocked. give me the shore, a lake, even a puddle, and i'll be happier.

fresh and tasty tunes

check out mix tapes on Diaryland. great idea for a public journal. people list out the tunes on their mix tapes. and mine is here.

sphinx like.

my sis has two cats. one of them is a slut for attention. the other wants attention, but is scared of her own shadow. i was flattered that sula actually got to trust me enough this past weekend that she didn't skitter when i walked into the room, just paused for a moment in the door frame, delicate and sphinx like.

eeewwwww.

is it not enough that the cats wake me up regularly by hacking up hairballs? was it really necessary for them to christen my backpack?

i'd be singing the blues

seen out the train window on the clapboarded side of a restaurant building:

warm beer
lousy food
and the blues
