feeling kindahow a girl feels

2:19 a.m. Sunday, December 23, 2001

ah, shit.

i'm listening to the South Park Christmas special in the background, and Mr. Garrison just sang 'Merry F**kin' Christmas'. you know what song is going to be stuck in my head now, for the rest of the weekend. same thing happened when i saw the film. had 'Uncle F**ker' stuck in my head for weeks.

this is why i don't see musicals.

damn. could my brain have latched on to a more inappropriate song? i'm going to end up humming it under my breath while visiting with gram. and that's just not right.

but it is funny. :)

huh. that's odd.

i just went to check the train schedule on the MBTA home page. and i was using IE. the page wouldn't scroll. i couldn't read the whole schedule. so i flipped over to the preferred browser, NS. voila! it all worked. how very odd... usually the other way around.

hangover helper

funniest ad i've seen recently: hungover guy smacks his alarm, groans, and then downs two Alka Seltzer Morning Relief. the tag line? 'Feel Better Than You Should.' *snicker*

last one.

finally conquered the problem of the last gift. had no idea what to get for my brother, and in desperation, asked a guy at work. i like my brother, but he and i aren't all that close so i was lacking in inspiration (sort of the theme for this year, anyway). my workmate said 'does he drink?' *slaps forehead* there you have it. a nice bottle of 10 year old Balvinie, and i'm all set.

Friday Five

courtesy of smattering.

1. What is the weirdest thing you've ever eaten?

mmm... raw quail egg on sea urchin. the mmm was a thinking noise. i nearly choked on the roll - it was sushi, i don't speak Japanese, she didn't speak English, i didn't know it was going to be a raw egg yolk. i am not eager to repeat that experiment.

2. Name one (material) thing you can't live without.

either my stereo or my computer, not sure which. i think i'd go batshit without either one of them; it would just take longer without the computer.

3. Name something you've always wanted to do but didn't have time for.

learn to sail. or go back to school.

4. What outrageous thing do you wish you had the nerve to do?

skydiving. and i plan on doing it someday. it's on my list of fears to conquer, the height thing. and i figure it's a good way to celebrate my 50th birthday, when i get there.

5. How do you plan to spend your weekend?

tomorrow is wrapping presents. yes, i've dedicated an entire day to that, as it always takes longer than you think it will. i hope to deliver a few presents to save myself slogging them around, and i may treat myself and take me out to a play. Sunday, i'm headed down to the 'rents for the beginning of the holiday festivities. we'll see where it goes from there.

me want!

heh. i had sent a note to brian a while ago; he has a fascination with knives and swords and the like, so i figured he might like to look at The Historic Weapons Collection. a few days later, i got this note:

Oooh. Pretty, bright, shiny, pointy. Want.

sleigh bells ring...

cute article over here on 'Santa's Legendary Nine'. :)

*grumble*

i am aggravated. i have somehow managed to lose my current favorite lip stuff, the Blistex 'blast o' Arctic chill' with mint. i do not know how i lost it. i want it back. none of the other 27 kinds of lip stuff i have are cutting it right now. phooey.

small freakin' world.

i was listening to a local folk show this past weekend. the DJ meant to play one cut by Ellis Paul, but i heard the first few chords and knew he was playing the 10th cut off the album, not the 11th.

right after that, there was an acoustic cut from Chris Trapper. he leads the Push Stars, and has done some unplugged stuff with Ellis. it was a song i'd heard Chris done recently at a coffee house.

i got turned on to Ellis from Jim, another local folkie/rock guy (my fave, Jim's Big Ego). they had recorded an album 10 years ago that was just re-released. so that's how i found Ellis.

and then i was checking out Ellis's site today. guess what? he played with John Wesley Harding last year. photos! whoo hoo!

when JWH played locally, i met him. he bummed a smoke off of me. :)

i heard JWH just after (as in, two days) after Chris Trapper. and who was the pre-show music for JWH? Ellis.

plus, when i went to see the Push Stars recently? the opening act was this Irish guy with guitar. Flynn later opened for Chris at the coffee house. and then i met Flynn at a local club.

small freakin' world, when it comes to local music.

so, here's the thing...

i've seen the latest battery ads. (remember the Engergizer Bunny?) and the bunny doesn't show up in person. there's only a small AA battery with the bunny popping up in the middle.

does it seem to you that the ad is a *tad* phallic? i mean... yeesh. the bunny pops out of the middle of the battery, with a lot of *battery* before and behind.

i don't want to buy those batteries any more. i don't want to have to wipe my hands off before loading the batteries in my flashlight. i don't want to get shorted out. *phooey*

is it just me?

dating sucks.

can i just say? dating is no fun. none at all. i've given up, lately, on dating. i don't want to do the work. it's wayyyy too much work. you need to make yourself look good, according to someone else's perspective. and it's taken me far too long to find out who i want to be on my own terms to want to meet someone else's.

i'd be much happier being able to catch up with friends. dating? blech. :(

FWIW, i haven't given up in the long run. i just need to take a break. say, a year or two. :)

static, or undercover? you decide.

i was very happy to have a winter hat, and a reason to wear it, this weekend. i was sleepy and lazy, and wanted to pick up some stuff from the Inconvenience Store on the corner. having not showered, i stuffed a winter toque on my head. voila! no more Bad Hair.

this morning, i got ready for work, blew dry my hair, and then looked at the sleet and stuffed a hat on my head. mew. so much for my carefully coiffed 'do. it turned into only so much static when i got to the office.

nb: for the record, i rarely have a 'well coiffed 'do'. maybe twice a year. :)

you heard it here first

actually, not here, but here. ken pointed out the spoof that jason and meg did on the Segway Human Tranport. today when i got my Yahoo Picks of the Week? the spoof was listed as a prime pick. whoo hoo! you go, guys. the spoof is well worth checking out. made me laugh a lot.

how iz dat?

i've noticed something recently. ads on TV that are pitching something swank - they tend to have a voiceover in a foreign accent. cars, jewelry, perfumes - all of these are pitched in faux French or German or quasi-British accents. why is this? is the fact that we might think a product comes from another country more persuasive than the safety or value rating of said product? eesh.
