well, futz.
i meant to do a lot of things today. and i did. problem is, none of the things i did were on my list. doesn't mean i didn't accomplish things, just... i spend many hours tinking around with HTML, cleaning pages, tidying up code, and generally didn't get around to writing any journal entries. so there they sit, all queued up. and it's nearly 3 a.m. i have to get up at a reasonable hour to pull myself together so i can hang out with sis. *sigh* one of these days, i'll actually get organized. when you hear the sound of hell freezing over, you'll know it's happened. ;)

FF
this week's Friday Five.
1. Where were you born?
Norwood, MA. my brother and sister were born in different towns, but they all start with N. random fact about me for the day. :)2. If you still live there, where would you rather move to? If you don't live there, do you want to move back? Why or why not?
well, technically, i never lived there. that's just where the hospital was. i've lived pretty much my whole life in the Bay State, except when i was off at college. didn't go far even then, just down to Rhode Island. where would i rather move... i've toyed with the idea of living in New Mexico and Seattle. i've thought about moving to London. but i'm really just a local girl at heart. plus, i don't think i could move too far from my family. not for long, anyway.
3. Where in the world do you feel safest?
hm. well, i feel pretty safe where i live now. but i've felt safe travelling, living elsewhere, walking around strange towns... i think safe has more to do with where my life is. i've felt unsafe living in pretty vanilla neighborhoods, because the living situation wasn't good. as long as i feel safe where i put my head down at night, i can live anywhere.4. Do you feel well-travelled?
right now, as i write, this body feels like it's travelled a million miles. in a less metaphysical sense, i've been a few places - California, New Mexico, Boulder, Toronto, Ottowa, D.C., Virginia, Florida, New York (city and state), Pennsylvania, all the New England states, Chicago, Dallas, Montreal, London, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness, Nova Scotia. does that make me well travelled? not sure. i still have a huge list of places i want to go.
5. Where is the most interesting place you've been?
*scratches head* that's a tough one. there's been something interesting about every place i've been. mmm... i'm gonna say my first trip to London. first time overseas, first big trip on my own, discovered lots of things, and generally had a wonderful time. how's that?

reasonable substitute
i meant to get a few journal entries up tonight, but i just worked a 14 hour day, and it's hot and muggy, and i'm hot and cranky. and i had to dress up for the day job, and wear a polo shirt for the night job. (polos are Bad.) so instead, i'm tossing a few short squibs here, and having an O'Douls Amber. not too bad for a fake beer. in fact, downright tasty.

geek quotient
i've recently been rightfully accused of being a geek (so sue me if i could figure out that C Sharp was the next generation language after C++ *wink*). and to furhter prove the point - my blogger code.

Evelyn Wood would be proud of me.
see, this is what i get for reading the onscreen TV guide too quickly. i was briefly convinced that it was possible to get Harry Potter's Playboy Hotzone on pay per view.

hey! stop writing about me!
excellent book review, pointed out by mechaieh - Why Smart People Can Be So Stupid. sounds like a joke, doesn't it? it isn't. some of the points really rang home.
Then we start to really get rolling with David N. Perkins' fleetly written, deftly argued chapter. Stupidity, for Perkins, is best thought of as a failure of adaptiveness -- as "folly." And folly "in a strong sense involves recurrent foolishness that seems, in principle, within the intellectual reach of the person to discern" -- a matter of faulty switching in one's mental processes. Basically, Perkins says, you can be really smart but not know when to engage your smartness, and the extent to which this happens is "stupidity."
and the Eight Deadly Sins of Smart People - i should have that posted over my desk as a reminder.
