oh. mi god. who'da thunk?

i have to say, i never thought this would happen. at all. listening to the news on NPR, and they just said that the Shrub has put forward a proposal that would *triple* the funding for Habitat for Humanity. well, damn. Prince George actually has an idea that i agree with. huh. here's hoping that it gets approved.

doppio, indeed.

so i picked up a six of Italian beer the other night. yeah, it's a bit obscure... but being a foodie, it seemed like the right thing to serve with an Italian dinner. the label says 'Moretti La Rossa Birra - Birra Friulana Doppio Malto'. all good, right? well, i forgot to pay attention to the 18° on the neck label. yup. 18°. that translates to 7.2% alcohol by volume, people. not only is it tasty, it kicks your ass. 8)

the track that had the last 5 plays on my stereo: It's Your Thang, by the Isley Brothers. one of the fabulous guilty pleasures of living alone: playing the same track 15 times in a row and dancing like an idiot to your hearts content. Every. Damn. Time. the song comes on.

given the amount of technology we have at our disposal these days, it just shouldn't be a challenge of Olympic proportions to get ahold of someone. for example: i have two voice mails, three mailing addresses, and a half dozen email addys. i can be reached. and yet. and yet, some people are a challenge.

moving experience

if you see a black moving van around town, dollars to donuts says it's Death Wish Piano Movers. makes me laugh every time i see them.

this also makes me laugh: on the side of the Gentle Giant trucks, it says 'moving? call 800 Giant Men!'. hee. yeah, i'm thinking that would make the experience a little easier.

i've picked up some verbal ticks from my friends over the years. y'all (which i really shouldn't use, being a Northerner), courtesy of john, aka lester, in college. well, alrighty then, courtesy of bax. helloooooo!, courtesy of my sis (and only a .wav file could do that justice). and 'i have two words for you... and they aren't love ya', which i think can be blamed on my boss.

there are probably lots more that i don't even catch anymore.

habits

i realized while cooking tonight that i have a lot of kitchen quirks.

i always have a towel over my shoulder, to wipe hands, or dry off a knife, or wipe down the counter. i can't do any prep without a trash bowl to throw all the bits in. and while i don't mind starting in a messy kitchen, i am rather compulsive about cleaning up after myself, so the place is always cleaner when i'm done.

i even do all the dishes when i'm done cooking. when i'm done eating? dishes can sit in the sink for days. but not if i'm cooking.

no idea where it all comes from, other than cooking for many years, sometimes professionally.

penalty charge.

just got back from shopping... how is it that a few bags of vegetables and healthy food costs so much more than microwavable crap? i got peppers, and salad stuff, and good pasta (Barilla asparagus tortelloni), and vine tomatoes, coffee and eggs... $55 frickin' dollars. geez, i could have gotten a month's worth of frozen dinner for that.
