karma, baby.
i just read my email, and got this comment from a friend:
There are not a lot of people who can radiate satisfaction and contentment so strongly that it soothes the soul of those they are with like soft gentle rain in the summer time. You can and you do and you did.
ironic, no, that i read this just after getting home from a rough day (more in the journal later) and getting into a screaming match with fritz, who *again* called me a murderer, this time to my face.
i just need to sleep. cry, and sleep.

pat on the back.
i'm sitting here at the keyboard, far too late and with too much stuff undone, treating myself to a half glass of wine and pretty pleased. i've managed to catch up on all my entries. first time in a while the journal has been up to date. and i did some housekeeping sorts of things over there as well, including adding some nifty new fields. of course, the setup being what it is, they'll show up on older pages blank. but still, i'm pretty happy with it. *pat on the back* well done, chica. *g*

the addiction worsens
i ws shopping tonight, restocking the house (ah, the joys of payday), and among the things i got was a case of Red Bull. yup, you read that right. an entire case. i got fed up buying one at a time. you can't even get a six pack. but my buddy at a local packy had a case, still all wrapped up, and offered to sell it to me. he couldn't give me a break on the price, but did manage to slip in a free pack of smokes. so now i have a month's worth of pep drinks in the kitchen. actually, it's sitting on the threshold for the bathroom, as i haven't figured out where to store it yet. but it's there. and i'm happy.

show some love.
okay, this isn't strictly kosher, as one shouldn't beg for votes. but this isn't really begging, just a request, and i'm just asking this once. should you feel so inclined, in perhaps a birthday mood, here's a really nifty gift that will only take a second: see that link over there, under 'there', that says clix? click it.
it's a ranking system thru Diarist. and the more click thrus, the higher you're ranked. this will bring more readers my way, which would make me happy.
don't go all kung fu crazy on me. just the one click is lovely. think of it as a birthday present for the journal *and* me. thanks, guys!

with friends like that...
question: when you wander thru the Square late at night and bump into a few friends, one of whom is a drunk clown who served time and the other of whom is a CNN commentator - what does that say about your social life?

hot hot, sweaty sweaty, signee signee!
this is how hot it's been: i had to stop typing the other night because my fingers were sticking to the keys. i had sweat so much that there was a dense layer of sweat grit on all the keys and the mouse. i had to grab a Clorox wipe and scrub it down. 20 minutes later, same thing. lather, rinse and repeat. and pray for rain.
bonus points to the person who can tell where i nicked the title for this. :)

eeewwww.
sometimes, you can't win for losing.
i've been mildly uncomfortable the last few days, what with the itching from my peeling Irish Tan and the itching from the scrofulous scab on my left foot. plus, it hurt to flex my foot because things had tightened up where the abrasion is.
i finally caved in and got some of those 'advanced healing' bandaids. in theory, they form the top layer so that your cut will heal more quickly. odd things. they don't really have a pad, like the gauze bit on regular bandaids.
apparently, there's a compound on them that causes a chemical reaction and a lot of fluid. okay, pus. and then the fluid gradually solidifies into something approximately the texture of snot.
the foot isn't itchy any more, but god, is it gross.

behind the curve
am i the only person who didn't hear the release of the unreleased DMB album last year? i just picked up the official version, and it's been getting a lot of play time in the stereo. i especially like Bartender.

only in Cambridge.
(a phrase familiar to any of you who have spent time in this fine Republik)
i saw the oddest thing the other day. driving in to the Square, i saw a bike coming at me. set aside he was on the wrong side of the street. it was very, very tall. for a sec, i thought it was a unicycle. then i saw that it was more like the old-fashioned bikes (only in stainless steel) with a very big front wheel and a very tiny back wheel.
okay, funky right there. then as he went by i saw that his seat was a plastic carousel horse.

worry, worry...
i'm concerned about a friend of mine. the details aren't important (you know who you are, sweetie), but he's in a rough place right now. it hurts to see him getting his heart trampled on. short of being available to talk, there isn't anything i can do to help. and that hurts, too.
wait, there is a way to help. and you can too. if there's someone in your life that you care about (friend, partner, cat, ferret, whatever...) take a minute to give them a hug and tell them you love them. let them know they matter.

odd dream
i had such an odd dream last week. mind you, i've dreamed entire John le Carré novels. but this one was odd.
somewhere along the line, i had to put on inflatable platform shoes to escape. they would have been cool shoes had i not needed to run in them. i was sitting on a bench sofa, after having figured out the elevator and walked thru the kitchen.
so, the shoes. black platform, and i started to pump up the soles. when i was done, the shoes were two feet tall - not counting the tops.
i tried to walk, and (surprise) fell over. it was sort of like trying to walk in one of those inflatable fun houses. in order to deflate the shoes to the point that they were walkable, i had to punch a hole in the shoes.
have i mentioned that i battle insomnia, and have very odd dreams? ;)

a day late and a dollar short...
here's my entry for Tuesday's This or That... yes, i know i'm late. :)
1. Dr. Seuss characters: the Cat in the Hat or the Grinch?
for me, Cat in the Hat. love him. i have taped the Grinch for my sis, because she loves the story. she could (and i kid you not) recite all the words backwards.
2. "Anne of Green Gables" or "Little Women"?
hrm. that's a tough one. read both early on, and loved both of them. on the one hand, LW is a local story, and i identify with one of the characters (brownie points if you can guess who). then again, i adore the local fishing community, and local farms, both big factors in AOGG. i have to call it a draw.
3. Nancy Drew or the Hardy Boys?
Hardy Boys. even before the TV series came on, i adored the Hardy Boys. i get that Nancy was well written (at least the ones i read), and that she was liberated for the time of the books. but. i have a weakness for Sherlock Holmes, which predisposes me to like HB more.
4. Winnie the Pooh characters: Tigger or Eeyore?
neither. i grew up with Pooh, and always identified with Eeyore. but the stories were ruined for me by my ex husband, who resembled Pooh more than any human should.
5. Which author: Judy Blume or Beverly Cleary?
again, tough call. i read both early on. but i guess the vote has to go for Cleary, if for no other reason than the worm book.
6. Roald Dahl books: "Charlie & the Chocolate Factory" (Willy Wonka) or "James & the Giant Peach"?
Peach. peach peach peach. read both, saw both. adored the film of Charlie. but right now, i like Peach better. darker, harder, more like what life is like.
7. "Harry Potter" or "The Wizard of Oz"?
i will always have a soft spot for WoO. it was the first film i saw in color, and the first time i remember my parents letting me stay up late (7 to 9, which when you're 6, is late). right now, i'd have to say apples and oranges. Oz talks about the same things as Harry, but in a very different way, if for no other reason than it was written decades before.
8. Curious George or Madeline?
the monkey. how can you not love the monkey? ;)
9. "A Wrinkle in Time" or "Little House on the Prairie"?
i watched LHOTP for years, and i read all the books before that. but Wrinkle in Time was one of my first exposures to sci fi, along with Ursula LeGuin. for that, i will always love Wrinkle in Time more.
10. Dr. Seuss again: "Horton Hears a Who" or "The Lorax"?
Lorax. in a heart beat. did i ever mention that i was veg for a decade or more because i thought i could save the planet?

changes, mayhap?
you may have noticed that there's a nifty new little toy on the side over there. *points* i tossed up a poll, because i'd really like some reader feedback on a few things.
i've been mumbling around the idea of changing the blog. part of it comes from the fact that i've had a domain registered for some time, and haven't done anything with it. one of the birthday presents i'm going to give myself is a host for the domain. it will allow me to do a lot of little side projects that don't fit neatly here.
and i'd like to make this place a little more user friendly, easier to navigate. but it may be that i'm the only one who thinks that. maybe you like this little corner the way it is? maybe i'm just getting antsy because i see nifty things that people have done with other sites, and i want to try things out here.
so tell me. vote, early and often. leave comments. drop me a line. what would you like to see here?
