gag me with a pitchfork.
y'know, if the Rivers Twitters (melissa and joan, that is) fell off the face of the earth tomorrow and took their damn microphones with them... i wouldn't be heartbroken.

avast, matey.
Your pirate name is:
Iron Bess Kidd
A pirate's life isn't easy; it takes a tough person. That's okay with you, though, since you are that person. Even though you're not always the traditional swaggering gallant, your steadiness and planning make you a fine, reliable pirate. Arr!

'if you deal with something that can't be kept on a leash?'
i love Ice T.
if you saw Conan last night? you know why i love this guy. and if not? alligators. that's all i have to say. alligators. :)

FF
heh. so, just got the email notify for Friday Five. but for some reason, my Pitas account doesn't think it's Friday yet. so, am i early?
1. What was/is your favorite subject in school? Why?
oh. hrm. eh. subjects? algebra/calculus/geography. but. it's hard to separate this question from the next.
2. Who was your favorite teacher? Why?
i had several favorite teachers. they were all department heads. if i got into school early? i could walk into their office, coffee warmer mug in hand, and chat them up for at least half an hour. 'so, how about those bungalows on the bay?' (you had to be there)
3. What is your favorite memory of school?
making the grade, baby. i (geek that i am) loved making the grade. most abysmal memory in grade school - my favorite math teacher asking my why i made only a 60 on the last test. i hated disappointing him.
4. What was your favorite recess game?
i hated recess. every day. i also hated gym.
5. What did you hate most about school?
not meeting my teachers' expectations. by extension, not meeting my own expectations.

seeing ourselves
i often read Killing the Buddha. i'm glad to see they've highlighted this article on seeing ourselves from last year this time. the image of the universe contained in each of us makes me hopeful.

still with us
i've been visiting friends' journals, wanting to know how they're doing, observing, remembering on this day. altho that last isn't really an accurate idea, as sars points out in The Fastest Year. none of us have really forgotten.

struggling.
we're coming up on the anniversary of 9/11. hell, by the time i'm writing this... we're 6 hours and 46 minutes from the first minute.
it seems too big an event (an event. gah.) to understand, even now, even a year later. has it really been a whole year? are we any closer to understanding what happened, and why?
i've been struggling with the memories, and thinking about who we lost (closer for some than others, but we were all touched)... and trying to find the right way to honor/remember/move on.
for me, i think i'll be doing some praying. my church downtown is having a service at 5:30, and then walking to a temple around the corner for another service. somehow, that feels like the right place to be, for me. it's a healing, open, understanding place to be. after that, i think i'll head over to where there was a huge impromptu shrine last year. i'll bring candles and matches, and sit there.
i may pray there. i may just think, and meditate, and hold hands with others who come by.
to those of you who read here - ((hugs)). i hope you find your own way to honor and remember.

correct me if i'm wrong...
but don't cars going thru an intersection at a green light have the right of way over anyone wanting to turn? thought so. wanna explain that to the twat who not only nearly took off my front end, but bitched me out in the process?
i decided it wasn't letting her hit me, even though i would have gotten the insurance money and fucked up her driving record. sometimes, it's just not worth the aggravation.
oh, wait... she was trying to turn into a *liquor store parking lot*! at 10 in the morning! no wonder she was cranky! she must have run out of rotgut hootch! *grimace*

this or that
courtesy of the passionate ailurophile.
1. Paper or plastic?
oh, i suppose i should say paper. it's the ecologically correct choice. but usually i go for plastic, because i use the bags to bag up the kitty poop when i clean the litter box. trust me - after you've smelled the stench of kitty poop fermenting in your garbage, you learn the goodness of bagging it up.
2. Stripes or plaid?
neither, most of the time. solid colors for me. i'll occasionally break out the tasteful houndstooth check, but that's about it.
3. Baseball or football?
baseball, baby! i'm all about the Boys of Summer, specifically My Boys, the Red Sox. Daubach is my daddy.
4. TV or movies?
this would have been a much tougher choice 10 years ago, when it was possible to go to the movies for less than the cost of a mortgage payment. now? TV. specifically, cable.
5. Craig Kilborn or Conan O'Brien?
Cooooohnaaaan OooooooooBRIannnnn! (that was the closest i could come to typing out his emcee's holler.) Conan has gotten to be a pretty funny host. i like him. and i rooted for him when he started out, because, well, i root for the underdogs.
i loathe and detest Kilborn with an unnatural passion. the sound of his voice sets my teeth on edge. best thing he ever did was leave The Daily Show. even if jon weren't cute and funny, i would have liked him anyway.
6. Amazon or BN.com?
Amazon. i've never much liked BandN as a physical store, so i wasn't inspired to check out their site.
7. Yahoo or Google?
pretty much, Google. there's less and less difference between search engines these days, so it doesn't matter as much as it used to. i started with Yahoo, and still rely on them for maps and phone numbers. but for general research sort of things, it's Google.
8. Star Trek or Star Wars?
hm. that's a tough one. early Star Wars, most of Trek. there. i choose not to choose. on a related note: i just started reading Wil Wheaton's journal today. funny guy.
9. Cats or dogs?
i'm owned by two cats. pretty much answers that, doesn't it? ;)
10. Is that for here or to go?
to go.

sometimes, life just kicks you in the teeth for no apparent reason. the best one can hope for is later enlightenment.

a bit of a teaser
i'm still recovering from last night, and have entries to catch up on. but i wanted to share at least the review of the Stones show. yes, it was that good. and yes, i saw Bill Murray.
