3.11.2002 Long Time No See

Well, Classes ramped up and I let the Pita go again.
big surprise? I guess not.
But I'll try to keep it in mind a little more in the upcoming days. Cheers!

11.24.2001 It's Raining!

Ack - I thought it was just a short downpour, but it's raining like crazy here in San Diego.
When it rains this infrequently, it becomes very obvious how lax I have let myself grow - I had no umbrella (never did in PA either) but worse, no shoes (sandals!) no jacket, no hat, nothing...
and I was going to sit outside a starbucks and study, too... Oh well.
(PS, don't tell anyone, but it makes me a little homesick when it rains like this.)

11.8.2001 Roadfood.com

Yes, it's actually a link today!
This site was a lot of fun - go on there and see if you've been missing out on local color in dining.
I can personally say that their reviews of Pittsburgh food were spot-on, and made me miss home... Ahh, for the joys of a Primanti's Sandwich.
I definitely intend to look into the restaurants they reviewed for San Diego - especially the San Diego Chicken Pie Shop.
I'll post the results here - can you stand the wait?

11.5.2001 Movies

Over the weekend I saw two movies:
Freddy got Fingered (the tom green movie) was so bad we stopped watching long before he got to Pakistan... I didn't even see the main actress. I feel like I dodged a bullet on that one.
The One - a new Jet Li movie, is a real special effects blockbuster. It has some great fight scenes, and the plot was substantial enough to support them. Unfortunately, the fighting isn't as good as some great kung fu movies (see the legend of Drunken Master) Also, Jet Li has a better command of English than say, Jackie Chan, who I saw on SNL recently. (But he's still funny!)
In summary, two thumbs down, then two thumbs up* *-assuming you like kung fu fighting

11.5.2001 Midterm = No updates

Hi - a midterm in Computer Architecture has prevented me from updating this.. I'll add some new stuff now, and try to keep up more in the future. Graduate school is hectic.

10.8.2001 Downtown Disney

After hanging out in Venice for a while, we went back south toward home. On a whim we stopped for dinner at Downtown Disney (next to Disneyland) in Anaheim. They have some really cool shops and restaurants there. A really great time - I'd suggest the La Brea Bakery's Demi Baguette sandwich. mmm.

10.8.2001 L.A.

On Saturday we went to L.A. and had lunch at James' Beach restaurant in Venice. What a great place - you've got to try the 'Coast Toast'. And wait until you taste the scones.

10.1.2001 Beach Party

Sunday the department had a beach party in Pacific Beach.
A really beautiful beach, wasn't too crowded, and there was a nice grassy park on the hill above.
The map said it was 'Palisades Park' - didn't I hear that in a beach boys song or something? Anyway, it seemed too small to be famous, but it was very nice.

9.28.2001 Rubio's Baja Grill

I had lunch at Rubio's today - mmmmm.
A fish taco and chicken enchilada with beans and rice - so much more of a meal than you'll get at Taco Bell or something like that.
But I'm not too sure I trust them. I've been getting irrational urges to go back and eat more fish tacos. Perhaps there is a mind control ingredient in the beer-battering?
Only time will tell.

9.27.2001 Toasted, Resurrected!

Okay, so it's been a really long time.
I've decided to start updating the pita again, now that I live so far away from everyone that ever knew me.
(Update - I moved to San Diego, to start a CS PhD at UCSD.)
This page should have occasional missives from me toward the east coast. Enjoy!

3.28.2000 Loopmonkey

Apparently a major attraction in State College that I've been missing out on, this guy rides the Loop Bus around campus all night on the weekends, and entertains the drunk people (and vice-versa) Take a look - some great pics!
Uh, oh yeah, and he has a stuffed monkey.

3.18.2000 Radio that doesn't suck!

If you're actually reading this to see cool sites to go to, here's one just for you -
NetRadio.com is a great place to get streaming audio (120 different channels) it's free, and if you have a fast enough connection to use RealAudio, it's totally worth it!
I listen to the Psychedelic Rock, Woodstock 1960, Pre-Fab 60's, Funk, Classic Crooners, Quiet Classics, and Baroque channels. What channels do you like?

3.18.2000 Science in Sunny California

It's been a long time between updates, yes?
I've been busy - I applied for an internship at Lawrence Livermore National Labs (hence the link).
Take a look at what I've been trying to get in on!

10.13.1999 Interview with the Vonnegut

To quote a bathroom stall in west Patee library, "READ VONNEGUT!"
At least listen to him talk for a bit. The best quote by far is at the end, referring to a Barbara Streisand song.
What? Read it for yourself, you lazy slob!

10.6.1999 Monty Python Retrospective

Have you enjoyed the naughty bits of Monty Python?
Ever wondered what the story behind all that was?
Now you can find out. Some edifying BBC coverage.
