Behold the Brick Testament! It's the Bible -- in Lego! It's up there with Lord of the Peeps in terms of scale and, um, insanity. ^_^;

Speaking of scale and insanity, has anybody else heard anything about "Raiders of the Lost Ark: The Adaptation"? I read about it in Vanity Fair, of all places. Really inspirational obsession kind of story. (Here's one article, and here's one with a very short trailer/clip... can't find anything as detailed as the thing I read in Vanity Fair though.) I wonder if there's any way to get a hold of this movie anywhere? @_@

P.s. tet-chan: AZUMANGA~!!! *^O^* *nenekokoneneko!*

I think I might have just had the most perfect tea-cake experience this side of the Pacific. X_X

I walked into Sweet Lady Jane on Melrose Wednesday afternoon, and sat down right at the window seat. Then I got a pot of tea with lemon, and a slice of raspberry lemon cake. Everything was served on sorta Victorian-esque country kinda china, and the cake was insanely delicious and visually knocked my socks off. I don't think I've ever seen cakes more just totallypwettyperfectionOMG than the ones they have there. The lemon-raspberry one I had: fluffy pale yellow layer of cake, yellow lemon layer, cake, rapsberry layer, cake, lemon layer, cake, pale green icing on top, and the side icing was pale purple!!! X_X Check out these pikchurs: one and two... their cakes really do look like that. @_@ And did I say that it tastes delicious? Cake+lemon+raspberry=*hearts!* I normally hate icing, but whatever they used was creamy heavenlyness and not a sugar injection.

Future visitors will be dragged there, I promise. x_x

....................................................

Eeeeka and Tim had their baby earlyearly this morning!! Yay baby!!! Congratluations!! *^O^* It's weird... I knew she was pregnant, but somehow it only really hit home for me that they're REALLY HAVING A BABY when Shawna announced the arrival of Miss Naomi Raven Emrick at like 4 this morning. I hope Eeeeka recovers really soon.

And while they had their baby, I was reading ใƒ’ใ‚ซใƒซใ?ฎ็ข? (Hikaru no Go). [Some thoughts on the characters, no real spoilers. ^_^;]

I enjoyed it, a lot. I didn't like Hikaru at the beginning, but as his character matured, I grew more and more fond of him. It was interesting... I was crying at every point *he* was crying in the book. ;_; I seem to be crying easily these days. ^_^; Touya Akira I loved the moment I met him... I love that precarious balance between seriousness and passion. Am I the only one who thinks he looks exactly like Haku?? ^_^; Sai I love too. Damn, a ghost from a thousand years ago who can't give up Go, and possibly the strongest go player in history. The whole Hikaru-Touya-Sai relationship was really well done... if I had to give this series another name, it would be ไบŒไบบใ?ฎไธ‰่ง’้–ขไฟ‚. (Something like: Love Triangle Between Two People.) ^_^;

About the only thing that bothers me is that the end of the manga seems ambiguous. I wanna read more! I wanna see the two of them grow even more! There's been all sorts of rumours surrounding the ending of the series, but it seems the writer's done. -_-; Anyway, I'm checking out some of the anime... just watching the parts I really enjoyed in the manga. The quality of animation has been spectacular so far. I might pick out more episodes to watch. *^-^*

....................................................

Am currently into ใƒžใƒชใ‚ขๆง˜ใŒใฟใฆใ‚‹ (Maria-sama ga Miteru/The Virgin Mary is Watching Over You), and ใƒ†ใƒ‹ใ‚นใฎ็Ž‹ๅญๆง˜ใ€€(Tenisu no Ouji-sama/Prince of Tennis). ^_^; Thank you BitTorrent.

In terms of TeniPuri, I love the characters but I think the plot isn't developed well enough? Maybe Ryoma's just too damned good to begin with, there's nowhere for him to go. I mean I still like him a lot, but I just feel that his story seems a thin. Btw: Has anyone noticed that he bears a *striking* resemblance to hyde sometimes. Case in point: chapter title illustration of Genius48, pg 109 of manga vol 6. ^_^; All the other Seigaku regulars are great... If ๆฒ–็”ฐ็ทๅธใ€€(Okita Souji) reincarnated as a Japanese Junior High kid and picked up a tennis racket, he'd be ไธไบŒๅ‘จๅŠฉใ€€(Fuji Shuusuke). Seriously though, he does not look like he's in Junior High. He looks about 28, not 15-16. ^_^;; That, and it just occurred to me that one of his favourite shots, a reverse spin drop shot, is called "Zero Shiki." Coincidence? You decide! ^_^; The anime isn't as good as the manga... the rhythm of the panels work better than the anime for me. Also, what the hell is up with the Yonex product placement?? @_@ I dunno if anyone else is bothered by this, but the Seigaku uniforms in the anime all have Yonex logos on them! And the "F" logos on Ryoma's Fila items all turned into "R"s. -_-; (I think it's fun that the author has designated the brand/model of the stuff people use. Tezuka uses all Mizuno. ใƒ•ใƒ•ใƒ•ใ€ไผผๅˆใ„ใใ†ใ€‚ *^o^*) I dunno, I always associated Yonex with badminton, for some reason. ^_^;; K-chan tells me that people have been slashing people in this series every which way, but I can't really see any real slash fodder... I mean people form bonds, but somehow slash isn't happening in my head. But I will allow for TezukaXRyoma. U fu fu fu fu~

MariMite is sweet... and interesting... and moving... and totally slashtastic. In *this* series, the slash is all in there. ^_^; I might need to get the novels at some point. I will say no more. ^_^;

I seem to have bad apartment-water karma. My kitchen faucet is apparently broken. It's been slowly leaking and I've been turning off the kitchen water main whenever I'm not using it. My bath tub drain is also apparently clogged. It's always been a little slow on draining, but this weekend it threw up slightly. ^_^;;;

I guess at least this time, neither are on the Flooding-Emergency scale of things. ^_^; The apartment repair guy is working on it for me right now. *hearts*

My L'Arc singles are finally here. (So fear not, Miss canis_m. All's right with the world once more. :P) READY STEADY GO is fun, and I don't have enough *hearts* to throw at Hitomi no Jyuunin --- it's a rocking single! The song's pretty (in my head, it goes *kirakira*), and the single's also got tracks of ken, tetsu and yukihiro singing READY STEADY GO! *^O^* O ho ho ho ho~!! Also, the insert confirmed my suspicion that Mika Ninagawa did the cover photos. I have a photo book of her's and I really like her saturated color palette.

While waiting for the CDs, I've managed trips to LACMA to see the Diane Arbus exhibit and the Pacific Design Center to see the Annie Leibowitz one. I've seen most of the Diane Arbus images before in books/slides etc., and the the real prints are obviously better, but what was much more interesting were actually her letters and notes and such in relation to her work and her person. I respect Diane Arbus for her work... it's not the style I myself gravitate towards, but I think her images can be grotesque and beautiful and powerful. (On the issue of whether her work might be explotative of her subjects, I tend to believe that it was generated from empathy and not exploitation... ) I might need to go again to read/copy down some of excepts... or buy the book, but I don't actually want the book itself with all the images, I just want the text. ^_^; If Diane Arbus makes usual things seems strange, then Annie Leibowitz seems to go the other way --- people look bigger, they almost look more than they can be. It's a guilty pleasure looking at her stuff... she's one of the top commercial portraitists there is right now, and some of the images can be very, well, commercial. I dunno, as a student, it's almost uncool to like anything like that. That and the rumors of the photographer not being the nicest person to work with. ^_^; But I do like a lot of her work. I like the overwhelming elegance, and her composition is always impeccable, like history paintings. (Speaking of paintings, am in love with John Singer Sargent right now. If I can shoot portraits like he paints them, I'll be so set. x_x)

On the cooking front, have managed pan seared salmon, and am in search of pasteurized eggs to make semi-freddo. ^_^;

Also have finally caved and am getting DSL. This it-takes-3-days-to-download-an-ep-of-12-Kokki crap has to stop. -_-;

Asked Asako-chan over for dinner last night, and made a fried rice dish baked with onions, tomatoes, chicken in a tomato based sauce on top, and also apple crumble a la mode. Again. ^_^; Her reaction: Onna no ko datta ne. (So you really *are* a girl. ^_^;;) My reaction: Yoku kitekureta. ^_^; (Approx.: You are brave to have come.) Have also figured out the way to cook gyoza so it's cooked on the inside and crispy on the outside. *hearts*

Need to move on to other recipes now. :P

Had coffee with Claire today, then picked up a gift box at Xin and then went to Booksoup. First time I've been there early enough to get to their discount annex (it closes at 8pm, while the main store closes at 11pm) and I did manage to pick up some nice stuff on sale.

In other news, just busted a gut staring at the new top page at Warau Taiyou Utau Tsuki. Aaaaaaaaaaaaa~~!! *>o<* Special K: check out the fan throwing manga, and well, the rest of her manga really. You'd enjoy Taiki no Itazura. :P And that 12 Kokki no 20 Dai... have you thought about trying that out yourself?? *>o<*

*hearts* to Adriana and David for throwing that fancy Oscars soiree. *^o^* Yay RotK!! O ho ho ho ho~!!!

Dunno why, but as I was driving home down 134, listening to Jpop from something like 1994? I got whacked in the head by wanderlust. Wanted just to keep driving off somewhere, anywhere. Maybe it's the night and the lights and the road, or having just hung out with some people I *hearts*. But at nearly midnight, the only place I know that would still be open is Mel's Drive-In on Sunset, and I didn't feel like having American food. That or In-N-Out for a milkshake, and I've just had way too much sugar at A&D's. :P

The Momo-chan is back in the bitter cold of Michigan. Seriously, wtf? There were spatters of sun when we were driving to LAX, but it's been storming all week's she's here. -_-;

My eyes are starting to hurt from staying up way too late reading 12 Kokki. Am 3/4 way through Tasogare no Kishi Akatsuki no Sora. Just met Hanou and Hanrin. What are they, the Fab 2 of the 12 Kokki World? Watch Hanou makeover the building he stays in in Kei! And watch Hanrin point out the lack of style of this episode's straight guy, Shouryuu! Bad taste kills! ^_^; Also want to *nadenade* Risai. It sucks to be her. *shiku* ;_;

Went to Disneyland with the sis. Weird. Never been there in the winter before. ^_^; The weather/temperature threw me, cos this is so different from what I've come to associate with Disneyland in my head. Also, the park closes at 8pm, and there were no fireworks (yes on the parade though). Aside from the weirdness and the cold though, lines were wicked short! *hearts!*

Listened to a compilation Jpop CD from the early '90s on our way down. One song from the CD triggered me to dig for my other '93 compilation when we got home, and now she wants that burnt while I ripped her Fukuyama Masaharu ballad collection, which had It's Only Love, and I haven't heard that in probably 10 years. 10 years! Dude, it's been 10 years! since Erotica Seven! And Natsu ga Kuru!

... I think I need to lie down. @_@

(Also: when I stuck my '93 SM compilation in and did a track list search on iTunes, the right thing actually came up!! @_@ Shinjiraren.)

Dude, Krispy Kreme doughnuts really *are* that good. @_@"

I was watching my Sex and the City Season 5 DVDs late last night, and Miranda was having a glazed doughnut. I thought, hmm, I've heard about Krispy Kreme doughnuts for literally years now and never tried one. I think I shall. So I looked up the nearest actual KK store (vs. grocery stores that sell KK), which is conveniently located near Ikea in Burbank. Since I had to exchange a pot I bought at Ikea anyway, I drove over to Burbank for a new pot and a doughnut today.

The store is cute, and right behind the counter is the whole conveyor belt thing with a parade of freshly-made-Platonic-ideal-made-flesh-perfection-in-rows they call Krispy Kreme glazed doughnuts. I can just stare at the production line for ages, it's so mesmerizing. They just pick the doughnuts off as they roll along and hand them to you. People in front of me were buying them by the dozen, but I just bought one.

OMG IT WAS SO GOOD AAAAAAAAAAAAA. @_@ And I don't even like doughnuts that much to begin with.

It was fresh and warm, and the glaze was light and crispy, while the dough was lighter than air. I don't know if their other doughnuts are as good, but seriously, if you haven't tried a fresh glazed one, DO. @_@

In other news, I made way too big a pot of miso soup today. I drank a big bowl, and then stuck the rest in the fridge. Somebody please come help me finish it. ^_^; Also, ButterxGarlicxOnionsxMushrooms=Smells awesome and tastes wonderful. (Am I obsessed about food since trying to cook my own meals? No, not at all, nope. ^_^;)

PMK #4 is out, as is the Ryouma Edition of Blade, with it's 8-page-trailer-of-DOOM!!! -_-; I ph34red them so much it took me all night before finally picking them up and reading them. ...At this rate, I don't know how the hell I'm gonna be able to get myself through the rest of the series. Cos it's all death! and destruction! from here. Maybe I should have left that preview in Blade alone. wththssrfckdprh. -_-;;

In other news, thanks to Bunny-chan, I am up to speed with HUNTERXHUNTER and One Piece through scanlations. (AAARRRGGGHH!! I have fallen! I'm reading scanlations!! x_x) But at least I've found a good chinese scanlations site, whose trans is much more tolerable than the english stuff. ^_^; So perhaps I can hold off shelling out money for Jump every week. :P

Again.

Gah.

(Well, at least I have 2 series to follow, so it's not like I'm a complete dork like I am with buying Cookie and only reading Nana out of that phonebook of a magazine. x_x)

Also: Thnx to one Miss canis_m who suffered my over the phone scream fest triggered by the above. *peko*

Why? Why the Imperial System??

I was trying to make angel hair pasta tonight, and heaven forbid I read the directions on the box. It says to boil 3 quarts of water to make half the package. Okay, so I whip out my Pyrex measuring thing, and where the frag are the measurements for quarts?? I've got ml, pints, cups, oz. WtF??

I got used to using inches for measurements, I'll even allow that sometimes it's easier to use than cm cos the measuring unit is longer (cm's better for precision), but this 5 Fl oz= 1 gi, 4 gi=1 pint, 2 pints=1 quart thing has got to stop!! x_x The increments between units don't even make sense! x_x I know you're trying to do a fraction thing here, but if so, the names of the units? (4 quarts=1 gallon I can dig, but the rest...)

Aiyaah. -_-;

Happy Lunar Chinese New Year to everybody!

Spent an exhausting day working two shifts, i.e. going with my mom in the morning/afternoon and my dad in the afternoon/evening to do the new year's greeting thing at various family friends/relatives' homes. (If I have to explain what the hell I'm going to do with a BFA degree one more time, I think I'll have to scream. x_x)

Just got home now. Think will *pajtt* extensively. Mwa.

....................................................

I interupt my *lalala* break from it all to say:

WHAT??? WHAAAAT?? Katori Shingo is starring as Kondou-san in the soon to be broadcasted NHK Taiga Drama "Shinsengumi!"???? @_@ I mean, I saw him dressed up in Shinsengumi taifuku on the covers of several weekly Japanese TV mags, but I didn't know that he was gonna play Kondou-san till 5 seconds ago..... aaaaaaaaaaaahhhh..... @_@

... in the mean time, neither Sogo nor Mitsukoshi has ”R‚ฆ‚ๆŒ• or V‘I‘gŒŒ•—˜^ in stock, though there seems to be no shortage of other Shinsengumi novels. -_-;

Also: Am still playing Final Fantasy Tactics. If you have a ninja (shinobi! shinobi!) in your party, he/she can wield crap like kunai or a katana. For a mere 90000 gil, you can buy your very own Œี“O! And! For a mere 101000 gil, you too can make a chimatsuri of Ivalice with ‹eˆ๊•ถŽš!

Believe me, I'm saving up.

I'm alive. ^_^; Managed to survive the Wedding of the Century intact. Started to write up an entry, but my eyes glazed over sorta quarter way thru. (You know how sometimes it's exhausting to relate something after you've just lived thru it?) Maybe I'll finish it later.

Anyhoo. Relaxing, reading manga, watching Sex and the City and South Park, playing Final Fantasy Tactics on my new GBA (MWAHAHAHAHA~). So all's right with the world.

And a very belated Happy New Year to everybody. ^_^;;;

Week 12 of 14
I will be dead to the world
Mad rush to the end

05:51 p.m. Thursday, November 20, 2003

....................................................

It stormed here yesterday. In a freaky clear sunset to the west with warm sunlight streaming onto the trees everywhere, and thunder and lightning to the east with a rainbow on a dark slate gray sky, and torrential rain in the middle. It's like somebody fried a circuit board upstairs or something. It's overpowering daylight without a strobe kit!

In other news: MAC! And Eddie! Together at last!!! (Well, he's been using MAC, but they've never come out with a lip color before. :P) I'm so getting me some of that. Mwa.

....................................................

*yawn* Finally got to sleep in today, after staying up too late and getting up too early to finish my portfolio for review. (The instructor whose class it is this morning cancelled to be on the review panel.) Now, a mad dash! To the end! x_x Can't friggin believe it's Week 10 (of 14).

Went to my friend Noel's place to check out her wardrobe last night (she's posing for me this weekend) and put together some outfits... and found out that she and her brother are JRock fans!!! @_@ Mwaaaa!!! Was so totally thrilled. They're gonna burn me some Buck Tick etc. soon, and I'll bring Laruku and GLAY DVDs. And Moonchild. Was psyched enough to want to watch it when I got home, but ended up falling asleep on the couch. ^_^;

And finally, the reason why Remus and I wouldn't work.

But I'm a sleep deprived dork without a stretch of 3 hours straight to watch and obsess over it, and nobody to scream with. -_-; I might just wait till Thanksgiving break to watch it. Have fun with your snuff! They care cute beyond compare. ^_- And you saw Linda! I should really write her. ^_^; Bunny-chan: did you survive and get drunk? And I owe Kicchan mail. Crap. -_-;

....................................................

I'm not dead, really I'm not. ^_^;

Staying up making some digital prints... Scholarship portfolios are due on Tuesday, and this past week has been a mad dash to put something together for that. Spent all yesterday printing in the color lab and doing drum scanning. *tiredness*

Went to the Getty this afternoon for a class field trip (my portraiture art history class). Like live music, there's nothing like standing in front of the original painting or looking at a real print. The Julia Margaret Cameron show was as expected... much as I enjoy some of the aesthetic qualities and sensibility of the images, my mind is wrestling with the use of archetypes and the victorian-pre-raphealite-pictorialist thing. Cos it can get really hokey. So I had a brain spasm, like I thought I would, loving it and hating it at the same time. We also saw the head/portrait drawings exhibit, which was cool. But it was the Houdon that blew me away. You know how sculptures or busts can look really derivative and, well, just cheesy sometimes? Houdon is the real thing. The virtuosity of the man, my God. I can stare at the curve of the neck, the tendrils of hair and folds of fabric for ages (the silk! the satin! the friggin' lace!). The eyes are rendered really well too... none of this vacant stare crap. Houdon sculpts into the eye so the pupils etc are in relief. There are even spectral highlights carved in. (Softbox reflection in the eye!) I have a special place in my heart for good marble sculptures (e.g. Cupid and Psyche), and this exhibit was total decadence (there were bronze, plaster stuff, but mostly they were marble). I felt completely intoxicated walking out of it. Too bad they don't have pictures of the really nice ones on the Getty site... but even the pictures they do have do the real thing no justice. I've been looking at flat art for too long, I think. ^_^;

In all, it's been fun picking all the forms of portraiture apart, who they do and why, what signifiers they stick in, choices in representation... we'll see how the next few weeks of the class pans out.

....................................................

HA HA... HA HA HA HA HAAA~!!!

(Thanks to Adriana for that piece of news. I haven't had cause to point at the screen and laugh in a while. ^_^;)

In other news, it's raining in LA. Which is a good thing, given the fires and all. The temperature also plummeted, and suddenly, it's time for my winter wardrobe. ^_^; School's going all right. Ripping my hair out, but hey, what's new? ^_^;

Right, and acknowledgements and thanks to MC Hawking and hj2 for inspiration for my new blog title thing. ^_^;;

....................................................

Survived my midterms this week, sorta. In the usual fall-trip-roll down the stairs kind of way, along with all the cuts and bruises and broken limbs. ^_^;

After that, I hung out with Pam, Adriana, David and Walker at the Hard Rock Cafe at Universal Citywalk. And it left us all wondering why we don't do it more often. ^_^;;;

Went back home and crashed till noon the next day. Woke up and felt very strange, cos the light coming through the window was a very distinct shade of orange. First I thought that maybe I've slept till the evening, but I confirmed my watch and my computer and my cell phone that it was in fact noonish. The sleep haze started to break and I figured out that the light was way too orange for it to be evening... Turned on the news and found out, well, it's that time of the year again. Forest fires all around LA, and the smoke and stuff in the air is making the sun look sunkist orange. -_-;;;

That's fall in LA for ya. 80-90 degree weather, but with that toasty literally forest on fire glowing fall colors feeling in the air. -_-;

....................................................

It's been a crazy week. First, there was a housewarming party at one of my friend's apartment over the weekend, consisting mostly of photo majors. It was fun, and not unrelated to the person:camera ratio. There were generally 20-25 people floating around at any given time, and there were 3-4 Polaroid cameras plus every other person had a snapshot camera on them. People were happily snapping away every way you turn. I think there's something very freeing about snapshots for us. ^_^;

Second, went to the Viper Room for research purposes. :P We were assigned music venues to check out for concepts related to the culture, atmosphere and music of that venue. I've never been there, and then realized that I pass it all the time when I go to Booksoup. I've even parked right in front of the door to the club once, without knowing what the heck it was. -_-; Thanks to Asako who went with me on Monday night, and for wandering and laughing through the Hustler shop with me on our way back to the car while she's drunk on tequila shots. ^_^; Third, *INCREDIBLE INSANE BLINKING SHOUTOUT* to hj2!!!! For being there in San Jose with me and being the model of patience and hospitality. Your floor was mighty cozy. And thanks for showing me around the Land of Hermit Thrushes and Monarch Butterflies. That was some rocking morning. I hope you get more sleep tonight. (Sorry!!) ^_^;;;

... In other news, midterms are next week. Crap.

Adriana and David broke my brain this weekend (check out their music, btw. I recommend the song "Ache"). I dedicate the following to the hjs 1 and 2, cos, well, it suits them. ^_^;

Behold: MC Hawking!!!! @_@ They've taken down the MP3s on that site cos of bandwidth issues, but you can find them over here. I especially recommend E=mc Hawking and F*** the Creationists.

Break your brain! Come break your brain with me! *^O^*

[Edit: I just tried the MP3 link, and the site seems to be having issues this morning. I'll post another link if I can find one. -_-;]

[Edit again: It seems like they've put the MP3z back on the site. Go here! Go now! *^O^*]

Holy crap! In case you guys don't read Rabi-chan's blog, Watase Yuu is writing more FushiYuu!! @_@

I guess you can call it a prequel... It's called Fushigi Yuugi Genbu Kaiden. Some site already has scans up. ^_^;

In other news, I'm still alive... -_-; Week 2 and I killed myself on an assignment. I need more sleep. *mwaa*

....................................................

Nyaa~ I'm in the Yahoo Cafe in Terminal 2 of Narita again. Waiting for my connection to LA. Starting class on Monday. Yaaaaa~ Flaming Fourth Term of Death, here I come!

Home was fine, on the whole. It went between good-god-somebody-kill-me and this-it-quite-nice, so nothing's amiss, I guess. I think being there for only 2 weeks and having to run between 2 apartments was a big part of it. -_-; Thanks to kesh and hj2 for asking about the typhoon. It didn't make it to 10, but signal 9 was hoisted, plus the yellow rainstorm signal, so it was entertaining to say the least. Some crazy people actually *went out* to the harbour to watch the storm and feel the wind. They are mad. And I pity all the reporters who got posted outside so we can see them get drenched and whipped by the typhoon. (Oh yeah, black rain storm signals are *baaad:. -_-;;) Spent the evening at home holed up in Evie's room watching Juunikokki. I didn't finish all 39 eps (I think?) that I acquired at Sino Centre, partly cos I did't have time, but also am saving them up for jetlag fodder.

Stupid things that run through my head when I watch it:
1) Every time somebody refers to Youko as Sekishi, I go, "Well, not quite, but maybe if she works at it."
2) Every time somebody says Keiki's name, I go, "Keiki to keeki, docchi mo oishii ka."
3) Yah, babies in pods. Same thought about the, um, implications as Miss Canis.
More when I actually get back, I guess. ^_^;

Typhoon! Signal 8! Woohoo!

Dujuan is supoosed to be the strongest typhoon this year, and has already left a trail of wreckage in Taiwan. It's moving fast and it looks like the typhoon is going to hit Hong Kong quite squarely, which means one of two things. It'll either storm like mad, or the eye will sit over us and we'll wonder what the fuss was about. Looks like the former's more probable, at this point. Maybe we'll actually go up to a Signal 10.

There's something to be said for skills sticking to you, and that thing about learning to ride bikes.

Spent last night playing volleyball! With Kat and Vanessa and Elsa (and a bunch of people V&E are working with)! Nyan! Haven't played in a couple of years, and I can still spike. Miracle, that. ^_^; They have since calmed down a bit, but right afterwards my forearms resembled two small hams, and my fingers, sausages. Now I have muscle ache to contend with.

Put a powerpoint presentation together for my mom cos she's doing a talk for the parents of a kindergarten this evening. Nearly 2 years out of PwC, and I'm still a powerpoint goddess, woo! Wish me luck that the hookup to the projector they are providing will work with the laptop I'm bringing. -_-;

I declare myself completely smitten. *hearts!*

While others frolicked at Shoujocon, I got off the plane and zonked out for 20 hours straight.

Yup, count them. 20. X_X Haven't tried that since Exeter.

....................................................

Hey people. Sitting in the free Yahoo sponsored internet cafe in Narita, waiting for my connection to Hong Kong.

Flew ANA this time, instead of United. (I'll spare you all the drama, but there was some travel agent related mess.) Nice flight, food was all right (tsumami instead of pretzels, yes!) Also personal TV screen in economy. Watched the edited for screen size and content X2 3 times (once straight, once with the Japanese dub, and bits of it while flipping through other channels). I now need to rent X-Men and X2 (unedited for content)... might also need to check out comics. I feel an obsession coming on. ALso watched View from the Top, Drumline, and... The Dog of Flanders! x_x Yes, they show anime movies. THat was a tear jerker that left me feeling cheated and used. If you wanna know, ask. -_-; Also played way old Street Fighter 2... still remember generally how to kick butt with my girl Chun Li. :P Ate some soba at the food court... still think of Hajime when I eat soba in Japan.

More when I get home.

Stolen from Rabi-chan:

Like Subaru, you have Issues.
Like Subaru, you will lose an eye through gouging.
No one quite understands why, but it has
something to do with your massive, intense,
haunting Issues. Look, either sleep with the
guy or kill him, but enough with the suspense!

How Will You Lose YOUR Eye?
brought to you by Quizilla

It's not really a quiz that's related to reality in any way shape or form, but it made me laugh. ^_- I wish I were Muraki! *^o^* (Take the quiz and read all the results. They're hilarious. :P)

....................................................

A couple of things.

Went to see Yo-yo Ma do Brazilian music at the Hollywood Bowl. It was delish. Tomorrow: Bjork! Also at the Hollywood Bowl.

In the mean time, Bronze has ended in Margaret. It ended, and all I can say is, "WTF?????? What kind of a f-ing ending is that??"

Lameness. Lameness reigns. -_-;

P.s. Oh, right. David Beckham was in Hong Kong. Along with Ronaldo. And the rest of Real Madrid. The city did grind to a halt. Wa. ^_^;

02:56 a.m. Monday, August 11, 2003

....................................................

I can post about seeing Tori Amos and Ben Folds on Friday night at the Greek Theater. I can post about shooting my lighting assignment with Michelle up in San Francisco on Sunday.

Instead, I will bitch about my kitchen sink backing up last night and having the plumber over and spending hours drying and bleaching the sink and counters and floors, and running to Target to buy towels to try to dry my carpet ajoining the kitchen.

Fuck.

I'm at school, the box fan (from previous water related disaster, also involving friggin wet carpet) is on. A/C is also left on. Until the carpet dries, there's a trace smell of foulness. I will also need to clean it, once it's dry, since it's fucking dirty water, and not fresh water backing up (and thus the need to bleach everything in sight). I don't know whose ass to kick, the people upstairs who were probably cooking last night (and who were also responsible for previous flooding of bathroom), or the management for shitty pipes (seeing that cooking is a normal activity, unlike leaving the tap on in the bathroom).

Again, fuck.

Michael Owen! In Hong Kong!

(That's the Cheung Kong Building in the back, where I used to work, to the left of the Bank of China Building. ^_^;)

I'd like to see how the city would grind to a halt if David Beckham ever visits. :P

Been listening to Laruku to calm myself down, and remembered that they've just finished 7 days' worth of concerts in Shibuya. I went to their site for news.

....................................................

Sorry for anybody who tried to find me/wondered if I was dead.

I'd gone and run off with people to Comic Con this weekend... lotsa Neil goodness! And Dave McKean! (I was a blubbering idiot in front of Dave. Gah. You know those conversations, the ones where afterwards, you just smack yourself in the head and replay all day thinking how it could have gone better? That's one of them. -_-;) And friggin' tired. The drive down was hell (suffice to say that a theoretically 2 hour drive took more like 5), and at a con, of course you never get enough sleep! (I do not regret that one bit. Had fun, though am zombie-like and subdued. ^_^;)

Now to face all the work staring at me here. Neglected. Forlorn. Undone.

... I just finished the book. It's 4am, and I started around lunch.

I feel numb. Why are the people I want to talk to no where within reach?

....................................................

As part of my Contemporary Photo (art history) class, I had to go to see some gallery exhibitions. It included this one by John Divola at the Patricia Faure Gallery.

(I refer you to his artist statement for an explanation of what he's doing in terms of art. Me, I died when I saw the pencils. ^_^;)

05:45 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2003

....................................................

It's 4am, and I'm still up. The *&^% upstairs left the water running earlier, and it dripped into my bathroom/edge of my bedroom, so I've been doing damage control and calling the maintenance people (who found out that it was the #$%@ upstairs.). Then I watched more Sex and the City [commentary on]. (Did I mention that I have SatC fever right now, cos the DVD set for Season Four just came out and I watched them all again?) Anyway, checked my email and found out, Rabi-chan's put up scans for TSUBASA RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE . What do I do? I read them instead of going to bed.

What is this, mad cross over world, or humongous ad for everything they've ever written??? x_x

Gyaaaa~~!! @_@

3rd Term is kicking my ass. x_x (More specifically, Thursdays from 9am to 10pm is kicking my ass.)

Anyway:

What Is Your X Japan Ballad?

I guess we have reached critical mass. ^_^;;;

After ~3 years, thanks to Chiharu-chan, I finally have the 10 percent of monologue in the middle of Niji that kept escaping me. ^_^;

Kioku no tenbin ni kaketa
Hitotsu no kizu wo tsuriau ni wa
Hyaku no ai wo yousuru

Keredo
Kokoro wa kaigan no ishi no you ni
Nami ni nomare
Takusan no kizu wo eru koto ni naru

Ai wa keiseisarete yuku

To balance one wound
Weighed on the scales of memory,
A hundred loves are needed

But
Our hearts are like stones on the seashore
Swallowed by the waves
It turns out that they acquire countless wounds

While love is formed

Nyaa~ These 2 weeks have gone mightily fast. ^_^;

Was in NYC, staying with Kat. It was a very nice trip... aside from all my usual attractions [shopping and museums], Kat took me to all her favourite restaurants, and we just ate our way through New York. It's like Heimlich's Choo-Choo Train~! (It's a ride at Disney's California Adventure. ^_^;) Except it's me chewing my way through NYC. Highlights include: Cherry Jamboree and cute pastel cupcakes at the Magnolia Bakery, insanely huge ice-cream desserts at Serendipity, Korean barbeque, scallops at a French restaurant, strawberry cream cake at the Italian Tomato (Japanese cafe), crepes in East Village, berry tart at Lalo's... *hearts!*

Met up with tet-chan and Bunny-chan. *^O^* Yeah, next time we find a place and just sit there! ^_- It's funny... when we're at a loss for places to go, we always gravitate towards the nearest place with the highest concentration of manga. ^_^; Bunny-chan: I've read everything. It's so funny~~~!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAA~!!!!!! I've gotten K-chan to read Azumanga Daiou when she was here and I've lent her the pastry shop thing. ^_- U fu fu fu~!! I love Sakaki-san and Chiyo-chan! *^o^* And I think Ono should end up with Chikage, but that's just me. :P I've also bought the first 2 novels of Juunikokki. ^_-

Then K-chan graced me with her presence for about 4 days. *^o^* During which, we: went to Little Tokyo thrice, hit Kino and Asahiya, ate ramen and sushi, sang karaoke (with Asako and Chiharu *^o^*), went to Hollywood and watched Neko no Ongaeshi at the Egyptian Theatre, went to Caltech and watched the Capitol Steps, sat at home and read too much manga and she made me watch .hack//SIGN, and went on the Warner Brothers Studio tour and was lucky enough to get onto the (inside and outside) set of ER, Friends and some other stuff.The guide was very nice and went the extra mile to get us access to the inside sound stage set of ER, and we're so grateful. ^_- Like I said, next time we watch ER, we can say "We were so *THERE*~!!" *^O^* Too bad the West Wing was still filming, or.... u fu fu fu. Perhaps another time. *^o^*

Much love and flying *hearts!* to all of you who've been more than plain wonderful and SatC fabulous. ^_- One more week of break and then, Third Term. ^_^;
