Sun 1/29 - AM 40 minutes real slow in the vicinity of Fresh Pond. Barely moving, got bored, cut the run short and ate breakfast. Long day yesterday with track practice, run and then standing around at the BIG track meet. Felt it in the tiredness this morning. PM 5m in 35 minutes on the treadmill. Speeds between 7.1 and 9.7 mph. Moving well near the end, toyed with the idea of doing another mile while continuing to jack up the speed every minute but decided discretion would be the better part of valor. Weather turned to absolute shit in the afternoon, cold hard rain. No brainer to stay inside.
Sat 1/28 - PM 85 minutes, from Coolidge Corner to the river path near Arsenal Mall and then on to the Mass Ave bridge and back. Stopped off at the BU track on the way in to watch a few heats of the women's mile. Moving quite slowly the first half of the run, picked it up some but not much after that. Much warmer today than yesterday.
Fri 1/27 - PM 5k Terrier Classic, aka my personal olympics, in 14:54.7. Set up perfectly for my leech-centered tactics, spent 24.75 laps following people and casting them off when they slowed down. Went through 4800m in 14:23 and closed in 31. Pace was right around 36 straight through although it did slow down from 3200 to 4k, at which point I latched on to a kid with the same notion as me, to increase the pace. Successive 400s of 71 and 69 brought things back in line before the final lap. Felt under control the entire way, with hindsight I may have been capable of marginally faster pace but having others do the work made the strong finish possible. The strung-out feeling all week had me a bit paranoid as well, but the near-manic state also helped in focusing energy on the task at hand. Warmup somewhat curtailed due to later arrival at the facility than I would like. Standby PBJB sandwich not quite digested enough by racetime, difficult to adjust my weekday routine to the early afternoon start time. Longish cooldown in Brookline incl. Summit Ave.
Thu 1/26 - PM 20 minutes, RLTAC warmup loop. No time to run any more than this due to yet another GD kiddies' meet, and it left me in quite the foul mood. That combined with being tired yet again from another long day yesterday, had the tired headache at work and took a brief nap at lunchtime as a result. Plan for tomorrow's race has come together in my mind, should go well but the lack of rest remains a worry. Expectations somewhat more modest than what I might have had two weeks ago, but c'est la vie. Very windy and colder today.
Wed 1/25 - PM 35 minutes, downtown Boston from the Garden to RLTAC. Took a mostly direct route south. Legs feeling better than expected, but yesterday's workout wasn't that strenuous. Still not sleeping enough, feeling it in the late afternoon.
Tue 1/24 - PM RLTAC 10x300 with avg. 75 seconds recovery. Started at 53, got down to low 50s by #8, then last two were 49 and 48. Able to increase the effort without getting ahead of myself. Late afternoon tiredness hit hard, didn't think I'd be worth anything for the workout but legs were more spry than expected. Cooldown jog was a crawl, used up whatever was in the tank. All the long days lately have left me completely wired.

Mon 1/23 - PM 40 minutes, twice around Fresh Pond. White hell returned today, snow followed by rain leaving everything a complete mess. Slush everywhere, roads dangerous in most cases, as a result the reservoir path became the only palatable option. As expected, feeling a bit flat after yesterday's long day and race. Not really flowing along but not a struggle either.
