Sun 11/27 - PM 105 minutes, Parker Street to Indian Village, back via Mt. Hope and White Pond Road. Snow is slow to leave the trails, legs fried from yesterday so as a result stayed entirely on roads except for the brief section in Mt. Hope which left my legs rubbery. Started pushing the pace the last hour, probably too much. Finished up feeling wiped out, vaguely febrile afterwards. Gloomy overcast day.
Sat 11/26 - PM 6 mile "talking turkey" race in Holyoke, 31:15. Last year I ran this thing 30 seconds faster, so something still seems rotten in Denmark. Much worse conditions of footing with hard packed snow covering most of the course. Brought my spikes along and got traction enough, but still some slippery spots. I assumed the snow and ice would slow people down, they didn't. Two guys I beat at this thing last year beat me handily and ran faster times to boot, thus keeping me out of the money. Hit the mile in 5:00, faster than last year, and yet stuck in 6th place and wondering what the hell was going on. In fact, passed one person the entire race, with two others in contact until just after 4 miles. Dropped like a stone the last two miles, which went in 10:45. Those last two miles alone account for the difference in overall time from last year to this. As if the effort of racing on the ice suddenly got to me. Until then, it felt like a solid effort, but when it came time to really dig deep there was nothing there. Conditions didn't favor a strained muscle, but I didn't notice any problems there. Shortened warmup certainly no help, got there too late to do more than 15 minutes and some strides. Longish cooldown of 3+ miles. Hard to shake the feeling that I'm underrested, not overtrained.
Fri 11/25 - AM 40 minutes, Area 51. Clear, cold, obnoxious wind chill. Left the overgloves at home and paid the price for it, fingers freezing for hours afterwards. As expected, snow has been packed down on most roads into a hockey rink. At least on the trails it's still unpacked. Right leg about where it was yesterday, a lot better than Wednesday. PM 45 minutes on Longfellow loop, 6 pickups on the way home. Legs felt much more spry overall than in the AM, right one tightened up some on the strides. Nice back end to the double. Cold conditions continue, thankfully the wind subsided.
Thu 11/24 - AM 65 minutes, Area 51. Puttering through a wind-driven snowstorm. Broke out the screw shoes for the first time this season, it may be a long one. Despite the less-than-ideal footing, right leg feeling much better than it did on yesterday's run, all that poking and prodding had some beneficial effect. PM 35 minutes, Lincoln woods. Some slippery footing, noticeably less snow here than in Maynard. Moving as well as can be expected for the conditions.
Wed 11/23 - PM 85 minutes, Track Road to Sudbury Road and back through Area 51. Three days off was enough, despite continued soreness in right thigh, antsy to run again. Dragging right leg at times, twinging mainly on the lateral aspect. Responced well to stretching and some hands-on work afterwards. Cold, still conditions, snow coming tomorrow.
Tue 11/22 - off. Still working on the leg, still no motivation. Sleeping better after the disruptions of the weekend to that routine.

Mon 11/21 - off. Spent some quality time working on all the stuck and sore areas of the right adductor/hip flexor/ITB mess. Motivation to train is zero.
