Sun 8/27 - AM 60 minutes mostly quite slow. After a slugabed morning and a late start, went quite easy. Planned on an afternoon run to round things out, but by late afternoon I was feeling far too tired for such things. Feeling yesterday's effort. Quite cool for this time of year, nice for running.

Sat 8/26 - Exeter road races, 5k in 15:43 followed 25 minutes later by a 10k in 34:11. Won the 5k and secured the final money spot in the 10k, it wasn't necessarily easy but it didn't kill me either and that's a positive sign that the fog is finally lifting. Perhaps an altitude bounce as well. Put all my eggs in the 5k basket, took the lead and made a conscious effort to keep the pressure on so as not to lose it. Not worrying at all about whether I'd have anything left for the 10k later. I was able to keep second place at bay, but not without pressing the pace until less than 100m to go, and the 10k was looking like a potential tempo run or glorified cooldown. As it turned out, found myself in a battle for the last money spot at a pace that I could handle. Broke the competition on the only hill halfway through and spent the rest of the race surging on every blind corner to ensure he wouldn't catch me. Much better results time-wise than what I did at these races either of the last two years. Weather was good, cool for the 5k and a bit warmer for the 10k later on but not hot, with something of a breeze. Short, slow warmup and cooldown, back stiff after it was all done but manageable. PM 35 minutes superslow around Concord center, passing Author's Ridge and the Old North Bridge. Very stiff, back sore, looking to do a shakeout and then some hurdle walkovers but I could tell that wasn't happening. Took a couple of long breaks. A glorified stroll.

Fri 8/25 - PM 70+ minutes in Lincoln woods. Six strides in the parking lot at the end, first few felt quite awkward but better after that. Feeling better than either of the last two days, after a slowish start to the run. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come. Lower back still tight and sore but not as bad as yesterday evening. Cool overcast conditions. Tomorrow should be interesting.

Thu 8/24 - PM 105 minutes, Pratt's Brook to Great Hill, over to Mt. Hope and then White Pond Road and Track road to finish. Not hauling but not crawling along either, although I could feel yesterday's attempted effort which kept me from trying to bring down the pace. Hit as many hills as possible while in Great Hill. Right leg swollen, more in the adductor and butt now than in the TFL although that got sore towards the end as well. This resulted in me favoring my right side which caused my right lower back to get tight as well. Overall legs could be feeling better, but they have been worse recently. Downright cool for this time of year. Happy birthday to me.

Wed 8/23 - PM 55 minutes easy in GMNWR, followed by 8x200 with 100 float on the track in 8:15. 30 minute cooldown crawl. Planned on doing 17x200 with 100 rest but it simply wasn't happening. As it was all I could do for the 200s was 37 or so and the 8th one was 39 and I knew I was done. No energy or life in me for this kind of effort and it's totally due to lack of sleep. Deep in the throes of a disordered insomniac sleep pattern, as bad as it's been in the past six months. The CNS is crying for mercy right now, the cooldown today was as slow and tiring as any bit of running I've done this summer. Right leg could have felt better, had a knot in high adductor which I was able to work on by sitting on it after the 200s were over.

Tue 8/22 - PM 95 minutes in Walden woods. Happily, yesterday's day off had the desired effect on my legs as there was much more life in them today. Not straining at any point, not really moving it either. Right hip sore more in the hamstring/adductor than TFL, likely from the work I did on the area last night. Less swelling in there. Some tightness developed in lower back as compensation, like a stitch almost. Did hurdle walkovers after the run, left the flexors feeling tired but not desperately so. Still feeling tired overall because of not sleeping enough. Another warm, sunny but not overly humid day, typical of what the last two weeks have been.

Mon 8/21 - off. Got about five minutes down the road before realizing it was counterproductive to be running today. No regrets at all. Combination of another insomniac Sunday night and continued right TFL/IT band woes left my motivation at nil. Continued soreness in right thigh is worrisome, if it gets much worse I may cross into injury territory. I did find a good spot for direct pressure that will hopefully help alleviate some of the incessant twinging, swelling in the joint is of course another matter entirely.
