Sun 5/27 - 60 minutes flopping around in Walden. Struck a blow for doing something rather than nothing. The water was not especially warm, but not as cold as I expected. Still not exactly comfortable. Did a little biking later on in the afternoon. The pain level in the shin is less than it was a week ago, although the mornings are still bad. On that front, I've decided it would be worthwhile to use ice. It can't make it any worse.

Mon 5/21-Sat 5/26 off. Pushed it well past the breaking point (hopefully not literally) with the left shin. I've been afflicted with shinsplints (i.e. medial tibial stress syndrome) once a decade it seems, the last time it was manageable and I thought it would be so again this time, I was wrong. First noted symptoms at the end of April, within three weeks it was painful to walk. Last week in particular it really exploded, kept aggravating it with each successive hard effort. Unable to muster up any motivation to do any cross-training, bummed out the whole week. This is not the time of year I had planned for a layoff.
