Sun 3/25 - PM 5m road race in Lowell, 26:33. First two miles, flat but into the wind, 10:10. Next two miles rolled more up than down, 11:08. Last mile all flat or down, set up for a fast finish, 5:15. Overall a step in the right direction, but things have definitely slipped since the last time I ran a 5 mile race six weeks ago. That was a cold day and I ran a faster time while taking pains to stay sub-maximal. Today was not sub-maximal, alas. Wilted after two miles, endurance needs work because the first two miles felt smooth and relaxed, after that I couldn't move. 40 minutes total on the warmup/cooldown. later PM 40 minutes very easy, MHS to Old Mill. Needed the shakeout after the race, cooldown was less than I would have liked. No problems with either TFL today.

Sat 3/24 - AM just under 70 minutes very easy in the Lincoln woods. Too tempting to pass up, although it became apparent that the trails aren't clear yet in the shady spots. Took it slow as a result of this and also generally looking to take it easy. Right TFL started acting up the second half of the run which was obnoxious. PM run to track, set of drills/strides, run home. A needed shakeout. Right hip and legs in general feeling much better afterwards.

Fri 3/23 - PM 75 minutes, Longfellow loop to Mossman. Somewhat rickety at first, but not as sore as expected. Woke up with lower left back beeling like someone hit it with a 2x4. Things loosened up during the day, left hip and leg in particular feeling better. Relaxed effort and even moving well. The only damper on the evening's proceedings was the right TFL tightening up in the last 15 minutes, felt like a repeat of what happened with the left side on Tuesday's run.

Thu 3/22 - AM just under 40 minutes, Parker St. to Conant Rd. via Silver Hill. Moving quite slowly, even for the morning hour. Legs stiff and overall tired. Left hip, IT, anterior tib continue to be tight. Forgot to bring paper, not a good move. Gusty winds this morning. PM 50+ minutes, incl. 3x springing up the Thompson St. hill. Left leg tight and sore to start, feeling the blahs but soldiered through. Much warmer today but still windy.

Wed 3/21 - PM 25+ minutes RLTAC to the Garden. left hip stiff, swollen and sore during the day, esp. after being seated for long periods of time. Tightness over trochanter and pain referred all the way down the outside of my leg, caused by a stuck area just below iliac crest. Loosened up after a few minutes, but the running went slowly. later PM - 30+ minutes, Garden to RLTAC. Legs not as stiff on the return trip.

Tue 3/20 - 90 minutes very easy, grand tour of Levittown to Summerhill and on to the near part of the Longfellow Loop. Went a bit further than expected, partly due to the slow pace throughout, resulting in taking longer to get from one end of the route to the other. As expected, legs were stiff, not expected was the left TFL/IT band/anterior tib tightening up quite a bit the last 15 minutes. A big knot left in the TFL area after the run. I need to work on core strength again as it's definitely lacking. Chilly afternoon/evening, very windy to start, more late winter nonsense.

Mon 3/19 - PM RLTAC 6x1200, 1R. All run within a second of 4:00, except for the fifth one which was 3:58. First four were under control, breathing harder on the last two as the fatigue accumulated. More effort than i would have liked, but still a step in the right direction and compares favorably to the 6x1000 of two weeks ago. Warmup and cooldown on the treadmill. Some soreness in legs from yesterday.
