Sun 9/24 - PM 70 minutes easy in Area 51. Woke up iwth resting pulse on the high side, not unexpectedly. As a result, I chose to put the run off until evening and make it shorter. A good move as it turned out, as it was way too warm and humid during the day. Avoided the worst of it by going at dusk. Stiff and sore to start, felt better after 30 minutes but never that great. Active recovery, which is the theme for the week upcoming.

Sat 9/23 - AM 15 minute warmup, then 8 times up the Comm Ave hill, bottom to top. Woke up late, felt sluggish and stiff warming up, muggy with rain showers, not a great combination at all. First five reps were at or just under 2:00, last three went 1:57, 1:56, 1:56. Not exactly burning it up on the recovery back down, north of 2:30 each time. At the outset I didn't think I'd get through the whole thing, weariness piled on top of weariness. Judicious use of effort, i.e. holding back and starting slower, allowed me to get through the entire thing. This also means the splits were unimpressive, just taking my lumps. If nothing else it serves as a benchmark for subsequent hill sessions which should be done at a faster speed. 25 minute very slow cooldown, overcome by exhaustion in the late afternoon.

Fri 9/22 - PM 80 minutes very easy, track road to Area 51. Feeling very weary, Friday tired for the second week in a row. Not exactly bouncing back from the longer runs during the week lately. Right IT band and TFL twinging much more than I would like, definitely inflamed. More nice weather today but the overcast worked its way in by late afternoon and the humidity went up noticeably.

thu 9/21 - PM 90 minutes or so, Walden woods. Feeling better and moving relatively well after yesterday's zero. Right IT band still tight and pinched, of course, but after the hands-on treatment the area got yesterday it was much better. 6 strides at the end of the run felt relatively good. Some tiredness, kept the pace from getting crasy. Delightfully dry and cool conditions, great day to be outside. Still unable to get in a good stretch afterwards due to bugs.

Wed 9/20 - off. Chalk it up to the continued late bedtimes, not sleeping enough or well enough and it left me cooked in the late afternoon. No motivation, just not feeling it. A shame, because the muggies finally broke and it was a crisp cool afternoon, with me in no condition to enjoy it. The planned timed repeat session goes by the boards, alas. Right TFL feels like crap after yesterday's longer run on uneven terrain. Did some work on it and found lots of knots.

Tue 9/19 - PM 100 minutes in Walden woods. Back to the grind, trying to have it not feel like a grind. Yesterday's shorter easier run left me feeling better today, still made a conscious effort to relax and take it a little bit easier the first hour. Trying to avoid the wilting that's been happening on the tail end of these length runs lately. More or less successful in this regard, even able to do six strides at the end to get the legs going. Humidity continues, truly obnoxious. In July or August it would be par for the course but I'm ready for fall at this point. The clammy wet blanket sucks the energy right out of me and is most unwelcome. Took a dip in the now-bracing pond, I said the last time would be the last of the season and I was wrong. This one is likely to be it, barring any more tropical air masses.

Mon 9/18 - PM 55 minutes slow in Area 51. Feeling less than stellar, predictably. Right thigh a gummed-up mess. More humid today than over the weekend. Overall not a fun time.
