Sun 7/23 - PM 95 hard-earned minutes, from Kinlani to Buffalo Park, out the back to Oldham and polished off the entire loop this time, no out-and-back like a few days ago. Substantial climbing from about 20 to 50 minutes, then mostly back down to get back to the park although another uphill stretch thrown in nearly killed me. Legs deadened by this rollercoaster effect, working hard but under control by the end. Glycogen window was definitely open for business after the run. Slept very little last night, wired to the hilt then spent 7-3 driving to and from PHX and waiting there. Manic state continued through the mid-afternoon, run in sunny and rather hot conditions but doable.

Sat 7/22 - AM 85 minutes, Canyon Vista CG to the Toomey condo via Fisher Point and FR 301. Started slowly, quite stiff from yesterday. Gradually worked into it, by the time I hit Walnut Meadow road the pace had become a lot quicker. Maintained the higher intensity to the end, somewhat pooped. PM 45+ minutes, Walnut Meadows and Continental loop. Started on the dirt road at first, pace felt too fast for what the run was supposed to be but that's running with other people, as Sartre would say. After 15 minutes legs loosened up and moved along fine from there. The big days keep rolling along.

Fri 7/21 - AM hike up Humphreys peak, 9500' to start, up to 12600' at the summit. Quite the experience, needless to say. About a 7 mile round trip. PM 60 minutes, Walnut Meadows loop. Started superslow and gradually progressed to slow. Back and shoulders are more sore than legs, oddly enough. Threatening skies, blustery winds and rain.

Thu 7/20 - AM 30 minutes or so easy around Flagstaff HS, one of the few flat areas around town. Followed this with some soccer ball drills, first time in a looong time. Some sore spots in adductors after that nonsense. PM 65+ minutes, FHS to Buffalo Park and Lower Oldham trail and then back. Another out-and-back, gained a lot of elevation by the turnaround point. Probably ran too hard, legs got rubbery on the long descents.

Wed 7/19 - AM 40 minutes out-and-back from NAU. 22 out, 18 or so back. Stopped to drop ballast and then hauled ass back to get it over with. Felt like garbage at first, too early to be running the pace we were. PM 65 minutes out-and-back on Observatory Mesa. Every run out here is an out-and-back it seems, and the ruts on the dirt roads are enormous, but the view at the turnaround point was worth it. Net drop in elevation due to finishing in town after starting up above at the trailhead. Flying the last 15 minutes as everything from the turnaround back was flat or down.

Tue 7/18 - AM 95 minutes, NAU to Walnut Canyon road via Fisher Point. Most scenic and monumental run as yet, steadily gaining some comfort and familiarity with the altitude. Still gasping big-time on hills of course. Took a long break after an hour at the Fisher Point vista to soak in the view. Things got a little hairy after that as the temp increased and my legs got increasingly wobbly from the uneven surface of FR 301. Made a conscious effort to stretch out the effort so I would make it the whole way, nevertheless finished feeling strong. PM 35 minutes, Foxglenn trails. More hilly than I would have liked, trying to do an easy shakeout after this morning. Threw in six 20 second pickups with a 60 second recovery at the end to see what turnover feels like. Not bad, breathing hard but not dying. Legs hanging in there as volume has steadily increased since my arrival in FLG.

Mon 7/17 - AM 75 minutes out and back along the Arizona trail. Scenic route, included a dip down into and back up out of a small side canyon. Legs stiff to start but got better as the run went along. Sunny and warm like it is every morning here. PM 30 minutes Continental loop. Felt pretty good right from the get-go, ran a little bit quicker where possible (i.e. flat or downhill) as a result.
