Sun 3/19 - PM 110+ minutes in Walden woods. After sleeping a great deal of the morning, resting pulse down to a more appropriate level. Gave serious thoughts to running some ins and outs on the track today but chose to lay low instead and make it a long run instead. Right adductor held up better than expected, not feeling as locked up as Friday. Continued blustery conditions, only today the clouds rolled in to boot. As a result, never really got warm, just kept moving. Made an effort to pick up the pace the last half hour or so, finished good and tired as a result. So ends a week w/o workouts, feeling stronger for it. This is how I should have approached the last two weeks coming off the illness.

Sat 3/18 - AM 4m, 30 minutes on the treadmill. Started at 6.6 mph and steadily worked up to 9.0. Right hip/adductor feels better than yesterday evening's run but could be better. PM 30+ minutes, Levittown to Summerhill. Had a workout planned involving timed reps on the Longfellow loop but pulse was elevated after the morning's run and I felt flat and tired from the get-go anyway. Cut the length of the run short. Feeling it from the cumulative effect of the week's efforts.

Fri 3/17 - AM 30 minutes, Linden Street to Brook Path. Decided to try a different route this morning, Linden was not the greatest choice quite frankly. Clear cold and windy, again, no real end in sight. PM 60 minutes from Coolidge Corner, mostly along the Charles river. Planned track workout went by the boards as track was closed for Evacuation Day, big surprise. Not sure what I'll do tomorrow instead, if anything. Feeling a bit tired, maybe just Friday, maybe still struggling. Right adductor/hip has been locked up since last week, tightened up progressively over the course of the run which was a bummer. The area needs continued work. Aiming for a gradual pickup of the pace the last 15 minutes or so, able to do it but not to the degree that I did on Wednesday's run. Wind was predictably obnoxious, goes with the territory at this time of year.

Thu 3/16 - AM 30 minutes, Wash. St to Brook Path. Not as sore this morning as previous mornings this week. Clear and cold but not overly windy. PM 65 minutes in Lincoln woods. Very slow much of the way, big difference from yesterday's up-tempo effort. Picked up the pace moderately the last ten minutes but nothing too impressive. Slipping and stumbling more than I'd like on some sections of trail, but it still beats running on roads.

Wed 3/15 - AM 30 minutes easy in Wellesley. Got to bed a bit earlier last night, so not quite as tired this morning. Hip flexor area remains sore, didn't expect it to linger so long. Yesterday's blustery conditions continued right on to today. PM 50 minutes on the Longfellow loop. Despite feeling like garbage for much of the day at work, the run ended up being the best in a while, feels like I may have finally turned a corner on the recent blahs. Legs felt much much better than on recent runs. Took advantage of the moment and picked up the pace gradually and progressively the second half of the run, capped off with a 10 minute or so sustained effort at a truly "uncomfortably sustainable" speed which felt great. Jogged it in the last 10 minutes as a snow squall hit and weather conditions degraded rapidly, went from breezy/blustery to horizontal blowing snow in a snap.

Tue 3/14 - AM 25+ minutes, Brook Path to Abbott Road. Dragging, tired. Feeling Sunday's effort in my legs. Continued warmer and more humid conditions, but not for much longer. PM 40 minutes or so very easy in Newton. Had to bag the planned hill workout, absolutely no energy and legs still feeling like crap. I've been feeling tired all day both yesterday and today. Not sleeping enough, trying to run more than I did for the past 3 months of decreased volume, while still stuck on the late bedtime of the winter season. Frustrating to feel so flat all the time.

Mon 3/13 - AM 30 minutes very easy along Washington St. and Brook Path. Sore but not as sore as I thought I would be this morning. PM 90 minutes, to Trader Joe's for groceries and back, 50 minutes out and 40 on the way back with a shorter more adventurous route that involved crossing rt. 2 at Hosmer Street. Slow slow slow. Puttering along, legs more rickety than this morning which is not what I'd expect. I thought this run would be closer to an hour, the easy pace made it doable, a test of patience more than anything else.
