Sun 2/19 - AM USATF-NE 5k, 15:17. Mile splits of 4:48, 5:00, 5:00. A PR for racing while sick, probably shouldn't have raced at all but tempted into it because I wasn't _that_ sick. Sore and noticeably swollen throat prevented anything resembling a decent night's rest, tossed and turned for hours. Got up twice, basically decided at 5:30 in the morning I wouldn't bother with the race, but then after finally falling asleep sometime around 6, woke up at 8:30 feeling clear-headed enough that I decided to give it a try. Followed close to the lead pack for 6 laps, then got gapped and ran completely alone for 13 laps before the chase pack caught me and I had someone to run behind again. Able to regroup somewhat and hold off all but one of the chase group. I'm left wondering what could have been had I been at full health going into this race because I had it in the back of my head that I might run around 15:30 before the race started. Warmup and cooldown outside in continued punishing wind chill conditions, cooldown was very slow 30+ minutes. The schedule of late has left me completely overextended and keyed up, haven't had a good night's sleep in weeks due to bedtime being shifted far too late. Thankfully the end's in sight for neverending HS track season, how I ever did this 9 months a year and trained at the same time, I can't even begin to understand.

Sat 2/18 - PM 30+ minutes, errand run to the supermarket and back to get frozen OJ. Slept in this morning until a preposterously late hour, the accumulated long days and nagging illness had me down for the count. Had to rush just to make it out the door in time for the kiddies' meet, no time even for a decent breakfast which is highly unusual. Well past 7 by the time I got home from the meet, didn't run until 8. Felt reasonably good on the run, right adductor still somewhat stuck but not as bad as yesterday. Continued cold and windy conditions, dry as a bone. Feeling vaguely febrile after the day spent trackside. Well-rested from a training perspective for tomorrow's race, if only that.

Fri 2/17 - PM 30 minutes Levittown to Summerhill. Dragging all day at work. After a week of not sleeping enough, the dry scratchy throat made an unwelcome return. I cannot wait for the HS season to be over. Planning on doing strides at the end of the run, but right adductor being stuck made it inadvisable. Endless wind and plummeting temps during the course of the day, return to more seasonable conditions.

Thu 2/16 - AM 25 minutes very easy in Wellesley. Flex time day. Things far more hectic than I had planned thanks to the furnace shutting off overnight. Again. Moving very slowly this morning, clear still conditions. PM 25 minutes very easy again in Wellesley. Time for a second run before an extremely late kiddies' practice. As expected, not as stiff as the morning run, but still taking it easy. Very warm temps during the day today.

Wed 2/15 - PM 60 minutes, Newton South to WHS via Beacon and Washington St. Took it very easy at the outset, started to feel a little better as time wore on. Pace dropped gradually, never got especially fast. Some soreness in right PA tendon, lingering aftereffect of the running in snow Sunday and Monday.

Tue 2/14 - PM RLTAC 300 47.8 2R 800 2:17 (67,70) 5R 800 2:18 (68, 70) 3R 400 66 2R 300 47.8. Still feeling tired, even more so than on Saturday. Back half of both 800s was a death march as a result. The intensity of the effort was sufficient to scrape my nervous system raw. Thankfully, I won't be trying to sustain this kind of pace on Sunday. Very slow cooldown. Nothing but easy running from now until the weekend.

Mon 2/13 - PM 50+ minutes on the extended version of the Longfellow Loop. Felt like stretching things out just a bit. Five short pickups on the way in on Waltham Street. Legs somewhat dinged up from the race and running on snow yesterday. Left adductor sticking somewhat. Footing not perfect but could be a lot worse, was a lot worse on these same streets after the last snowstorm.
