Sun 6/17 - AM just over 80 minutes, Walden woods. Still manageable on the pain front, no better or worse than yesterday. More sore at the start, somewhat improved after a stretching break at 30 minutes. Chose a route that was the same as yesterday's over the last twenty minutes or so, including the dip in Walden which was, as ever, fantastic. Same 4 minute pickup at the end as well. Very warm and sunny, finished up at noon, and this combined with the longer duration left me somewhat beat by the end.
Sat 6/16 - PM 75+ minutes, Walden woods. Despite some continued soreness, shin appears to have reached manageable status. Ran a more uneven, hilly route today and went for longer than originally expected and it held up reasonably well. Picked up the pace significantly the last 4 minutes. Warm and sunny today. I felt it in my airways afterwards, sore wheezy feeling.
Fri 6/15 - PM just under an hour, GMNWR. Intentionally chose a flat route today with more even footing to go easy on the left shin. Felt pretty bad all day at work, but once the orthotics were underfoot I was able to run without undue discomfort. Picked it up the last 6 minutes, still feeling clunky and awkward however. Much warmer today after clouds burned off in the morning, very pleasant afternoon.
Thu 6/14 - 55 minutes, Walden woods. Jury is still out on whether the left shin is headed towards manageable status or not. Experienced a dull soreness the entire run. Tried picking it up some the last 10 minutes, didn't feel much better or worse. Stumbling and bumbling on the uneven trail surface, a result of running in orthotics again and the change in foot positioning. Also the cause of generally feeling awkward and clunky with the stride. At the same time, I'm quite convinced that any kind of sustained running without the orthotics would be impossible. Noticeable tenderness high on the medial tibia with direct pressure after the run, some cross friction relieved some of it but it's not going to feel good tomorrow. Yet another cool overcast day with the ill easterly wind blowing.
Wed 6/13 - PM 60+ minutes easy, Area 51. Took a break at the halfway point to stretch. Soreness in left shin still there but far from unbearable. Felt better after the stretch break. A few more days of this and it will have reached a manageable state. Unseasonably cool today, blustery east wind all day.
Tue 6/12 - PM 25 minutes bike/30 minutes run/15 minutes bike. Rode over to Delaney project where I had a nostalgic run in the trails there. Not planning on running after shin felt like garbage from the moment I woke up, but stretching during the day and putting the orthotics back in my shoes made it possible. I'm thinking that the stretching and orthotics will be my way out of this. Kept the run shorter today, stiff at first, partially from the biking to get there. Limping somewhat but felt better near the end, right up until the last step in fact. I'll take it as a hopeful sign.

Mon 6/11 - PM just over 45 minutes in Walden woods that took just over an hour. 90 seconds run/30 seconds walk ad nauseum. Shin tight at first, loosened up and felt pretty good for a time, then I could feel the tib anterior get fatigued and start to tighten up after 40 minutes or so. I may have gone just a bit too far. Got in a good stretch afterwards. I'm hopeful it will continue to be manageable.
