Sun 10/16 - AM 95 minutes in Walden woods. Made it a point to take it easy early on, pushing the pace a bit without meaning to later. Finished feeling somewhat tired, yesterday really took a lot out of me. Haven't been back in these woods in what seems like too long, thanks to growing darkness. The gloom and dank finally gone, scoured out by huge winds. PM 25 minutes very easy. Planned on going at least twice as far, maybe doing strides, but nothing doing. Absolutely flat, still very tired from previous efforts. Left lower ab, spot that had been a bit sore after Tuesday, noticeably sore after this morning's run, will bear watching.

Sat 10/15 - AM 10 times up the entire hill on Comm Ave. Woke up with sore legs from yesterday's treadmill run. More bothersome was the fact that last night's rain became this morning's rain, the bullshit just won't end. Felt horrible during the 20 minute warmup, upon hearing the workout specs I knew the only way to survive it was to not push things overly, esp. at the outset. Pushing it only when the slope leveled out near the end. Due to the grass median being flooded out, ran up on the road, made for much better footing. Ran each hill in around 1:56, last few were a bit quicker than that, and number 7 was 1:52 which seemed like an aberration. Recoveries between 2:20 and 2:30. Not feeling especially great, but still better than I had thought after the way things felt warming up. Soaked to the bone from the get-go, temp. neither warm nor cold but cool enough that traipsing around in shorts sucked the warmth right out of me. Tired on the short cooldown, finished up feeling truly exhausted, the workout took more effort than I had realized at the time. Skipped the planned PM run. Another cheater long run on deck tomorrow.

Fri 10/14 - AM 20 minutes on the treadmill, smashing through the 17 minute boredom barrier. Some tightness on left quad tendon, will bear watching. PM 50 minutes more on the treadmill, 7.25 miles, cycling 8.1-9.2 mph. The week of gloom continues, rain got worse as the day went along as showers moved in. Not up for going outside in that crap. Seven full days with complete cloud cover. Needless to say it's gotten old. Left quad tendon felt fine during the run, tightened up some afterwards. Related to swelling and soreness further up in quad muscle.

Thu 10/13 - AM another 2 mile 17 minute run on the treadmill. I don't remember being this impatient and distracted on the thing last winter, but it's obnoxious. PM 70 minutes, Pratt's Brook to Stow Road, back via White Pond Road. Moving a bit better than yesterday, took a while to loosen up. Able to do 4 quick pickups on the way in which broke things up near the end. Sun hasn't been seen for six days now, the constant threat of rain more annoying than the lack of blue sky.

Wed 10/12 - PM 90 minutes or so, Area 51. The gloom continues, weather that is well-nigh impossible to dress for with the constant threat of rain. Feeling predictably stiff and sore, just another Wednesday run in that regard. Unable to do much of anything with the pace so it stayed slow throughout. Some soreness in left hip flexor/psoas region, always fun. Last night's workout didn't feel that stressful at the time, but the length of it ensured a more lasting effect.

Tue 10/11 - AM 2m on the treadmill in 17 big minutes. In 6+ months since last using it, I had forgotten how onerous treadmill running can be, esp. at 6 am. As such, got off at 2m instead of going to 20 minutes. PM Chestnut Hill road+path loop tempo, 4 laps of an approx. 1.75 mile loop in 39:38. First lap 10:10, then laps of 9:52, 9:56, and 9:41 to close. Made a conscious effort to run it as a progression, without accurate split markers trying to gauge pace was useless anyway. Apart from some minor struggles the second lap and the inevitable smelling the barn door the last 5 minutes, felt like a tempo instead of a glorified time trial. Able to pick it up at the end which is what I was going for. The rain continues, along with a stiff E wind that raked about a quarter of the loop. Path portion was a muddy mess, but short. Warmup and cooldown added up to about 45 minutes.

Mon 10/10 - PM 65 minutes, rail bed to 10 Spencer, short break, then over to Shaw's in Stow, short break, then home via Summer Road. Disgusting weather, spent all day walking around the city, barely awake on the drive home. Combined with the abysmal conditions, 54 degrees, drizzle and some wind, impossible to dress for, thought about bagging it for the day but got out there nonetheless. Moving fairly well much of the way, esp. the middle portion on the way to Lower Village. Wet as a drowned rat by the end, done in more ways than one. Current weather tests one's patience.
