Sun 4/16 - AM 85 minutes easy in Walden woods. Started off slow, gradually picked it up, overshot the mark for the day after a long workout, and wilted the last half hour or so as a result. Much cooler today, wind still blowing but coming from the NW. PM 40 minutes easy, Area 51. The idea of the run was to get to the track and do some strides, but still just not feeling it and had to take a pass. Ended up being a glorified stroll, took a long break to examine an abandoned sauna in the woods.
Sat 4/15 - AM Long tempo in Lincoln combining both loops, ca. 8 miles in 44:22. Started with the 4.6m loop, splits of 5:25, 5:38, 5:34, 3:18, 5:18, then up 117 to Waltham Street and onto the flat loop for the last 2+ miles. Fifth and sixth miles difficult to pin down exactly, but the last two were 5:36 and 5:35. Solid but not spectacular effort, as they say. Started out too hard the first half mile, settled into a rhythm after that that remained quite consistent except for the inevitable quickening when going down the last half mile of the 4.6, where the 15 second rule was in effect. I had hoped to be able to get the splits down into the 5:20s for the last two miles but it wasn't going to happen w/o undue effort. Some stiffness in right hip which has been that way for a week or so. Cool breezy conditions, the wind was more or less in my face the last two miles.
Fri 4/14 - PM 65 minutes in Cambridge, Fresh Pond to Harvard Square then along the river to Comm Ave. Feeling better than yesterday but not exactly spry. Took a while for stiffness in my legs to work itself out. Still a bit flat and tired, but feeling better than I have been recently. Another warm breezy day.
Thu 4/13 - PM 75+ minutes, Area 51. Paying the piper for the past two days, sore and tired. Legs stiff, not moving especially well, so pace stayed very very easy throughout. Relaxed but a bit boring to do this, but no other choice. Like many easy runs of late, there were various lengthy stops to check out the scenery as spring rolls along. Another warm and breezy day.
Wed 4/12 - PM 85 minutes in Lincoln woods. Motivation level was high for a Wednesday, mind willing but flesh not quite as able. Had to take it easy much of the time although not going as slowly as usual for the day after a workout. Picked it up somewhat the last 20 minutes but not to an impressive degre. Warm day with gusty winds.
Tue 4/11 - PM 30 minute warmup, 10 times up and down Heartbreak bottom to top. Laying low the last two days appears to have paid dividends, this workout went better than expected. Times up the hill were roughly similar to the last time, mostly around 1:56, but the runs back down the hill were quicker this time, around 2:12 for a lot of them. Prevailing easterly wind made for a headwind going up but a gentle push goind down which may have helped with the quick return trips. The whole thing ended up taking just under 42 minutes. On a whim I decided to use the more well-worn path up the hill instead of the rougher track on the right side, and the difference was noticeable, much less stumbling and flailing on uneven spots. Why I haven't been using the beaten path in the past is something of a mystery, although in the past running with a group it gets crowded on that side. It's also much easier to run these hills when it's not dark out and it's possible to see what's coming. Cooldown was a slow jog, worn out by this point.

Mon 4/10 - PM 65 minutes in Area 51, incl. a visit to the tick-infested interior. Still feeling tired and strung out, plodding along for most of the run. Steady breeze kept things cool but other than that a nice day to be outside.
