Sun 5/14 - PM 90 minutes meandering through Area 51, very easy and low-key. Getting cabin fever after spending most of yesterday and today cooped up inside as the gullywashing rains kept rolling in. Finally some break by late afternoon, went for a relaxed jog and that's all my legs could provide anyway. Tired and sore from yesterday, took it easy the entire time as a result. A couple of longish breaks interspersed.

Sat 5/13 - AM 3x2000, 4x400 4R between the long reps and 1.5R between the quarters. Each 2k was run at 77 pace, more or less even-paced, although the second one was negative split. Able to change gears the first two reps, the last one was more about staying on pace and not wasting energy. 400s went in 68-70, with the ones I led being at 70. The other two were too fast, took too much out of me and required every ounce of focus. As such, completely knackered for the warmdown which was a 15 minute crawl. In the context of recent events, this workout is a step forward, in the larger scheme, further proof I'm behind where I was in January. Weather conditions only a fish could love, driving rain and wind. Just warm enough to keep from freezing completely. Glad to be done, weather made it more tiring.

Fri 5/12 - PM 50 minutes, Area 51 to Old Mill. Feeling tired and slow much of the way, but stuck to the plan and did a series of 30 second pickups with 60 second recoveries at the end and it cleared the fog a great deal. Finally had a decent night's sleep, first of the week. Still feeling a bit vulnerable, but much better than a week ago. Just wrapping up today's run as the raindrops started to fly, the persistent easterly flow continues on and on and on.

Thu 5/11 - PM 50 minutes very slow, Pratt's Brook to rail bed. Looking to go easy today, ended up going even easier than expected and not by choice. Found myself going slower and slower as the run went along. Tired exhausted feeling like a weight pressing down on my shoulders. Sleep problems once again the likely culprit. No point in forcing the issue, so I cut the length of the run short and headed back early to minimize the damage. Hopefully no tossing and turning tonight as that's been the problem of late. Another overcast day, but no rain which makes it better than the past few and likely the next few as well.

Wed 5/10 - PM 60 minutes in Area 51. Dragging by late afternoon, but moving quicker than I thought I would from the get-go. Too quickly as it turned out, started to get the disconnect feeling of not being in touch with my own effort level and staying within myself for the nature of the run. As such, made a conscious effort to ease up after 20 minutes and wait for the end to do some more pickups, 6x30 seconds with 60 sec. recovery. Right leg (hip) still more locked up than I'd like it to be, sticking with the stretching for now and hoping it will be sufficient to do the trick. Weather improved somewhat over yesterday, which isn't saying much. Cool and damp and staying that way for a while. Saturday looks to be awful.

Tue 5/9 - PM 40 minutes on the treadmill, just over 5.5m. Steadily picked up speed from 6 to 9.5 mph. First treadmill run in months, thanks to atrocious weather conditions, full-on spring nor'easter with driving rain and temps in the mid-40s. I'd like to think the decreased volume is having some beneficial effect, I want to test myself but it would be rash and counterproductive so nothing crazy.

Mon 5/8 - PM 35+ minutes around Maynard with 8x30 second pickups, 90 seconds jog between each. Maybe I shouldn't be doing any fast running at all but I can't help myself, venting my frustration as much as anything else. The pickups felt decent, legs a bit stiff and breathing a bit harder than I would like but it's worth it to be able to do something other than slog around or take the day off. Working on restoring some kind of range of motion to tight hip joints, esp. right one, by stretching conscientously after runs. Yesterday's west winds changed in the afternoon today to east winds again, as it has been for 10 of the last 12 days it seems. Forecast is not promising.
