Sun 5/13 - AM 70 minutes easy, track road to Area 51. Sunny breezy morning, very nice conditions to be outside. Took it easy after having great difficulty sleeping last night, return of the teflon consciousness. Tib. anterior back to being tight again, we'll see how it feels in the evening. It did loosen up some as the run progressed. PM 40+ minutes, Area 51, with six strides on the way in. Left shin still tight, somewhat disappointingly, although the worst of it passed quickly. I may have overdone it with the compressions on the tib anterior. Everything but the left shin area was feeling quite good, all the stretching lately has restored mobility and range of motion. I can't help feeling that with a happy resolution to the shinsplints and a little more rest I could run much better than I have been lately.

Sat 5/12 - AM Bentley 1600 5:03 and then kaput. Planned workout was 2k @ 75/lap, then 2x1200, 400. What happened instead can be summed up as longish run yesterday + staying up far too late for no good reason + morning workout = predictable result. Sabotaging myself once again, someday I'll learn. Familiar feeling of having no strength to draw from. I honestly feel that had I tried this workout yesterday I could have done it despite the humidity and sore leg, but instead I played myself. Not helping things was the left tib anterior and shin which were tight as a drum to start. Got progressively better through the warmup, short attempt at running fast, and 30 minute cooldown, but still stiff and awkward stride. Did some major compressions with the stick along the length of the tib. anterior after getting home, this felt like it did some good. PM 45 minutes easy, Area 51. Big news of this evening's run was that the compressions with the stick did in fact help the afflicted area, it felt much much better than yesterday or this morning's warmup. Although it started to feel just a little more sore as the run went along, which I kind of expected. Not tight, but sore. Hopefully continued attention with the stick will eliminate the problem entirely.

Fri 5/11 - PM just under 90 minutes, Walden woods. Left lower leg (not just shin) never really loosened up over the course of the run, although it did become slightly less bothersome. Not a good sign, two days of neglecting the stretching and it feels terrible. Got in a good stretch afterwards and later on didn some serious compressions on the soleus and gastroc. Found some very tender areas and big adhesions, I'm thinking from favoring the original sore spot (adductor longis?). Left ankle also twinging on every ding, reminder of the time I turned it warming up before the 5k at Harvard almost three months ago. All the leg issues kept the pace from progressing as much as I would have liked, although I was able to get in five strides on the way in. Overall the run was a bit longer than I had originally planned, hopefully not a problem for tomorrow. Morning showers left behind cloying humidity, not as warm as yesterday but definitely less comfortable.

Thu 5/10 - PM 35 minutes easy, Area 51. No time in the schedule for anything more or I would have gone further. Still stiff in the shin to start, overall feeling better and more mobile than yesterday. Another warmer than normal day.

Wed 5/9 - PM just under 90 minutes very easy, Lincoln woods. I had hopes of progressing to easy, but it didn't quite happen. The run ended up lasting longer than planned, partly because it took longer than I thought it would to cover the route I chose. Left shin terribly stiff this morning, felt better after some hands-on treatment during the day, still quite stiff to start off today. Very warm today, first 80+ degree day since last summer.

Tue 5/8 - PM Bentley 8x800 with just over 2R. Splits averaged 2:27.5, ranging from 2:31 down to 2:24.5, which was the last one. Much better effort than anything I've done recently on the track and more indicative of current fitness. Once again, it also helped to have people to run with, what with the stiff crosswind blasting away on every home turn. With the shorter recovery, the fatigue piled up by the end. Last two reps required more focus. Shin took most of the warmup to loosen up any, got through the workout fine but I'm sure it will feel terrible tomorrow. Left psoas started twinging immediately upon finishing the final rep.

Mon 5/7 - PM 80+ minutes, Lincoln woods. Started easy, loosened up and felt better after 20 minutes (incl. left shin) and the pace got quicker after that. Just a tiny bit overextended at the hour mark, pulled it back for a bit before picking it up agin the lat 10 minutes. Overall feeling better than expected. Much warmer today, breeze a mere rumor. A very nice day to be outside.
