Sun 9/11 - PM 80 minutes in Walden woods followed by 10 strides barefoot on the bumpy crappy soccer field in Concord. Woke up, ate breakfast, and realized I was feeling really tired, went back to bed. Definitely a cumulative sleep deficit from the past week or two, hopefully goes a long way towards explaining the lackluster running of late. I knew after yesterday's slog that a long run today wouldn't be advisable, went shorter and added strides instead. Odd feeling to run in the evening on Sunday, a nice time to be out with cool dry conditions. Right hip/thigh/adductor mess not so bothersome during the run except for near the very end.

Sat 9/10 - AM tempo crapfest in Lincoln, on the flatter Old Sudbury road course. A 4.4 mile course, out-and-back to rt. 117. Feeling stiff, got greedy, and decided I would do it twice using the first one to loosen up. Leg felt like dung the whole time, twinging and sticking all through the warmup. Started off with a mile barely under six minutes. Overreacted to that and rapped off the next two in around 5:30 apiece which was too fast. Went the rest of the way at probably 5:35 pace or so, the splits on this course aren't quite accurate. Took 8 minute break, started out at what felt like a much faster pace but the split was 5:45. Next mile in 5:30 took way too much effort and I bagged it there. The splits on the watch didn't match the level of exertion I was feeling, very frustrating. Not running nearly as well as last year at this time, leg fucked up and feeling tired all the time. PM 40 minutes very easy in Area 51. Leg felt much better than it did in the morning.

Fri 9/9 - Longest laundry run ever, 100 minutes or so of slow slow plodding. A combination of sore legs and a sneaky Friday tiredness kept me from feeling up for anything faster than a shambling jog. Mildly frustrating, extended the run since it required no real effort to do so. Most of the run spent in Area 51. Nice day again, we've had a good run lately.

Thu 9/8 - PM 80+ minutes in Acton, Nagog Hill to W. Acton center, followed by drills on the turf field. A run pungent with nostalgia, except for the golf course that's been built where the trail used to be in the woods. Stride felt crisp at the outset, thanks to the day off yesterday, right leg started twinging as it tightened up later on in the run. Barefoot on the turf field felt great again, I think the drills are going to be part of my Mon/Thurs routine from here on out. Only bummer was the mosquitoes that forced me to cut the stretching short.

Wed 9/7 - off. Wired out of my mind after last night's workout, tossing and turning all night as a result. The circadian yo-yo continues. Despite this, not especially tired, could have gotten a run in but went for a walk in the Framingham woods instead to survey trails.

Tue 9/6 - PM warmup from Newton North to BC reservoir, 6x3 minutes with 1 minute jog recovery on the res. path, cooldown back to NN parking lot. RIght leg somewhat locked up, not a problem during the workout itself but tightened up some on the cooldown. Despite yesterday's race, I was able to maintain a consistent effort, moving well and making a conscious effort to pick up the pace the last 30 seconds of the last few reps. Today was another in a long string of perfect weather days.

Mon 9/5 - AM Greylock road race, 8m in 57:13. Ran like garbage, combination of knotted right thigh and Saturday's insomniac episode left me feeling drained on the starting line. Race started and the eventual winner immediately gapped me and ended up running just a bit faster than what I did last year under similar conditions. The first 3 miles hit me like a 2x4 and I gave up on racing and focused on surviving after that. The whole thing was just a chore and I was glad to get it over with. 10 minute slow crawl in the parking lot at the summit as a cooldown. PM 30 minutes superslow in Acton followed by drills and strides on the new ABRHS turf field. Fantastic surface for the barefoot stuff. Like yesterday, doing the drills left legs feeling much better than they were before.
