Sun 7/9 - AM 40 minutes easy, track road to White Pond road. The flies forced a right hand turn back to civilization where ordinarily I would go left into Area 51. One more day of doubles before heading back to the workaday grind. Towards the end, pace of this morning run got quicker than any previous morning run lately. PM 85 minutes, Walden woods. Shooting for 90, going great guns until 40 minutes or so at which point I started feeling overextended. Steadily ran out of gas after that, got to the pond at 75' overheated. Feeling quite spent afterwards, mildly febrile. A sure sign that I pushed things just a bit too much. High humidity didn't help matters at all. Despite this, feeling feisty on these evening runs for the past few days, good to be free of the burden of doing workouts every three days and just being able to put in the time.

Sat 7/8 - AM 45 minutes easy. Clearing out the cobwebs, extending the run just a bit longer than previous days. Shooting for the magic 2 hour mark for the day overall. PM 75 minutes, Walden woods. Ran at a faster clip than most recent runs right from the get-go, kind of ran out of gas after an hour which coincided with the break for a dip in the pond. Much more acclimated to humidity now after a few days of running in it.

Fri 7/7 - AM 35 minutes easy in Area 51. Right knee still somewhat sore but not like the end of yesterday's run. Hamstring soreness seems to be working its way out a bit. Nice morning, sunny but not too hot or humid. PM 75 minutes in Walden woods. Had to get through some leg stiffness early on, after that moving relatively well. LIght years ahead of where I was Wednesday. Creeping up towards the 2 hour mark for total daily volume.

Thu 7/6 - AM 30 minutes easy. Tired, had to pry myself out of bed to get the run in. Kept it quite low-key, right leg continues to be a bit off. PM 70+ minutes, Walden woods. Gradually feeling better from yesterday, started slow and able to get moving somewhat after that. Right knee became noticeably sore on downhill stretches, not a good thing. Somewhat cooler today, but still plenty warm enough for a dip, as usual the highlight of the day.

Wed 7/5 - PM 70 minutes slooow, Lincoln woods. Felt like complete garbage the first half of the run, marginally better after that. Calves sore, right hip sore, right hammie resisting all attempts to lift leg beyond about 45 degrees. To top it off, very humid conditions. Not especially pleasant experience, but some of the kinks did get worked out. Feeling it for the effort yesterday and all the driving as well.

Tue 7/4 - AM Bridgton race, 4m in 22:11. Mile splits of 5:12, 5:50, 5:37 and 5:33. I had foolishly gotten confident yesterday about my chances at cracking the top 3 of this thing, not even close. I suppose it's to be expected after a 10 day layoff and the muscle soreness on returning. Best to recognize that so as not be demoralized by racing at tempo pace. Still feeling flat and tired because just as before the break I'm still not sleeping well or enough. Humid but not as hot as it could have been. Saved my worst for last with this particular race, a nice enough area to visit but it's too much of a pain to justify the long drive. PM 40 minutes very slow, Walden woods. I had the idea that an afternoon shakeout would be a good idea, was I ever wrong. Felt worthless, air thick enough to cut with a knife, 'nuff said. Best part was the dip in the pond, I should have just walked over and back instead of running.

Mon 7/3 - AM 40 minutes very easy, rt. 114 Sebago. More morning leg stiffness, took most of the run to loosen up even a bit. Tomorrow's effort will be a supreme shock to the system in this respect. Sunny and hot, maybe not quite as humid today as yesterday. PM 30+ minutes, Bridgton race course backwards. Moving at a decent enough pace, all things considered. Downhills not treating the legs well at all.
