Sun 5/7 - AM 50 minutes easy, Area 51. Stuck between wanting to continue to train and not wanting to prolong the slide I'm in. Took it easy and kept the run short as a result. Overtraining is one very likely explanation for the sleep problems of late, even though I've been trying to cut back on volume and intensity it looks to not be enough. Nice day today, like yesterday, first time in a while that the winds have been out of the west instead of E/NE.
Sat 5/6 - AM Failed track workout, supposed to do the Sev Special and only got through two 800s and the first lap of the third before crapping out. Sensing the downward slide coming on and unable to focus. The relatively slow pace is just too damn hard to run. The whole day was a low point even for the recent crappy state I've been in. Very frustrating, unable to get a good night's rest since the vacation and it's leaving me flat all the time. I haven't had a hard workout or race at anywhere close to my fitness level since, yep, the end of the vacation week. Looking like the track 10k is a lost cause, disappointing as I've been mulling it over for the past year or so. Hard to say if this malaise came on suddenly or gradually, it's been difficult to get any perspective quite frankly.
Fri 5/5 - AM 40 minutes very easy in Area 51. Legs stiff, but it was nice to be out on a sunny morning nonetheless. Taking advantage of a day off from work. Got in a good stretch afterwards, which did my legs good. I need to be stretching more regularly after runs. PM 70 minutes, Great Brook. Back for the first time in a while, hit most of the highlights incl. the Tophet trail. In a decent groove most of the way, at the hour mark threw in an extended surge to stay ahead of a mountain-biker on the twisty singletrack. Quite fun but probably more effort than I should have been putting forth, jogged in the rest of the way. Right hip, which has been tight and sore lately, felt better after the morning's stretch but the run on uneven surfaces probably wasn't the best thing for it.
Thu 5/4 - PM just under 80 minutes, Lincoln woods. Slowly getting some of my mojo back, feeling better today than the previous two days and able to stretch the run out past an hour as a result. Legs stiff and sore, never really felt totally smooth. Left heel sore in addition to both hammies and right hip area remains somewhat locked up. Not nearly as tired, a lot more in the tank today. Warm sunny day, big change from the past three days.
Wed 5/3 - 40 minutes in Area 51. Feeling marginally better than yesterday, but the fog has yet to lift completely. Theoretically I was supposed to do a workout today but I took a pass, with no regrets whatsoever. Right hammie continues to twinge, and the effort of running hard would have put me under in no time. Continued overcast rainy conditions with steady NE winds, but 5 degrees warmer than yesterday.
Tue 5/2 - 35 minutes easy in Area 51. Hammie still sore and feeling very tired to boot, overall mood matched the dismal weather. Temps stuck in the mid 40s with persistent rain. I could really use a massage right now with the state my legs are in. Did some stretching after the run and it felt a little better but still dealing with extreme flatness.

Mon 5/1 - off. Feeling quite low after yesterday's effort. Right hammie is tweaked, likely from all the rolling terrain of the course and a reminder that the effort was a race even if the pace was more like a tempo. In looking at the results for others, it would seem that maybe the new course is a little tougher than I had thought compared to the previous course.
