Sun 5/6 - PM just under an hour, incl. 5k in 16:40 controlled effort on a moderately rolling course. Unable to resist the lure of easy money, but who is. Feeling more tired than I'd like beforehand, cobwebs cleared after the warmup. Shin/tib anterior muscle took most of the warmup to feel like anything other than a pegleg. Pulse was higher lying in bed just after waking up than it was an hour later sitting in my chair, which I find odd. later PM 45 minutes easy, Area 51. Certainly as a result of pounding the roads, left leg from the knee down felt like complete garbage. Particularly noticed on the Walnut street downhill near the end, left foot thudding into the ground like deadweight as tib anterior is pretty much overwhelmed and can't do its job. Yet again, put in some hands-on time with the whole area and found some adhesions deep down to go with the obvious ones. My sense is it'll get better in time, but I won't be wearing the swoops again for a while.
Sat 5/5 - AM 60 minutes easy, Area 51. Took a while to get going this morning, shaking out the cobwebs the first 10+ minutes. As expected lower left leg was quite stiff and took a long time, most of the run really, to loosen up the slightest bit. Felt somewhat better after a stretching break. PM 45 minutes easy, Area 51. Not as stiff as the morning run which is to be expected but given how the left shin has been feeling I'll take it as a positive.
Fri 5/4 - PM 4000m alternating pace each 800m. Total time 13:07, splits of 2:31, 2:45, 2:31, 2:46, 2:34. Stopped at least a mile earlier than what I was hoping to accomplish. On pace through 3200m but the effort to do that was too much, thus the slowdown on the last 800 despite trying to dig a little deeper. Thought about doing some 200s but realized it would be counterproductive. Overall just too flat and tired, two nights in a row of getting to bed too late after coop day Wednesday. The wind, which was relentless out of the NW all damn day, was also an annoyance. No one to hide behind today. Of more concern than the flatness was the lower left leg, which was a mess by the end of the workout. In addition to soreness in shin, tibialis anterior is one big knot, It's doing its own work plus that of the muscle under the tibia which is causing the shin soreness. Very tender and sore as a result. Worked it over afterwards, this made it feel somewhat better. Warmup and cooldown added up to just under an hour.
THu 5/3 - PM 85 minutes, Track Road to Area 51. Made an effort to take it easy mindful of tomorrow's workout. Some stiffness in legs but not like yesterday. Six strides on the way in that could have felt better, more an exercise in loosening up the legs than anything else. Cool dry conditions, nice day to be outside.
Wed 5/2 - PM 45 minutes very easy, Longfellow loop. Got a late start which both shortened the run and kept me on the roads. Legs stiff and sore as expected which kept things quite mellow. Pretty close to full-fledged shin splints on the left side.
Tuesday 5/1 - PM Bentley 3x1600 between 4:57 and 4:58, just over 4R, followed by 6x200 w/200 jog recovery, 35.7 to 33.4 with recoveries just under a minute. Under control and relatively relaxed throughout, a welcome change from recent attempts at anything resembling long repeats. Unlike recent workouts, I also had people to run with which makes a difference as well. Calves sore going in from the past two days, somewhat concerned that I pressed it a bit too much yesterday. Once legs loosened up on the warmup, it wasn't an issue. Left shin still tight and sore, but that loosened up as well.

Mon 4/30 - PM 80+ minutes in Walden woods. Ventured off the beaten path at times onto seldom-seen side trails. Some soreness in hammies and legs in general from yesterday, but not as bad as I had expected. Left shin twinging the last half hour and it's from wearing the swoops and the uneven ground. Warm, dry day, sustained winds.
