Sun 6/4 - off. Spent much of the day in bed, feeling distinctly lackluster. Congestion continues to be a problem.

Sat 6/3 - PM 3k DNF, lasted 4 laps before calling it a day. Splits of 69, 71, 72, 73 and it was just taking way too much effort to be slowing down like that. Unable to dig deep and apply myself, which tells me that yet again, I'm either overtrained or underrested. Looking at the log over the past few weeks it's fairly obvious which one it is. Story of my life. Very frustrating pattern the past two weeks of doing a solid workout mid-week and then shitting the bed completely on the weekend. This week I got progressively more tired and run-down as the week progressed, feeling exhausted by Friday for no good reason. Slept in this morning, then took another nap after doing some shopping in the afternoon. Still had an elevated pulse after all that sleeping, which told me my goose might be cooked. At least I had the good sense to drop out this time. Weather was miserable as predicted, wind-driven rain with temps in the 50s. Certainly not PR conditions but not the deciding factor in my crappy effort either. The mind was willing, body not able.

Fri 6/2 - PM 45+ minutes in Area 51. Similar loop to a few days ago, a bit longer. Legs feeling better than yesterday, not saying much but it's something. Six untimed pickups on the way in. Feeling "Friday tired" by the end of the day today, unable to resist the urge to take a nap after getting home from work. Still dealing with some mild cold symptoms, mainly congestion. Temps on the way down after being nasty and sticky all week, tomorrow looks to be a washout.

Thu 6/1 - PM 30 minutes easy, Area 51. Felt like garbage in all respects. Legs more stiff than I would have expected. Also, it would appear I have the late spring sore throat which is always frustrating. Skipped doing any kind of pickups as a result. The weather broke just after I finished the run, some welcome relief to the high temps lately.

Wed 5/31 - PM 45+ minutes very easy in Area 51. Woke up with legs feeling dented and dinged, also with the unwelcome beginnings of a sore throat. By late afternoon weather was hot and sticky, all these factors contributed to a low-key effort. Did feel a bit better the last 10 minutes, picked up the pace noticeably. Turtles still busy on the paths.

Tue 5/30 - Bentley PM 2000 6:11 3.5R 1200 3:31 3.5R 4x400 1.5R 67.3, 66.3, 67.3, 65.1. 2k was evenly paced, more or less, although I felt like I was being jumped the last lap by the others I was running with. Not as relaxed as I would like, but under control. Switched out of flats and into spikes after the 2k. 1200 (69/70/72) was on target as far as overall time, although the too-fast first lap sabotaged any hope of running even or neg. splits. Coming off relatively short rest, it was a solid effort. 400s were all under control, I had the feeling that I could have done at least one more at the same speed. Somewhat surprising as I thought the short rest would catch up to me towards the end of the workout, didn't happen. Now I have two solid workouts bracketing a piss-poor race. Makes me think the muggies and late bedtimes last week were more the cause. As such, changed my mind about not racing this weekend, the shorter race distance is better for my current state of fitness anyway. Weather conditions improved markedly as the workout got going, after a sunny day that got increasingly warm and sticky until NE breeze and overcast came in and cooled things off.

Mon 5/29 - PM 45 minutes, first to supermarket for 10, then back for 15 with 5 pounds of fruit on my back, dropped off the ballast for the final 20 which included 8 30/60s. Other than a noisome stuck right adductor, legs feeling better than they did yesterday. Humidity has only increased from the weekend, run of the mill stuff for July or August but highly unwelcome right about now. Sticky nasty air.
