Sun 10/2 - AM 45 minutes very easy, 2 laps around Fresh Pond. Took the "natural" option with side trails off the main path whenever possible. A nice morning, excellent early fall weather with the temp rising gradually as the sun rose higher. Legs stiff to start out, ROM in left knee a bit compromised at first due to continued swelling, but it loosened up in time. Running fast on it may be a problem, but I'm thinking it will get better before Tuesday. PM 90 minutes in Walden woods, like the morning run very easy. Spent the day out and about in the city, a fair amount of walking, as expected too beat to do much more than jog. Quads somewhat sore but overall I'm feeling nowhere near as beat up as this same day last year, when the harder effort at applefest left me totally destroyed.
Sat 10/1 - AM Applefest half-marathon in 1:12:25. Sunny cool conditions, better than last year, ran a minute slower this time but I'll take it. Actually a positive sign, I think the low point was reached a few weeks back and I may be on the rebound now. Unlike last year when I served as the rabbit for 8 miles, I let others lead and made a conscious effort to keep something in reserve for the inevitably awful 10th and 11th miles. Those miles were rough, both near six minutes, but I was able to keep a hold of second place which was all I was going for at that point. Finished feeling truly spent. In line with somewhat diminished expectations, the warmup was too short. Cooldown a 20 minute shuffle on a flat field. PM 45 minute very slow laundry run. Left PA blew up somewhat after the race, not really a surprise given how it felt the past few days. May need to go back to orthotics for a while, but it may simmer down on its own. Need to stretch more.
Fri 9/30 - AM 20 minutes real easy, first morning cold enough for sleeves and pants. Brisk and refreshing for now, likely to get old by next month. PM 30 minutes easy with 5 pickups near the end. As much of a taper as I'll be doing for the half marathon tomorrow. Noticed some sore spots on lowermost medial tibia, more so on left side. Left PA feels tight as a drum, of course related to the soreness lower down on the same leg.
Thu 9/29 - AM 20 minutes easy in Levittown. Moving well enough for this time of day, but had a rotten time falling asleep last night for no good reason. The late workout on Tuesday has rippling repercussions. PM 65 minutes easy, Acton St. to Conant Road, Pratt's Brook to Stop and Shop and back. After letting the rains pass through, thought I'd do a shopping run, got stuck in the GD woods by the old Grace plant and the run ended up being longer than I'd intended. To top it off, the store didn't have what I went there to get. As expected, got very tired coming home from work, barely able to stay awake before heading out for the run.
Wed 9/28 - PM 85 minutes easy in Area 51. Took it very easy after last night's workout which was the hardest in a while. Very relaxed, pace picked up ever so gradually the second half but never to anything resembling moving. Wired to the hilt again last night after getting home from practice, difficult to fall asleep under such conditions but once out it was the deep, dreamless variety.
Tue 9/27 - AM 20 minutes easy, still muggy at this early hour. PM 4x6 minutes with 3R on the BC res path, warmup/cooldown from NN. Right leg not all there, hammie's been dragged into it along with hip flexor, but the workout went well nonetheless. Made a conscious effort to bear down the last 2 minutes or so of each rep. Better focus than last week's repeat session. TFL started tightening up after the second one, original plan called for up to five but I knew after the third that I'd be stopping at four. As is always the case, AM runs make it easier to get loosened up for the PM runs.

Mon 9/26 - AM 20 minutes easy, noticeably humid again. PM 70 minutes, Lincoln woods. Moving as well as can be expected for much of the run. A bit peaked the last 5 minutes but cruising along up until then. Right hammie feels mildly strained.
