Sun 4/2 - PM 95 minutes, Area 51 followed by a loop through Levittown and Summerhill Rd. This was a laundry run, with the first chunk taking 70 minutes. Kept the pace easy at first, slowly picking things up until the break, then the last 25 minutes were decidedly uptempo, similar to Thursday's run in fact. Felt under control and relaxed all things considered. Waited until late in the afternoon so as to maximize recovery time from yesterday's long workout. I'm thinking my "long run" for the rest of the spring will be more along the lines of today, shorter and more focused as opposed to simply jogging for 2 hours plus. We'll see. Continued warmer temps, but with a north wind all day which was an odd combo. Weather looks to be going to shit after tomorrow.

Sat 4/1 - AM double tempo on the flat out+back course in Lincoln. Looking for 5:45 pace the first time, splits of 5:48, 5:39, 2:21 for the turn-around, 5:44, and 5:39, total of 25:11. After 6:30 recovery, the second go-round went 5:30, 5:28, 2:18, 5:27, 5:28, total time of 24:11. As I was looking to go 15 sec/mile faster the second time, the workout went well, although I was worred that I had overdone it a bit the first time, particularly the last two miles of it. My fears were assuaged after getting out on target the first two miles of the second loop without feeling overexteneded. In fact I was able to pick it up further on the way back and pile it on a bit more. Obnoxious wind coming in the last mile, and last 800m especially. I'm not sold on the accuracy of the mile splits, the first/last mile seems a bit long but it is what it is. Went off into the woods on the cooldown, ended up going somewhat further afield than I would have liked. Warmest day yet of the spring season.

Fri 3/31 - AM 30 minutes, Brook Path to Abbott and Wellesley Ave. A bit sore and stiff. The day will be a warm one. PM 65 minutes in Brookline, Muddy River path to Jamaica Pond and back on Washington Street. Yesterday's effort caught up to me on this run and it was very very easy as a result. Planned on doing strides near the end but it wasn't happening. By the time the legs loosened up a bit the run was over.

Thu 3/30 - PM 90 minutes in the Lincoln woods. Started with the Farrar Pond trail, then over to Walden, up Pine Hill and back via the ballfields. Looking forward to this run all day at work. My plan was to jog for an hour then gradually pick up the pace the last 30 minutes, more or less what happened although the early pace was a bit quicker than I expected. Effort felt controlled, working hard but not straining towards the end. The malaise may finally be coming to an end. Some tightness and soreness in right hip during the day at work, not that noticeable after loosening up on the run. Warmer weather has arrived.

Wed 3/29 - AM 30 minutes, Wash St. to Brook Path. Legs somewhat stiff but not as sore as I was expecting them to be. Started off a bit to quickly for the early hour, settled into a more relaxed rhythm after a few minutes. PM 60 minutes, Area 51 Puffer Road to Craven Lane. Couldn't stay away despite the gathering darkness and me forgetting my flashlight. Trails much more attractive prospect than running the Longfellow Loop. Despite some tightness in hamstrings, legs continue to feel better than I would have expected for a Wednesday. Did six pickups on the way home.

Tue 3/28 - PM 30 minute warmup Beacon Street to BC then 8x heartbreak hill bottom to top. First two times up were around 2:00, next five between 1:56 and 1:57, with the last one going in 1:54. Trips back down the hill went by quickly, from 2:25 at the start to 2:19 by the end. Closer to a float than a recovery jog. Made a conscious effort to increase the intensity level both within each repeat and from the first repeat to the last. Working hard but never totally at wit's end. As good a workout as I'm likely to have on this godforsaken hill, particularly considering that I went up on the grass instead of the pavement. As ever, there were ruts to deal with on the uneven surface. Both hip flexors, esp. the left one, were sore afterwards. Left psoas or piriformis particularly problematic as it was twinging every time I breathed while lying in bed. Had to do some work on it in order to get to sleep.

Mon 3/27 - AM 30 minutes, Wellesley Ave to Wash St. Right adductor tight and sore from yesterday. Chilly breeze. PM 60 minutes, rail bed to Mt. Hope back through Levittown. Legs stiff and felt tired to start, low on energy as well. Started to feel better after the halfway mark, particularly on the even surface of roads. Last 7 minutes were a sustained pickup that felt surprisingly smooth given how stiff legs were at the start.
