Sun 4/1 - AM 80 minutes very easy, Track Road to Area 51. As expected, legs are stiff, calves sore. Straight recovery run, puttering along. PM 30 minutes very easy, Main to Sumerhill. More of same.
Sat 3/31 - AM 8 mile Lincoln tempo, hitting all the highlights, in 45:20. Splits of 5:31, 5:48, 5:38, 6:10 (1.1), 5:40, 5:05 (0.9), 5:46, 5:42. Assuming the distance was accurate, somehow those numbers all add up to 5:40 pace. It was more or less what I was going for, although dipping under 45:00 for the whole thing would have been nice. Last 3 miles were a chore, but I was able to attenuate the effort and get it done. Did the first 800m too fast, typical for not having a handle on pace sense. Typically breezyonly rarely felt like it was at my back. Right leg sore and twinging, both calves sore. Cooldown a 20 minute crawl.
Fri 3/30 - AM 25 minutes very easy Summerhill to Main. Slept through the night for once, felt up for a morning jog. PM 65 minutes easy in Lincoln woods. Would have liked to run a little quicker, but dealing with sore legs and some overall fatigues from the increased volume of the pasts week. Left psoas still sore and twinging. Trails are now clear, hooray.
Thu 3/29 - PM 80 minutes easy, Area 51 to Old Marlboro and Old Mill. Very similar route to Monday, only a little more tacked onto the end after leaving the refuge. The fact that I went further in less time is more of a testament to how slow Monday's run was, not moving fast at all. Left psoas tight and sore from yesterday, felt terrible at first and starting up after a mid-run pee break. The lack of snow on the patrol road was a difference-maker as well. Very windy again today.
Wed 3/28 - PM just under 80 minutes total incl. 12x1 minute hill reps on Thompson St, 90 second recoveries jogging back down. 35 minute warmup in Area 51 where the ground was very soft, annoying and predictable. The Thompson hill isn't quite long enough for 1 minute reps, last 10 seconds or so on the flat after it levels off but hardly a big deal. More important is that the entire thing got done, a solid effort throughout. Obnoxiously windy even for this time of year, gusts seemed to get worse as the workout wore on. 15 minute cooldown, very easy, not really able to lift legs any more at this point.
Tue 3/27 - PM 80 minutes very easy, River Street to Liberty, back via Main. Quite similar to yesterday's run in most respects, once again trudging along at an annoyingly slow pace. That's all there was. At least it was relaxed, very relaxed in fact. Postponing the workout a no-brainer. 5 AM wake-up left me bone tired, something I just don't need following the last few days of increased volume. Only sore spot left from last week's left side issues is in the anterior tib which is tight. Calves also sore, but that's from the race and will fade soon enough. Warmer temps today but persistent NW breeze, an odd combo which made proper dress a challenge.

Mon 3/26 - PM 85 minutes very easy, Summerhill to Area 51 and back via Old Marlboro. The duration was right where I wanted it to be, but the pace was painfully slow out of necessity. Feeling stupendously tired and flat, leaving me to trudge along. Not really a surprise after yesterday. Still some snow on the sheltered part of the patrol road.
