Spring 2001-older Pita entries

Monday, August 27, 2001 - 02:09 p.m.

This will be my last summer entry, seeing that summer break is now officially over. I didn't write a Pita entry last Monday because I was at the beach! My parents rented a house on Rehoboth Beach in Delaware. It was really cute and VERY cozy. Will and I got the living room sofa bed, and my parents and grandparents had bedrooms upstairs. Our schedule consisted of waking up at 10:30, dragging ourselves to the beach by 12. Will would swim in the water, I would walk around the edge and try to get in the water, but always feeling too cold and chickening out (until the last day ofcourse, I overpowered my mind and just ran in so that I couldn't feel a thing). Then we would make a big water hole and make the surrounding walls into a castle. It was so much fun playing in the sand with absolutely no worries. After that we had an early dinner and go on the boardwalk, shop at the outlets or go to a movie. After getting really tired from walking, more snacks, ice cream, and then pop in a tape into the VCR. Anyways, very relaxing, very beachy, perfect weather. I am very pleased with how my summer ended.

Monday, August 13, 2001 - 09:59 a.m.

Thursday I went to Montgomery Mall with Joe. He looked for a gift for Lily's birthday, while I looked for the sales. Joe got her a necklace, stuffed animal, candles, and is planning to make a card out of my construction paper. I got a t-shirt and Christmas cards for 75% off. I'm sure you can't wait until the Holidays now, so eager about seeing the cards. After the mall I took Joe to my house so that he could eat for free, then gave him one of my metro cards and sent him on his merry way :)

Friday night I picked up Lisa and actually drove myself (with her directions) to College Park for Jay and Dave's apt. #444 party. Pretty much everyone was there except Will. Yay, proof that I do stuff without my boyfriend.

Saturday I invited Lisa to one of my (John's) parties, too. She, in turn invited more girls (like I asked): Samra and Kiran (and Kiran's Glyeb). That party went pretty well also. It's too bad that I went home by 1am (when my mom wanted me home) and my parents got back around 1:40. I was home before my parents! The festivities lasted until 5. I should have just slept over...

Sunday Will came over to watch "Close Encounters: of the Third Kind". My Aunt's birthday part was right afterwards, so Will and I didn't get to talk at all. All I remember from Sunday is an annoying headache and a space movie.

Monday, August 6, 2001 - 11:27 a.m.

Usually I cheat when I write my pita entries - I just copy and paste a part of an email that I send to someone. Unfortunately, this week, I'm going to have to do the real thing.

Last week both Will and I had a bunch of family things to do, so we didn't get to see each other for a full week. I missed him :( but also felt a lot more independant :) and then bored :( and had a bunch of mood swings :S I think he's really good for me because he calms me down during those times. Even if it takes him forever, or I lash out at him too, he handles me well and doesn't give up. I think I'm making myself sound a little psychopathic, but.. eh. Oh, the possible reason (the one I'm going to blame) I've been moody this past week's been that I've been taking steroids for my poison ivy. My doc said that I shouldn't make any life changing decisions because it might be the medicine's fault. It's pretty cool, not only do I get to blame stuff on PMS, but my itchiness has gotten a lot better, too :)

Now, for what I actually did this weekend... Friday I went to synogogue for the first time in a number of years. This one was pretty casual, with 2 female rabbis. The reason I went is because my grandparents were trying to find some way to celebrate their 50 years together. They were called up on the platform and blessed. It was a nice thing to see. Saturday they had a 13 people dinner at their house with good food, dancing, and looking over photographs.

Saturday morning I hung out with Sary and Matt at Lakeforest. Sary's actually started buying and trying on clothing! Not only did I get a shirt for my birthday (which was way back in February - shows how much we see each other) but she actually bought clothing for herself (while I didn't)! Matt, being a guy, was bored. I felt a little bad about that, but he should have been prepared. Sunday I got to see Will, and we did pretty much nothing...

Currently work is a little more important to me (although I guess I'm not displaying that seeing that I'm should be working at this moment). In my final 2 weeks I'm getting more work than I have in the last 2 months. It feels good to have stuff to do, but now there are actual deadlines which make me a bit nervous. So, I should probably get to those things now...

Monday, July 30, 2001 - 09:11 a.m.

This weekend I spent relaxed. Friday night I watched "Planet of the Apes". I didn't really like the ending, but I can't think of a better one. Saturday Will and I hung out at the pool, and did dinner and a movie. We went to the Air and Space Museum in DC and watched "War of the Worlds" on the huge IMAX screen. It was pretty cool. It was also hilarious to watch that movie (made in '53) with all of the aerospace geeks (Will being one of them). A little scary how ignorant people were about the atom bomb back then. "If you're not wearing goggles, look away." Also some interesting depictions of women in hysterics. I was actually impressed by the quality of special effects (I was expecting a lot worse).

Will's parents are away on vacation this week, so we actually had some real privacy Saturday evening before his sister came home. It was a nice change of pace of hanging out in my basement with my parents and dog wandering around and being annoying. Also got to sleep together in a normal sized bed our first time.

Being lazy this week (not seeing Will till Sunday cause we both have family obligations), I rented some movies that I've always wanted to watch that everyone else has seen. Sunday I watched "How to Make an American Quilt" - chick flick. I can't exactly say that it was a quality movie, but it did make me think and appreciate what I have. Last night I watched "Traffic". I wasn't as impressed with it as I should have been because it'd been overhyped. I do think that the story of the 16 year old on drugs was done very well. Sometime later this week I'm going to watch a jew movie "Sunshine" about WWII. I'm also trying to meet Matt Weiss and Lisa for coffee sometime this week.. and go to the gym. Lisa's impossible to get in touch with, but I guess that I always try to call Mondays when she's in class. It's a bad pattern with me.

Monday, July 23, 2001 - 04:25 p.m.

I love DC101!!! Friday I won tickets to OZZFEST (a hard rock concert). Will and I went to Nissan Pavilion, which during rush hour ended up being a 2 hour drive. The way back was nicer - 40 minutes while getting lost 3 times. The concert was cool.. some of the bands were. If I liked that type of music I would have liked the concert a lot more ;) There was a lot of black, cut up clothing, wife beaters, and farmer tans. The men were all drunk and the women all looked trashy. There was even a dominatrix attraction where the men stood against a wooden X and 2 women beat them with whippy things. I enjoyed that while Will was in the bathroom. All in all, it was awesome winning tickets and both Will and I enjoyed it a lot (although for different bands).

From the same radio station, by email, today I won premiere tickets to "Planet of the Apes". The cool thing about this theater is the the screen is huge. For this movie, I'd say that's a definite plus. It's in DC, but it's 2 blocks from the metro and I still have my metro passes from work.. so it'll be cool. Also great to do something besides hang out next to my house or hang with our usual friends everytime we see each other.

Saturday I hung out with 2 Johns driving around and at the pool. In the evening, Lauren had a BBQ at her house (while her parents are on vacation). It was pretty funny when they called and said that they are coming back that night, 4 days early. It wasn't much of a problem, just relocated to Rob's place and had a good old time singing along to songs. Reminded me a bit of Russian movies - they always seem to have one guy playing the guitar and everyone else singing along quite poorly but merrily.

Sunday hung out at the pool with Will. Nice, relaxing. We finally did something during daylight.

Monday, July 16, 2001 - 03:47 p.m.

This weekend started off in limbo. Pat was supposed have a friend deliver free tickets to Will and me for Area One (Moby, Incubus, Paul Oakenfold, Outkast, The Roots...). At first the delivery was in jeopardy, now we dont' know whether we're supposed to pay Pat back for the tickets. Anyways, the concert was at Merriweather. Incubus was boring, we had lawn seats and the security was tight. Techno music had it's own tent, but there was a really long wait to get in, so we skipped it. Moby was excellent, with a band up on stage comprised from people from all of the world. He was very energetic and played a bunch of stuff from Play, and the good old stuff.

Saturday morning the visit to the pool and the games at the PCC with Will were cancelled due to his family circumstances. That evening his friend Cary had a birthday party, the festivities leading upto blowing up fireworks stuffed into trucks. We had a mini adventure blowing up the first one in the middle of the road and driving away in 5 cars. After I left (as well as many others) they built another destructive mechanism and blew it up in a better place. Fortunately although the cops followed them home, there were no confrontations no one got in trouble.

Sunday morning I started with a little bit of babysitting. After that, I went thrift store shopping with Kate and Lauren. I got some good stuff: 3 shirts, 1 skirt, 1 pair of earrings, all for ~$10. Also got some food - $4. I was almost late to my grandfathers birthday party, but everything turned out fine.

I have an 8th roommate in my apartment, Sarah. Maybe some day she will read this and see my "Welcome!"

Monday, July 9, 2001 - 02:54 p.m.

Last week was nice and easy workwise (a holiday right in the middle) but hard because of the lack of sleep. People usually think that you get more sleep on weekends because you can sleep in. For me, I get more sleep during the weekdays because I keep myself mostly on schedule. So, seeing as there were more non-work days, I've been pretty tired.

Anyways, 4th of July! A great holiday. Kids love it because of the fireworks. My dad loves it because of what it stands for. My mom loves it for the sales. For me, I turn emotional (cry, etc, don't know why). At 3, Lauren invited us to a BBQ at her house. We played a bit of frisbee and Scategories. Afterwards we went to the RM to see the fireworks show, and waited in the rain for an hour. The show was canceled and we went to Kate's house in Damascus where we played pool (billiards) and played in the pool :) July 5th Will came over and we finally got to see the fireworks, and I was able to move on.

Friday I saw "Scary Movie 2" with Will and had some Starbucks coffee in front of a pretty fountain in Rockville Town Center. It was actually a date feel - nice. The movie was funny, but not as good as the first one. I think it's because the concept is no longer unique.

Saturday I headed back to Kate's house for her annual party (that I missed last year). I thought it was her birthday, so when I was at the mall that day, I got her a gift. So i stopped by Will's house (it's on the way) and wrapped up the necklace. When I gave it to Kate, she happily accepted it. An hour later, I fully embarassed myself by giving her a birthday speech, at the end of which I found out that her birthday is in February! It's like a little conspiracy that no one bothered to mention the fact earlier.

Monday, July 2, 2001 - 02:43 p.m.

Thank you Lisa for planning the weekend camping trip.
Attendees: Lisa, Samra, Kiran, Alicia, Will, Jason, Matt, Glyeb, and me.

We came to the campsite late Friday night, set up the tents (a 8 people one and a 2 person - there were 9 of us) and talked until we were too tired to stand. On Saturday we made breakfast and went to play in the Rappahannok river. Then we came back and ate lunch, and after that went tubing. The tubing was supposed to take 4 hours, but I guess that you weren't supposed to do any walking or swimming while in it, just floating peacefully. That was a little hard to do when we saw lightning behind us and the wind picking up. When we were within 50 feet of the exit, a downpour started, and altough it would have been fun playing in the rain, we remembered that we left all of the food out and had to run back to hide it. Later that night we had more food and played card games.

For the food, Will made a menu, which we emailed out to all the people going on the trip. So, Will and I went to the grocery store where I spent $100 and everyone paid me back later.

Overall, the camping experience was a lot better than I expected. The only injury I got was a scratched toe, and it doesn't hurt at all when there's a band-aid on it. Altough, Jason was running and cut his knee pretty deep in (you could see muscle) and Samra managed to get a lot of small scratches.

Sunday morning lisa felt sick and had people drive her home. I was in the dreamy state, knowing that some people were awake, but didn't know that they were leaving that early (9am). So, the leftover people (5 of us) had more breakfast, played another game, and walked around in the river some more. Then, at 5, we decided to meet up at a restaraunt where one of the Alicia works, 50% off the price of food :), which was excellent, and then watched AI - which is pretty damn good too (reminiscent of ET). Then I ended up getting home at 11:20, damn tired, combined with the late bedtime was the 6 hours of sleep/night.. and I'll have to find a way to make up for all of that this week.

Monday, June 18, 2001 - 03:23 p.m.

Yay, I remembered to do this on a Monday. Maybe this means that I'm tired of working early?

On Friday Will and I went to a Sushi place. I prepared by printing out a list of 15 in the Rockville area. We ended up going to the one that was good, but one of the dirtiest/carry-out/fast-food sushi places I've ever seen. Also, Sheri was there with her mom :) Anyways, raw fish actually kept me full for the whole night too! After that we decided to go to Ariel's birthday party at Jay and Dave's apartment.

The party was cool - not too loud, not too boring. It felt good knowing most of the people there and chatting a bit. An unpleasant surprise was a UMCP cop showing up because someone pressed the panic button for the alarm. I almost had a heart attack, thinking that I was going to get another alcohol citation even though I didn't have much at all. The cop was cool and left soon after without any complaints. The other notable thing at the party was Dave and Ariel getting piss-drunk and laying on the balcony puking for a few hours. I was so worried about Ariel choking on his puke that I didn't fall asleep until 2 1/2 hours after everyone else, making sure he was still breathing and rolling him over on his side. Unfortunately enough, and this is still a mystery for multiple reasons, in the middle of the night Ariel jumped off the balcony (leaving his shoes and shirt behind) and drove home, without telling anyone. In the morning he woke up in bed and found his keys in the car ignition. And he remembers nothing.

Saturday morning we went to IHOP and then Joe came over. We had a nice craft-making session and did a little shopping. I also got to show off my photo album and ramble on about HS life.

Sunday morning mommy and I went shopping. Later on I tried to help her with some math. After that my family collected at my grandparents' house for Father's Day. I felt like none of the fathers felt like it was much of a holiday, but I hope to make up for that this summer being a good, appreciative little girl. Also sorted through the paintings that my mom decided to throw away and chose which ones I would be interested in putting up in the dorm. I'm pretty sure it'll be a unique and interesting look. Time to add some class to our previous nut house.

Friday, June 15, 2001 - 03:32 p.m.

I guess I keep writing this thing on Fridays, right BEFORE the fun stuff happens. Like on Monday I planned on writing a long entry for what I did last weekend, but I kept putting it off for so long that now I don't remember :(

Let's see... Monday was Will's birthday so I had to do something nice for him (sweet surprise parties pay off). Sunday (yeah, a day early) Will and I went to the PCC (Potomac Community Center) where we had a few hardcore games of air hockey, and slightly softer versions of ping pong and billiads (I'm bad at both of those, although this time i did better in pool). Afterwards we went to Rob's apartment, which I reserved and I cooked my first MEAL. I'm pretty proud of my shrimp main dish, and cappaccino-ish after dinner drink with raspberries and Russian candy :)

So, it was a nice evening, and a nice day, and I wish there were many more of those. It's really not all the difficult, but planning slightly out of the ordinary fun (not dinner & movie) seems to be hard and rare.

While at Rob's I got really cold because of the a/c and woke up sick the following morning. At work it's really freezing too, so my cold just wont end. It's been a full week of sickness and missing out on a number of fun evenings with friends. Arg! I just know that opportunities like that wont come up when I'm actually able to do them.

Trying to keep this entry a little shorter and sweeter, so I'll end now with a Happy Birthday Ariel!

Friday, June 8, 2001 - 03:30 p.m.

First entry of the summer! How exciting!

I figured that since I notice myself reading other people's pitas to find out what they're doing this summer instead of talking to them, I will try to keep my life up to date also.

Right now I am sitting in a cute little office at Lockheed Martin, my new place of work. I am an intern here, but the man who is supposed to train me to do my work is on vacation for the next 2 weeks. This usually leaves me to be passed off from one person to another... and currently, I'm between projects.

At home I'm still not done unpacking. And instead of doing so, I spend evening in pursuit of finding the one item I need for the next day. And by the time I find it, it's too late and I need to get to bed.

The fishies are finally happy. It seems as though my mom tried to kill them off while I left them in her care. Over spring break she was so excited about them that she didnt' want to give them back to me. This time the water was opaque and the fish stopped swimming and bobbed at the bottom of the bowl. Now back in my hands, they are happy kissy little things again.

Socially I haven't caught up with too many people yet. On my little vacation I hung out with 10 other people, so that was nice. At home I've only hung out with Will (and his HS friends) and that's about it. I've called Vicky, and returned Lisa's call. I've also emailed Sary and responded to all email from others. Tonight I'm hanging out with Rob, Lauren, Kate, and Will. Tomorrow I'm lunching with Mikail who's back from California - could be interesting.

Anyways, apparently I can take certification classes online in my free time, so I should probably go do that now. Signing off for now.
