Aftermath of the Gig @ Expo
Tuesday, August 23, 2005 09:16 a.m.
Yesterday's event was quite a disaster for Ecliptica but we managed to play through without wrecking the songs too much. Reached Expo and found out that we were playing outdoors, right next to a Jazz Pub. Ooookay, so we're playin outdoors.. no big deal right? Drew lots and came out number 3, right after Rise. Wasn't too bad either, we usually prefer that slot. Was warming up and preparing when Rise went up on stage. When they went down shortly after, I knew that something was wrong.. true enough, something screwed up so they weren't able to perform. That meant that we were up next. FUCK. Suddenly a tidal wave of panic hit me, just as I was preparing to go up on stage. The usual symptoms of stage fright.. mouth went dry, heart rate doubled, nervousness crept up on me. I swear, it was almost as if someone had cast a panic spell on me right at that moment. But we went up anyway and did our thing and i guess we did an average job.. which was a consolation but it didn't do well to satisfy my expectations.. so yea, that was that.

Next few bands played and I think that I should credit DJ Party Band, Elysium, Marionette & Lucify on a job well done. Way to go guys =) In between there was a short birthday song for Emerson and Wenjie which was quite funny. Apologies to Marionette for fooling around during their set. Sorry guys, the atmosphere was too dull and we had to lighten the mood a bit XD Well, I guess this will most likely be the last time that we will be solely play Jrock songs. Will be moving on to play more english rock and metal, something which we have been wanting to do for some time. Pity that we couldn't go out with a bang but hey, you don't always get what you want right?

=======

Yup, its confirmed that my band will be playing in this event. So I hope that you can give us your suppport =) Will be unable to go for Natsu Matsuri this year. Seems like most of the gang are giving it a miss also.. either coz of preperation for the gig or other commitments. Come to think of it, we'll be celebrating Natsu Matsuri in a different way =P Hopefully we can still have a mass gathering like we used to back in the old days. Sheesh.. i'm starting to sound like an old man liao §-___- Ok, next post will be after the gig. Lookin forward to seeing you guys there.

What a Rush...
Thursday, August 4, 2005 12:11 p.m.
Went down on Sunday to see ivan's band perform. Quite a few bands were performing too.. the more notable ones being LGF, dB & One Buck Shot. Managed to win a pack of guitar strings which was presented by the DB guitarist (i think). Rushed down to Orchard (nearly killing myself of asthma in the process) and got 2 Great White albums.. Great Zeppelin (a live Led Zeppelin tribute album) as well as Latest & Greatest (best album) before the 15% discount at Borders ended. Coincidentally spotted the vocalist and guitarist of dB there too. Discussed with Sakuya about makin Sex Machineguns jerseys.. looks like i'll have to recce this sat or sun for the prices and stuff.

Currently blogging from the office.. work has been hectic, with superiors chewing my ass out every chance they get. Juz got a call from ed and he told me about an upcoming gig on 21st August that we _may be_ playing. Damn.. given the current situation of time constraints, it looks like we're gonna have to play back our old setlist. Here's the link for you guys that are interested.

Tentative Band Lineup

To those that have seen us before at D'J Party: We apologise if the setlist is gonna bore you coz its the same.

To those who have yet to see us play: We'll do our best not to let you guys down..

Recent Reflections

Ok, due to the fact that my Pes status has been upgraded, it has been announced that I will be going back to Tekong for BMT on 10 Oct to 25 Nov.. CB! This is just what I needed.. a trip back to that god forsaken island §-___-ll On a side note, I've been listening to the people around me pass their comments on the whole NKF thingy so here's my 2 cents as well. Firstly, if the CEO _did_ misuse the funds and use them for his own luxury, then he definitely had this coming. However, most people seem to be mainly concerned about showing their anger towards the CEO and the board who have misused their funds. Nothing wrong there.. but did anyone think that all the negative talk about NKF wouldn't really do much to hurt Durai at all? Sure, you can say that his reputation is tarnished but at the end of the day, he's still got more money than most of the people who are griping about the matter. We fail to see that the ones who are being hit the hardest by the backlash are not Durai, his board or the foundation itself but the kidney, cancer and the many other patients who require the funds for their treatments. When the donations stop coming in, the patients are the ones who are going to suffer and the organisation's efforts would have been for nought coz it all goes back to square one. Besides.. since the government is stepping in to reshape the organisation, things should get better now. So please do spare a thought, even if it is a little one, for the people who are dependant on the many charitable contributions of the public. And to the inconsiderate people who had the nerve to pester the staff to get their 10+ dollar donations back, here's a big FUCK YOU straight from me to you guys. You know who you are.

Winamp Playin: The Beatles - I've Got A Feeling

Ok peeps, i'm back once again after a short hiatus. Met up with Akane Jojo, Chris, Alpha and Yukina who were waitin for me at AMK mrt station.. didn't help that I arrived kinda late §>__< We headed to Downtown East via bus and chatted about the upcoming event. Akane Jojo and Yukina went to change first while i waited outside.. didn't change into my costume coz it was kinda hot and i was missing my wig which was with Kyoka who was at Rox's house.. well, you get the idea §-___- While i was waiting for Kyoka to arrive, i spotted zer0 at one of the booths and hopped over to get the Iron Maiden pendant tat i was saving up for as well as the pendant that Ambri wanted to get (58 bloody bucks he owes me..). When Kyoka finally arrived, the two of us headed into the toilet to change. It must have seemed like eternity coz i was stuck helping Kyoka put on his costume while i was in costume.. needless to say that it was freakin hot. Helped David (Dante) out with his costume too but Kyoka's one was proving to be a bitch for him to put on.

Winamp Playin: The Beatles - Get Back

Midway I headed back in to pass Sakuya (Anbu Kiba) the wakizashi and walked around abit.. before running into Lennon who was quite surprised to see me in the whole getup. Chatted with him abit n posed with Akane Jojo (Kuro Ky Kiske) for some shots. Walked around and ran into Joanne, Kuek, Victor, Emerson, Zhiwei and Wawa who couldn't recognize me at first (then again most people didn't at first glance). Some notable highlights were the Shaman King cosplayer (Bokuto no Ryu), Ivan the Leopardman (Gaara), the Star Wars bunch (some of them were holding the official replica of the lightsaber), Julia and Dan (cosplayin characters from Deathnote), The Fantastic 4 (3, rather), the Bleach group and the sudden appearance of Freddy Kreuger, Batman and Predator. No you're not reading it wrong, there WAS a guy in a Predator suit walking around and he was nothing short of attention grabbing. The minute he walked in, people rushed towards him to get photos and videos of the 1.8m Predator. The details of his costume were pretty accurate.. I'd say about 95% accurate. Heck he even had the actual face mask of the Predator beneath when he took off the metal one. There was a short 'fight' with Batman and the Predator which lasted about a few minutes before they shook hands XD The most hilarious thing about it all was that while they were 'fighting', there was some jpop songs being played at the stage (as one of the teams was doin some performance on stage) so it seemed kinda comical at the moment.

If Wenjie is reading this (in which case he probably isn't coz he's too damn lazy to read blogs) EAT YOUR HEART OUT! TOO BAD U MISSED THE PREDATOR COZ U WERE PROBABLY SITTING ON YOUR BUTT PLAYING COMPUTER GAMES AT HOME MUAHAHAHAHA XD~

Winamp Playin: Gary Moore - Enough of the Blues

The rest of the event was spent walking around and posing for some of the cameras.. wanted to take some pics with David but both him and Kyoka had already changed out of the costume. Ran into Shiro and asked him to get some pics of me and Sakuya before we ourselves got out of the costumes. Ran into Eiji juz after I had changed out of the costume. The look on her face was priceless when she realised tat she had missed seeing me in costume XD Joined Akane Jojo, Yukina, Kyoka, Chris, Victor, Ivan, Kuek, Joanne, Shiro and Sakuya for dinner at Mac. We went out seperate ways after dinner, with me playing abit of arcade games with Victor and Sakuya making my way home. Overall it was quite a fun event although I would have liked to take more pics with some of the guys who were cosplaying. I'll probably leave that to another time, if there's a photoshoot at all. I guess i'll be signing off here so in the words of a famous babi.. "That's All Folks!"

Winamp playin: Skid Row - Youth Gone Wild

Phew.. what a day. Got up early to go back to camp to do the final preperations before waiting for the worst. Fortunately it didn't come, so I went back home to get changed and warm up a bit for later.

Got down to Youthpark and saw alot of familliar faces.. Sakuya styling hair, Issami and zer0 selling their stuff and a few others cosplaying. Got together with the band and discussed some final changes before warming up again. The weather didn't help much coz I was already sweating before going up on stage. When we went up on stage, Ah Long managed to get the crowd to come closer which was a really big help. We kicked off the set with Juice and I was kinda surprised that the crowd was responding more than usual, so I thought to myself "time to have some fun" XD and did my best to work up the crowd. We followed Juice up with Dreams and stopped for a short while to intro the next song.. 18 & Life. Wenjie did his thing, playing the special intro and the crowd cheered for him when I shouted his name. I guess this song was the real highlight of the list coz I could hear alot of them cheering for us. I almost burned up all the energy I had after this song and it was sweltering on stage but still pushed on. Introduction of the band was up before playing the next 2 songs, Hakanai Diamond and Cum With Me. Too bad bish was at the back when we were playing Cum With Me or I would have done that wanking action with him when singing the chorus XD Saw Iris' eyes start to tear up and was kinda puzzled but continued singing (I later found out that it was actually tears of joy that we doing so well on stage). Finally our last song.. 1/3 no Junjouna Kanjou. This was a real crowd pleaser as alot of people recognized the song even though they didn't know the title. So that was it.. I guess the time put into preperation for this gig really paid off.. but it was also largely due to the support and cheers from everyone in the crowd that made the difference and we really appreciate it.

IF YOU WERE IN THE AUDIENCE AND IS READING THIS RIGHT NOW, WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK U FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND FOR MAKING IT ALL WORTHWHILE =)

Winamp playin: Skid Row - Monkey Business

After we left the stage I went over to see my friends and relatives who came down. Took a long rest at the tentage area coz I was kinda short of breath.. even had to use tat blue inhaler which I rarely use on normal days. Missed Elysium and Marionette's band performance.. thousand apologies to you guys. After I had gotten my breath back I walked around and talked with some of my other friends.. stayed till the end which was around 8 or 9 when Wenjie, Alfe, Emerson, Alan and Zhiwei went up to do the closing act. They played Oh Japan by TMG, One by B'z and The Nepenthes by L'Arc~en~Ciel. Went to eat at Cine before heading back home earlier than usual. I guess we managed to pull it off, although we made a few mistakes but it worked out well. Time for a well deserved break.. §-.- {zzzzz)

Preparing for Stressfest
Saturday, May 28, 2005 10:14 a.m.
Winamp playin: Sonata Arctica - My Selene

Ok time for some shameless advertising..

My band, Ecliptica, will be performing for the D'J Party event at Streetfest on 4th June 05 (Sat) at Youthpark. The D'J Party is a Japanese oriented event to promote Japanese sub culture by featuring cosplays as well as Japanese influenced bands playing cover songs and originals. My band will be playing at 4.30 p.m. so please do come and support if you can. Thanks =)

Winamp playin: Skid Row - I Remember You

Stress at work is causing more pimples to pop up on my face. Dammit! That's one of the last things that I need when the gig is already so close. Kinda crazy when you're one person doing the job of 2 people and having the big boss expect that you can pull it off when the phone never stops ringing and the shit never stops piling up to the ceiling §-______-

Wishes in the Night
Sunday, May 22, 2005 07:44 a.m.
Winamp playin: Rob Halford - Made in Hell [Live]

Back again. Yesterday's jamming didn't go as smoothly as we had hoped for with the usual screw ups. Alfe came over for a while to record a bit.. kinda pissed at myself for screwing up what would have almost been a perfect take of 18 and Life §>___< Went to town and rotted with Joanne, Ivan and his gf, Ed and his gf, Wenjie, Iris and Sakuya.

Sonata Arctica - The Boy Who Wanted To Be A Real Puppet

So many years ago, many more than I'd
Even care to bear in my mind
From the darkest of all places I found you

All the limbs in their right places
And a heart made of real gold
Sell me your little doll, oh sir, I ask you kind

Every night I returned to watch them
The master and the puppet in the show
He said: "Oh, no, I cannot sell him...
Priceless he is, masterpiece of mine"

Please, sell me your puppet, sir
Name your price, oh please,
Whatever you may ask,
Tenfold the price I pay

"Did I not make it clear?
This debate is over
I will never part from this puppet, my son..."

With hungry eyes I followed them all night
The blind master and the puppet he had made
"No, sir, to sell is not my will!"
The doll is mine, even if I have to kill...

So it shall be... if this is what it takes
"Greed is truly blinder than me..."
"Heart of gold is what you wish for?"
"So, this little boy... wants to be... a puppet, for real..."

So I have the golden heart
Now only needing the voice of the master
Never feel hunger, never grow older
My dream was to be a star in a real puppet show

It's so hard to remember my life
The times before the show
Can I ever cut off the strings?
"Take a bow, now dance and sing..." (Sing!)

Would you turn to a child again?
"No, never, I am your Guide"
You can see a small grin on the face
Of the master, when the puppet's in his place

Be careful what you wish for
Wishes might come alive
The twines are pulling me every day and night...
The show, the glitter and all the fame
I'd give away for a life
Some things can end with a word, they say
This only ends with a sharp knife (Knife!)

When I first looked at the lyrics of this song, it made me think of something that I had been wondering about for some time. Why the hell are some singaporeans so desperate for the fame? I guess most of them are not aware that the glamour and the glitter hide something that's vicious and unforgiving. Not that I would know any better but that's what I think of it anyway. The media world is not a thing to be taken lightly. Sure people say that they wouldn't mind going for it but at what cost? Your privacy? Your precious time with your friends and loved ones? Like what the above lyrics say.. "Be careful what you wish for.. Wishes might come alive" I'm not trying to deter anyone from persuing their dreams but c'mon people, do take some time to analyse all the aspects of something before jumping straight into it. Also strip dancing in front of a camera to get attention does not make you look good, it just shows how much of a fuckin moron you are §-_____-

Back From the Dead...
