Wow, almost the end of the month! Heh heh, I just swam my way through (net)traffic to get a free legitimate version of winrar offered by the company, just for today. XD
And in response to Justin's Herbal Essences tip, I got mine a while ago too! XD And I don't know why, but I was able to click on other coupons and get those too. Heh heh, I got a dollar off a Swiffer Duster. XD But anyway, yea, it is true, you can get a bottle (note: it's a regular bottle) of the shampoo (or conditioner?) for free. What they mail you is actually a coupon, and you just go anywhere to redeem it. :D
Umm, what else was I gonna say, yes, I recently saw P&P and it was good. XD I quite like it and am glad that it overall didn't disappoint me. There are things that I don't quite like about it, but overall, I'll say it is an enjoyable film. :D
Also saw The Incredibles, finally. XD And I like it too! My fav chara in there is E, whom I've been told is a lot of people's favourite as well. :D But urm yea, I didn't know she was voiced by the director (a guy!). XDD Wish she had more screen time though, I really like her attitude, it's funny. :D
What else what else.. umm, I recently ate at
味千拉麺 トロント店, and even though people say their noodles are small for the prices they offer, I don't find it so. The portion is really quite large. But then again, maybe it's because I'm not used to eating big meals. However, I do find it a little pricer than what I'm used to, or would've liked. ^^;; The food is quite good though, in my opinion. I'll have to go again another time to try out other dishes. :) Their menu is quite extensive. :9
That's it for today (and this month too most likely), thx for reading and bye!

I have just had my second bad hair-cutting experience. I don't think I want to go out and see the world until I grow some hair back first. The best analogy I can think of right now is a strawberry... T_T I guess a good thing about it is that with the hot weather, I won't have hair stuck to my neck anymore, and I probably won't shed as much hair now when it comes to washing.
But, urm... yea. I don't like it. The thing is, I wanted it short, b/c of the weather, but not this short, and definitely not this "style". T_T Maybe with time, and when it grows a little longer, I'll get used to it. :T
Hearing that people I know have gone on a trip, or are about to go on a trip, or just planning to go out of the country makes me jealous~~~ In a way, it kinda depresses me too, because I want to go on a trip too, but I have this goal where I want to earn some money first before taking a vacation. That's why I never offer to go with others when they are planning their grad trip ideas, even thou they are going to the same places that I want to go to. Another thing is, althought I am genuinely happy for them that they can go, I often look back at myself at why I bother holding back? People keep saying this time is the best time for a vacation, but in my mind, I just... can't.
I know this kind of attitude has its problems... but ... Okay, I think I'll just stop here coz I don't think I like where my train of thoughts is going. So yea, this entry is pretty depressing in general, but that's how I've been lately.. trying to job search can get that to you, so don't mind me and I'll be back when I feel more up to it. *wave*
Browser war?
Wednesday, July 12, 2006 - 01:31 a.m.
I've been unhappy about the FF memory leaks, or memory "features", whatever they want to call it, because I have very little RAM for it to play with. Whenever I open lots of tabs, the RAM usage would crank right up and they don't seem to release the memory it allocated for those tabs.
According to some info I read, as well as based on my own experience, by some time later, enough VM would get used up and the OS would get really busy just swapping files back and forth. So I ended up having to wait for the swapping to be done to do anything else. It slows everything down and makes my comp gets really hot. Whenever it gets hot, the fan would run really loud and that gets me worried.
That happened enough time that it has started to annoy me. So today, I went and tried to find solutions. I tweaked the FF configuration a bit so it would release some ram when I minimize it. It is still not optimal, but I suppose that's better than nothing.
You may think, maybe I should just migrate back to IE, but I'm too accustomed to certain controls FF give me with surfing so I went to the next best alternative, Opera.
I knew of this browser way back when it was still urm.. shareware? I think that's what it was. But eventually it went free, so now I can use it and keep it on my comp. So far the experience is a little confusing. The loading time is a little slow for webpages, and I think that has something to with our connection and hopefully not the browser. What I like is the stickyness (when scrolling) with FF is gone, and the start up time is much faster. I do miss some of the extensions I have on FF thou. The memory usage is okay, but I haven't given it a good test yet, so we'll see what happen. I wish there's more room for customization thou. Maybe I just haven't found out the way to do it yet.
But alas, I think this is a promising alternative, I just need to remember which sites I want to open in FF and which in Opera and I'll be good to go.
Anyway, time to go offline, goodbye!

I added something to the bloggy today. :P Let's see if anyone finds it. It shouldn't be difficult, since it is quite obvious where it is. :P I put some of my grad pics there too, but you would have to join "it" and I'd have to friend you to see, otherwise, you'll just see the chair. :P
Zzzzz....

Very sleepy... so I'll go after this. -- I realized that I missed something with the virus/spyware scan, so I again spent the entire day checking things here and there. And to make my head explore even more, I expanded the compy maintenance to my other compy, so there was more waiting and rebooting and scanning. :(
I think overall, both comps are relatively okay now. But I'm not done yet, there's some stuffs I want to do still, so I'll be at it again tomorrow. :X Which brings me to one of my frustrations lately, which is, this cleaning up (or house cleaning?) of the comp consumed so much of my attention that I've neglected and thus kept putting off the job hunting I should be doing. Bah.. I wonder, if my compy weren't so ancient, would I get to save a great deal of time? I think it would... at the very least, it probably wouldn't take that long to reboot and launch certain programs. :T
Another annoyance, which I've just discovered in the last while, is the new windows live mail from msoft. :X Since a long time ago, I pretty much avoid using hotmail in anyway possible, because I didn't like going there to just delete spam and to catch the very rare emails from some ppl I know who only communicate with me via there. I also don't like MSN opening IE for it because I don't like seeing the ads. But for a short while recently, it sort of turned around and was decent in getting spam to the junk folder, so I was more inclined to check that email more often.
However, ever since it got off the windows live mail beta, it suddenly seems like their spam filters revert back to their early days selves. Spams are appearing in my inbox instead of the junk folder now. -__-++++ I certainly hope that'll be fixed soon. Because, due to my very infrequent logons, I tend to accumulate a lot of spams in the junk folder, and since about 80% of those that used to get marked as junk are now arriving in the inbox instead, I'll definitely not look forward to having to tread through hundreds of spam emails to find the one and two msgs that are indeed intended for me. And I think I speak for most people when I say I don't want to get notified of new mails on MSN when they're actually spam either....
Anyway, rant done. Here comes sleep... e_e/
ikea summer sale!
Wednesday, July 5, 2006 - 02:59 a.m.
*_* I got
this for really cheap, and I saw
this going for 120$. It was such a difference from the chair I have! Very comfy. I would've so wanted it if I actually needed a chair. *_* But sadly (and luckily for the pocket book I suppose), no one in the house needed an extra chair either, so I'll just be writing about it here instead. :P But let it be said that I would've bought it if I had the money and the need. :P And it was probably
this that was quite heavily discounted too. It would fit so well as a presentable TV chair! XD These chairs are all so very very comfy. I think it's the foam inside, if only they make their mattresses with the same kind of material. ^^;
Whenever I go to Ikea, I tend to gravitate towards couches, chair, bookcases, and clothing storage things, coz those are the things I more or less want. Either that, or I just get tired from walking around so it is a nice relief to have soft chairs/couches to sit on. :P But yes, this time around I went to see if they have discounts on the wardrobe I wanted since last year. Turns out the price is still around the same, and it is unlikely that the package would fit in the car, so I have decided to wait again. And of course, I still need to decide what to do with my current broken clothing drawers first. So I guess it would be some times before I will actually go and buy it. At least I can be safe to assume that the model would probably still be around for a bit, so I can wait. :)
As I've told some ppl already, for the last two days I've been fighting something that infected my compy "partially". I don't really know what it is, but there wasn't just one thing. It started with one, but ended up ballooning into several. Trojan, adware, spyware, all were there, but also weren't there fully, hence "partial". It was purely my own doing that compy got infected, because I kinda gave all my trust to the antivirus proggy and it didn't manage to pick it up, even thou I was suspicious beforehand and did a scan already. :T My residing firewall picked up on something trying to access the internet, so I was able to begin the road to recovery: delete and destroy. And then finally antivirus did its work when the "malware" started to infect... so it stopped it from infecting further, but that was not before my IE was tampered with. :/
So basically, long story short, I ended up having to download a bunch of system programs to check things. A lot of time was spent on scanning, just because I have so much junk on my comp. These junks are evergrowing, and all the time spent really put it in perspective. Goes to show I should really stop downloading, period. So after numerous scans with many programs, and some painstaking registry deletions, I'm hoping my comp is relatively clean now...
Things I learnt:
1. Turns out I could save quite a bit of space from turning off system restore. But the work that has to be done before it could be turned back on...... >_>
2. Antivirus doesn't always work. :T
3. Nor can adaware fix all my (compy's) problems....
4. It took more than half a day of nonstop scanning, and still not done! _-_|||
5. I really need to buy some cds and burn off a load.
Things I'm glad about:
1. This didn't happen on the school night, with papers or tests or quizzes due....
2. Online forums, articles, people who had the same thing happened to them, and people who gave solutions are my saviours.
3. Compy wasn't severely infected to the point of no path to recovery.
4. Spyware Doctor is my new friend. Yes, I know it's er... strange to call a piece of software my friend, but.. what can you do? It helped fill some holes left by my usually trusty system monitoring programs. :T and while I'm at it, I'm also on the lookout for a nice free antivirus for use as double check/backup. If anyone can rec one for me, that'll be wonderful!
Okay, I'm out. Zzzzz....
kuu is obviously a creature born sometime ago.
Its exact date of existence amuses itself greatly.
But kuu itself deems this unnecessary information for the prying public.
Hence will forever be unknown to the unknowing.
This writer likes to point out that kuu has an alter ego over
here at CocaCola.
kuu's nature is rather mean, but does pretend*ahem*attempt to be nice most of the time.
It is made of water, mostly blue, and has orange spots.
It is also short and round with a big head.
Too bad the head size does not correspond with any kind of smarts.
kuu likes colours and pretty things, and dislikes all manners of messyness.
As always, it needs to clean its room and do well in school, but things just don't always work out the way it wants it to be.
kuu is not reachable for comments by any normal means, unless you have special knowledge of its other virtual or real selves.

The "family" (haha!) above is from Tada Kaoru-sensei's last manga
Itazura na Kiss. An excellent excellent source of information regarding the manga can be found
here. As well as the reason why this is the last manga from the mangaka. I tend to treat this manga with respect because of that. And althou it's end is like that, I am glad it is able to end with a world of possibilities.
Tada-sensei's drawing style isn't the prettiest. In fact, it looks to be from such an early era that one may even be turned off by it. However, I simply just adore the story. It is probably the first manga that brought me to tears just by reading the synopsis.
It is very much a typical shoujo story, with a guy who is quite a catch, and a less than average girl pining after him. XD But the best part is it didn't just end at the usual happily ever after. What happened after is much sweeter than the first half. How I wish there is a Naoki for me. :3 Through laughters and tears, you can't help but like/love everyone in the story. Hence the reason why I didn't single out anyone in the picture.
Itazura na Kiss, or ItaKiss, as I tend to call it, ended its run in 1999. It has 23 volumes, both JP and Chinese editions are out. Do give it a read if you can find it. :)
