responding... - 01:46 p.m.

a few questions was asked, so here's a few answers:
1) was it this series or another bakery series?
Yes. It is the same one. And DMP is an awesome publisher. They publish nice BL or BL-ish stuffs. Same publisher as Sono Yubi book you have.

2) this beauty is the beast comic, it's the one featured in your layout right? what's it about?
Yes to former. And Wanichin is pretty hawt. (for a 2 dimensional character :P) As for the latter, go read the Kiss link I have in my blurb about the layout. That site is really a semi-collective about Matsumoto Tomo sensei's works. I believe it has a summary of what this series is about. I won't bore you with my poor description skills, so run along and go read yo! :p

3) is it something like beauty and the beast?
Urrr.. hmmm... umm... No.. don't think so. It's more like a (really) simple minded girl(ditz?) and a worldly guy whom other guys just love(envy) and hate(jealous coz they can't be him) him. People usually think he's scary but he's not. And she's food crazy. Really.

---

Coming up: Howl's Moving Castle. And we should go read books in Chapters sometimes. It's cheap(free) and it's a good way to waste time. And there's also air-con! Man, it is so bad of me to want to take advantage of freebies like this. I must refrain and wait................ >.> or just buy. :P

nya~ - 01:28 p.m.

I don't like Froot Loops. Just like this other infamous prisoner in Iraq... >.> But I'm sure plenty of people in this world don't like it either, so that isn't telling anything. But I'm glad someone else doesn't like it, so I'm not weird after all. :P You know, I always thought it was Fruit Loops, but I guess they're right to make that name.. Since there really isn't anything fruity about the cereal except for the fact that they smell artificially fruity. >.> And obvious artificial fruityness in anything edible is just something I can't stand. Ha, so there. :P

TV docs - 02:56 a.m.

Children Full of Life

It was late and I was channel surfing with nothing better to do while waiting for sleepyness to come, and I came across this documentary on CBC Newsworld. The first thing that caught me was the Japanese speaking, wanted to see how much I can actually listen and understand (answer: not much at all). :PP But then, as I watched further, I realize this is actually a pretty interesting doc.

I was only able to watch the last half hour or so of this documentary, and I came out feeling glad that such teacher exist for children in this time and age. Kinda made me wish I had such learning environment when I was small, someone to steer children to care about others and learn what's right and wrong.

Back when I was in HK, my own childhood was consisted of much schooling and studying. I remember going to library a lot, grabbing whatever books that looked interesting, going to the daycare/tutoring place to do more studying and preparing for school, and then the actual school itself. I don't think I had much interaction with other kids really. Maybe that's why it's so hard for me to open up to people. :T I'm just not really a people-person.

But even with that, I'd like to think my childhood was okay, I don't remember ever feeling bored or anything missing. So when I saw this doc, I realized that there is so much more that children should be learning at a young age! Things like standing up for others, not to be afraid to speak up, be considerate, learn to cope, and stuff like that. Even if they may not learn, then at least they should be aware of them, so when they grow up, these lessons could be remembered to guide them through life. I don't remember I was ever taught or told of anything like that, I think a lot of what I learn on what is and how to be a good person came from the books I read. So, to see that such teaching exists in some part of the world, made me feel less cynical about children and their future life as adults.

(Maybe it's just a HK Chinese thing that such things aren't taught, but I can't compare coz I only had one elementary year here and that was grade 8, when everyone was expected to be pretty 'mature' by then I think... :T But I digress, the bottomline is, I personally feel that children at a young age could benefit a lot from these kind of teaching because they're still at that learning how to behave phase.)

I think, anyone who's a teacher or a parent should watch this, (it's an award winning doc yo!), it shows what kind of values children could start learning when they're small, so they would hopefully all grow up to be decent human beings. Granted, I know some of these kids probably won't remember this grade 4 class, (since I personally don't remember much from my grade 4 year :p), but I'm sure it is definitely a good thing for these children to have this experience.

Wish I could've caught the entire documentary, hope CBC will show it again sometime, so I can tape it or something. :)

new (not really?) manga - 01:03 a.m.

OMG! *_* Beauty is the Beast will be released by Viz in November! This is such good news. I can now "persuade" people to go read it. Ahem ahem. :P Didn't see any official news on Viz's website yet, nor did I know that it was (or was going to get) licensed, but I hope this news source I got it from is right. *_*

yo! - 01:42 p.m.

icon-opinion ness: (for karin, since she asked)
I think it's a successful attempt at rejuvenating your creative design-ness. :) I like the fading darkness, it highlights/contracts the face very well, and I feel it's quite fantasy movie like. You're right that adding something may distract you from the calm. However, it does feel a little, very slight, plain. Not that I think it is bad, I very much like the icon as it is now. But, to give some balance to the lower right black corner, you could cosider an appropriate size square grid that is glowing in gold? Glowing, but very subtle as well, so not to take attention away from the face. Maybe in a dull and dark mud brown. It doesn't have to cover the entire black area, but just a little, enough to give some quiet action to the pic. If not that, maybe a border would do it justice?

anime expo - 12:45 p.m.

Seki Tomokazu and Sakamoto Maaya will both be in Anime Expo! *_* I wish I could be there! Van and Hitomi! The very first anime that I liked! *_*

Althou, I don't know if I wanted to go through the bad hygiene convention attendees tend to have again. One Anime North was already too much for me.... >.> Plus I don't watch Anime anymore, so why would I go when I no longer know anything that they may show in the con.... :/

Someone says kuu?
kuu is obviously a creature born sometime ago. Exact date of creation will forever remain unknown for the unknowing. kuu itself deems this unnecessary information for the prying public. It does have a gender, but that is not necessary to know as well.

What this writer can tell you is, it has an alter ego who works for CocaCola over here. Its nature is rather mean, but does pretend to be nice most of the time. It is made of water, is blue, and has orange spots, just like its alter ego. Oh, it's also short and fat with a big head.

Is it smart? No, but it'd like to be. As told in the space before this, it likes colours and pretty things, but dislikes school and mess. Current express priorities are to clean its room and do well in school, just like all responsible beings around here.

kuu is not reachable for comments by any normal means, unless you have previous knowledge of its other selves/alter egos.

Layout?
The "hot?" guy above and beside is Wanibuchi Takami from Matsumoto Tomo sensei's current manga Bijo ga Yajuu (in English, Beauty is the Beast). Not a very well known manga, but the mangaka is better known among English manga fandom for her previous manga, a 8 volume series called Kiss. There is an excellent fansite over here dedicated to her works.

The guy above has a nickname, Wanichin, which roughly means alligator-chin. Though this picture probably doesn't do it justice, I do think this guy is pretty hot, by manga standard. :D It's the way he is drawn! *o* He's cool and a bit of an outcast in the dorm he stays in (because almost everyone in the dorm are jealous that he's so much cooler than them). They either (try to :P) taunt him or avoid him altogether. But he's actually a good person who just doesn't care to correct how others see him. :P Anyway, he's hot! *.*

Bijo ga Yajuu is currently running at LaLa monthly magazine from Hakusensha. (But it looks to be ending soon; there is a climax on the LaLa Feb 2005 issue. Although, the "last chapter" words doesn't appear on the preview blurb.) So far, it is published up to vol.4 in Japanese, and vol.3 in Chinese.
