student loans - 04:05 p.m.

We've been receiving these electronic-voice phone calls from this CBCL place, and since they NEVER explicitly state what they do, nor do they state WHO they're calling for, and the only way to find out is to call them back, we treat it as some form of phone harassment and never bother to call them back.

So I was bored today and since I was googling about spam phone #s that I receive in my cell (and btw: 18008319519 and 4163060046 are spam #s. If you get caller ID and see these 2 #s, don't answer), I decided to do a little research into what exactly is call(harassing)ing us for oh.. the past year or so.

Turns out, it maybe due to my OSAP payment thingy that the government screwed up. -_- And now I(and my family) are suffering for it! _-_ The story goes like this: I was on break for this past fall semester right? And due to the nature of the osap repayments dates, I only had to pay 1 month of loans before I go back to school again. And I was supposed to hand in the no-interest form to the osap people at Januaury so that they would know I was back in school and would stop asking me for payment and stop adding interest until I get out of school again. I did that, filled in the form right at the beginning of Jan when I got back to school, gave it to UT's finanicial aids office, and they were supposed to take care of the rest and have my loan status back to like a student in school.

However, somehow somewhere someone screwed up and the osap people never updated my status. So they were seeing me as skipping payments during most of the whole winter semester. Since I wasn't suppose to make anymore payments after I handed in the form notifying them that I was back in school, I didn't pay anymore! And that's around the time when those phone calls start coming. FINALLY, around the time when school was almost done, like end of April, the osap ppl decided to call me to tell me that I was skipping payment, and I call them back and say that I did hand in the "I am back in school" notification back in JANUARY!!!! *fumes* And that they should double check the stuffs I handed in! After some digging on their part, the person there did see I handed in the notice and proceed to call some other people to fix my status.

Now that my status is right again, I'm still receiving these phone calls (morning, afternoon, weekend afternoon, I can almost perdict when they would call), and I have no idea how to stop it (except for calling them back?) or what they want. If they're trying to collect $$ for the months that they thought I was skipping payments, well then they shouldn't. Because there was nothing I should pay off at that time to begin with, if everything went the way it was supposed to.

I found out today they're prolly student loans collectors from this forum here. But seriously, I shouldn't even be getting these phone calls to begin with. I paid my first payment, and they sucessfully collected it. And I followed protocol and did what I was supposed to do to get my loan payments back into hermit mode. It wasn't me who screwed up, I wasn't supposed to pay anymore while I'm still enrolled in school. BUT, these people still keep calling several times a week, week after week. I'm pretty sure I'm not owing anybody anything right now, not until after I graduate. So what am I to do?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!! What do these ppl want from me?!! *arrrrr*

Anyway, this is mostly a reference entry for the future. So I know where to look for info about student loans when I get out of school.

And this is re-enforcing my idea to find some ways to pay off my debt (or a large part of it) when it is time to pay it off. I don't want these ppl harassing me and my family when I did nothing wrong. I really don't want to risk someone else screwing up again and have me suffering because of it. :/
