Well, Icarus Falls is updated with a partial revamp. The complete revamp, and an update for Hidden Agenda, will have to wait until I get Internet access back. Blog entries will cease until that point as well. ^^;; In the morning our computer is going to be packed up, and we're moving into a hotel, until we leave for the Philippines on Sunday. Wee-hah.

Today (technically yesterday) I bought two Utena artbooks and those gorgeous Sandman figures I'd been dreaming about for months. And a frame for that Utena postcard I had autographed by Kunihiko Ikuhara. And I packed things. And I'm still packing things.

Here are partial lists of:
Things I will miss here:

  • relatives
  • squirrels
  • ducks
  • Star Trek reruns every frigging day
  • Kinokuniya bookstores ;___;
  • giant supermarkets where you can buy ANYTHING
  • cute TV commercials
  • seeing movies as soon as they come out Things I will be happy to leave behind:
  • soul-destroying infomercials and paid programming
  • the Fuzuoku 9000 (see above)
  • changing temperate climates Things I will be glad to come home to:
  • the other relatives
  • my cats MY BABIES!!!
  • my other pets
  • my own room
  • anime on TV every frigging day And... back to packing. Or sleep. Whichever.

    What the hell?! How come nobody ever TOLD me that in Internet Explorer, this blog has a huge grotesque yellow-green bar on the side!! @_@ Okay, it's fixed now, I think.

    Okay. Here are but a tiny fraction of the amazing fanart I found surfing that Black Jack ring.

  • Gorgeous main page pic. *_*
  • Ooh, Black Jack with wings. ^o^ This artist draws REALLY, REALLY cute.
  • Pinoco, looking super-cute and Chacha-like with a BJ doll.
  • By the same artist as above, Pinoco in Black Jack's clothes. This artist seems to specialize in cute Pinoco, but s/he draws BJ himself well too. ^_^
  • Black Jack in Japanese clothes! But still with the signature black coat. ^-^
  • EEEEEE!
  • EEEEEE again!
  • Been watching too much Spawn, doctor?
  • Been reading too much Tokyo Babylon/X/Yami no Matsuei?
  • EEEEEEEE yet more. Several of the pages I found seem to be interested in pairing BJ up with that suicide doctor guy, whatsisname, the one who looks like Vicious from Cowboy Bebop... Kiriko or something. Lots and lots of blatant fanservice shots of the two lighting up cigarettes and such. ^^;; Which is not entirely unexpected, I guess. What surprises me is that nobody seems to have drawn him with Kisaragi, that old girlfriend of his who became a guy. O_o What surprises me more is how so many of these artists manage to make Pinoco looks so frigging cute, as opposed to the creepy little Chucky/tiyanak thing she usually looks like in the manga. @_@

    We had lunch at California Pizza Kitchen and milled around the mall for a couple of hours. Carlo wanted me to pick the birthday present he would get me; which, of course, means that I was doomed to wallow in indecision and end up putting it off for another day. >_<

    And afterwards we went to the gigantic PetCo and bought cat treats, dog treats, and bird treats. And a newer, bigger litter box. And a parrot toy thingy. In case you couldn't tell, I'm rather looking forward to seeing all my pets again when I get home. Not that they're likely to remember me after a whole year... -_-;;

    A bit later I'll be writing about all those Black Jack links I found last night.

    Ladies and Gentlemen, the FINAL Hojo Tokimune Update. Tokimune continues to be a rather wet, and ends up letting Masamura talk him into becoming assistant regent, while Masamura himself becomes regent. -_-;; Again, Akirako doesn't do much this episode, except for one scene of her verbally jousting with Tokisuke. And then, we have a sweet scene of Shoko suddenly showing up with Tokisuke's newborn baby, and the three of them riding off to Kyoto together... awwwww. ^-^

    Err, not quite as exciting as some of the previous episodes, as you can probably tell. ^^;;; But as I mentioned, this will have to be my last Hojo Tokimune Update. I will probably be able to see one more episode before we go home, but I won't have internet access then. I'm just crossing my fingers and hoping that Carlo can get one of his friends to tape the show for us after we leave. ^^

    And, in other news, I turn twenty tomorrow. Well, technically today, since the U.S. is one day behind the Philippines. Damn if that isn't a mind-boggling thought. Being twenty, that is, not the difference in time zones. @_@

    Today we went up to San Francisco, for the last time before we go home. It was COLD. O_O Dad gave the Jeep to the people he sold it to. Bye bye Jeep, may you serve your new owners as well as you did us. I managed to blow quite a bit of birthday money at Borders, Kinokuniya, and Amoeba Records. And it's only Friday. Mweheheh. ^_^

    Well, just watched the final episode of Voyager. Annnnd... well. It wasn't quite as goosebump-inducing as All Good Things, the Next Generation finale, but... it was exciting, and there were some very cool scenes. All in all a great episode, and a nice ending. Except, of course, for...

    ...the indescribably nauseatingly horrible icky disgusting and did I mention FREAKING GROSS Chakotay/Seven-of-Nine "romance" scenes. XO~~~ *BLAAARRRRRRGGHH* Sweet merciful God, WHY?! Beltrans and Meltrans were not meant to coexist! <---(lame Macross-related pun) And the poor Doctor...

    Oh yeah, and the Starfleet uniforms in the future were butt-ugly. XP

    At any rate. A lot of Star Trek fans nowadays seem to take every opportunity to slam Voyager. Ultimately, it may not have been as good as TNG and whatnot... but it still has a special place in my heart. See, I only started watching Voyager this past year that I've been here in the States (and now, thanks to nightly reruns, I've seen almost every episode ^^;;). In a sense, we've been stranded away from home all this time, just like Voyager. And now Janeway and company have made it home; and in just a few more days, so will we.

    We were away for a lot longer than we expected. When we first got here, six months seemed like an eternity. Now it's been more than a year, and I can barely believe it's almost over.

    Here's to the journey.

    I had a rather interesting dream this morning. The first thing I remember was Mom having me put kittens in the oven. For some reason, keeping kittens in the oven would help keep it hot or something. And it didn't hurt the kittens at all; they would just take a nap in there and look all cute and stuff. Anyway, I noticed that one of the kittens was this dark red/maroon color, with black tiger stripes. I wanted to keep that one.

    Then all of a sudden, they're not kittens anymore. They're Magic cards. As in Magic: The Gathering. Not only that, they're Thai Magic cards. And Dad is trying to sell off these Thai Magic cards. So he goes to see MacGyver. It seems MacGyver is a big Magic collector, and he has shelves and shelves stacked with Magic cards. He doesn't seem too interested in Dad's cards, though.

    Yet another weird transition: suddenly Magic cards are nowhere to be seen, and I'm someplace else entirely, admiring a manga-style MacGyver poster. I remember that I really, really wanted that poster, though I don't really know why. -_-;; And then some little old nun asked me if there was bowling and cotton candy downstairs, and then... well, I woke up right about then.

    ....Well, that was just about the most nonsensical dream I've had in quite a while. What amused me the most was Dad's real life hassles over selling his car being transmuted into his trying to sell Thai Magic:TG cards. ^o^

    Hm. Thinking of last night's X-Files, I remember a friend of mine who in high school was a rabid Mulder/Scully shipper. This friend coincidentally happened to have the same name as the Philippines' current president, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo (well, without the Macapagal part). Back when ol' GMA was still just a senator, my friend's e-mail address was "notasenator@something.net". I wonder if now she's had to change it to "notapresident@something.net".

    And I wonder how she and my other high school friends are doing right now. I wish we could all get together and have lunch, and Gloria could go on and on about the final scene in last night's X-Files. ^_^

    "AAAAK... kkckh... ccckkhhhhckckckhckhckhch...."

    (This was the slow choking noise I made when I had to watch Mulder and Scully kiss at the end of tonight's X-Files.)

    (It was nothing compared to my barely-restrained screams of horror at a similar scene while watching the movie a few years back.)

    "....EEEEE! EEEEE!!! NgggggAAAH!!!"

    Oh well, whatever. :P I just wish we had gotten to see Robert Patrick pull off some of his Terminator moves on those Terminator-like guys in this episode. So is the cast of the X-Files from now on going to consist of Agent Dogget and Lara Means Lite?

    (Lara Means being a character from Millennium, that other Chris Carter series that got axed a few years back. *mourn* She looked like The Profiler, she smoked a lot, and had weird creepy visions. Kind of like this X-Files character, Agent Reyes something. Only Lara Means was cooler. This Reyes is just Lara Means Lite. She's quasi-Lara. She's semi-Lara. And she doesn't even have an angel. :P)

    But... I finally got to see last Wednesday's Voyager ep! The Doctor does a Crouching Tiger-ish running-on-the-wall stunt and other Action Hero moves! Coooool! *___* But it's funny, how in Star Trek it often seems so easy for a single character to outwit the rest of the crew and take over the entire ship. I can't count how many times Spock, Data, or Seven of Nine have done the exact same thing. >_<

    Geez... my Hojo Tokimune updates are getting longer and more involved every week. @_@;;; Well, I'll only be able to do them for a couple weeks more, anyway. ;__;

    Anyway. This morning in church, some girl fainted and they had to call the fire department in. In my family, I have kind of a reputation for fainting in church. It happened in Grade 2, during my first Holy Communion. And I've fainted in church on one or two other occasions since then. (Carlo says it's an "Omen" thing... a fire broke out during my baptism, too. @_@) But nobody's ever called in the Fire Department for me. Then again, in the Philippines, firemen don't do that sort of thing. They work the firetruck, and that's about it. If you have an emergency, you'll have to wait an hour or so for the ambulance to arrive. ^-^

    Uh... anyway. SHREK! Carlo and I finally got to see Shrek this afternoon. Now I want to see it again. ^___^

    Sunday, May 20, 2001

    Okay. This week's Hojo Tokimune update: Manly crying, an outbreak of cerebral paralysis, and Akirako Will Kill Them ALL.

    I have this theory that, unlike in the U.S., Japanese culture doesn't consider it wussy for a man to cry, as long as it's MANLY crying. This involves tensing every single facial muscle to the point at which your head (and in some cases, your entire body) seems to vibrate with intense emotion. Yeah, anyway, there was a *lot* of that in this episode. ^o^

    And, Tokimune is such a wet blanket. The boy was vibrating so much in this episode, you could have used him in a chemistry lab. I love it when the other characters point out how his dad Tokiyori-sama was so much cooler. :P My favorite line in this episode, spoken by that older Hojo guy whose name I forgot: "Tokimune, grow up." XD To his credit, he did seem to be developing some backbone by the end of the episode, when he said he would banish Tokisuke. Poor Tokisuke. ;_;

    And the official explanation for Nagatoki's death is a sudden case of "cerebral paralysis". Which I'm pretty sure Sanetoki-dono just pulled out of his ass. I mean, what exactly is "cerebral paralysis" supposed to be? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it generally good for your brain not to move around much? @_@

    Also nice to see the two wives Noriko and Shouko sitting down and having a nice heartfelt chat, seeing as their husbands (Tokimune and Tokisuke) are probably going to end up killing each other someday. ^^;;

    All in all, a riveting episode. My only real complaint is that Akirako didn't appear much. She had only one scene, albeit a nicely sinister one of her sitting alone in a darkened room, playing some checkers-like game. Heh. I'm rooting for her to go ballistic sometime soon. "Hello! My name ees Akeerako. You keeled my husband. Preepare to die." ^o^

My major achievement for the day was going to a hospital and getting my ears flushed out. @.@;;;; At least when we watch Shrek tomorrow I'll be able hear it. And we did manage to get back to catch some of that Voyager marathon. And Mom made tacos for dinner. ^__^

    I was just watching the first ten minutes or so of The Land Before Time III on TV as I cleaned up around the kitchen. But it just got so nauseating that I had to turn it off. I have a pretty high tolerance for bad movies and cartoons; but this was just sucking my brains out, it was so lame. @_@

    I haven't watched the original Land Before Time for a while, but I seem to remember that I didn't care much for it either. Of course, I was one of those annoying youngsters who would spend the whole movie loudly pointing out that Tyrannosaurs have TWO fingers, and that apatosaurus, stegosaurus, and triceratops could not have coexisted in the same time period. (Wait a minute... what do I mean, 'was'? I'm still like that now! ^^;;;;) Although, from what I remember of it, it was still a better movie than Disney's Dinosaur, which was a steaming pile of poop.

    In unrelated news, I need to see Shrek. NOW. Do you hear me?

    And now, a moment of zen.

    *blink blink* ...Ursula?

    XD

    What disturbs me the most... scroll down to the profile of "Julie"... to that last sentence which says that she "secretly longs for Tommy".

    .....(keep in mind that Julie=Juri. And Tommy=Touga.)
    ..................

    OH GOD THAT IS SO WRONG. XO~~~~

    Ahem. Anyway, read through the thing, it's a surreal experience. Like, when has Akio ("Mike") ever worn black? Isn't it kind of confusing for Kanae and Keiko to both be named "Kate"? And who in the name of god are "Silver Mask", "Pazolini", and "Lady June"? Maybe they pulled a Robotech, and started splicing together footage from completely different shows. XD

    And this is going to be showing on ABS-CBN when I get home? I can't wait. ^o^ (To think that last year around this time, I was wondering what Utena would be like dubbed into Tagalog...)

    Oh, I forgot to mention that today I wore the new Sandman shirt I bought at the Hot Topic store. They had several Sandman shirts there, but for some reason they all had the Key to Hell on them right next to Dream's likeness. All I can say is, WTF? The Key to Hell is precisely that, the Key to Hell. It's not a symbol of Dream. It belonged to Lucifer, and then it belonged to Duma. Dream only had it for a short time. So why did Hot Topic plaster it across all their Sandman shirts? The only explanation I can think of is that some idiot at the shirt-making department said, "Ooh, this thingamajiggy looks cool next to that pale guy's face." >_<

    At any rate, the shirt I have now is a black girl-sized one with a nice pic of Dream scattering some sparkly sand. And no freaking Key to Hell anywhere in sight. It's a good thing, too, that I managed to find another Sandman shirt, since my two other ones are years old and starting to get a little worn around the edges. I still love them to death, though.

    Grrah. Spent the greater part of the afternoon running around school trying to get some bloody answers about two courses that I took that aren't listed in my transcript. Spent the second part of the afternoon browsing Aaron Brothers, which for some reason seems to be getting crappier and crappier every time I visit. Their marker racks resemble bleached cattle bones in the desert (make of that weird poetic image what you will). And they didn't have the right size Bristol pad, dammit! I did, however, buy a colorless blender marker and pencil. I also went to McWhorters and doodled extensively on the sheets of paper they leave out for people to test pens. I bought two gel pens.

    Then, at Safeway, we bought the TV guide with Kate Mulgrew on the cover. I swear, it's getting so depressing to read things about Voyager nowadays. The actors are all so catty and the producer guys are all idiots. Not even Voyager fans seem to have anything nice to say about Voyager anymore. :P

    Annnnd.... Harry Potter Doujinshi. OH GOD I WANT IT. Why, oh why can't they be MINE?! *anguished sobs*

    This week's Hojo Tokimune update: His father's final words keep echoing in Tokimune's head, which means he can keep a secret even less than usual! 9_9 He ends up admitting to Sanetoki and Yasumori that Tokiyori wanted Nagatoki dead; putting Yasumori in a difficult spot, since his wife is Nagatoki's sister! Akirako finally breaks down and shows emotion over Tokiyori's death! And, contrary to her mother-in-law's wishes, she flat out refuses to become a nun, and instead vows to find the culprits responsible for poisoning Tokiyori! (WOOHOO!) And Tokimune's wife Noriko finally shows some backbone (not to mention brains)! Tokisuke starts reminding me of Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer! And the episode ends with Nagatoki's death! WOOHOO again!

    And now, some photos scanned from my Hojo Tokimune book, so that those who read this and don't watch the series can get a visual picture of these people I babble talk about.

  • The book cover. Our hero Tokimune looking serious.
  • Tokimune, looking serious again, with Tokisuke in the background. There are quite a lot of pictures of Tokimune looking serious in this book, and not nearly enough shots of Tokiyori.
  • Tokisuke, Tokimune's older half-brother, and reluctant Darth Vader.
  • Tokimune and Tokisuke's dad, Tokiyori, in his long-haired days. ^_^
  • Tokiyori-sama goes battousai. O_O
  • Ice queen Akirako, Tokiyori's wife and Tokimune's mom. Nobody can give a cold stare like Akirako-dono.
  • Akirako holds baby Tokimune, while steadfastly refusing to be nice to Tokiyori.
  • Sanuki, Tokisuke's late psychotic mom. Have you noticed yet that all the women in this show have the exact same hairstyle? We have a hell of a time telling them apart.
  • Tokiyori-sama, looking pleased with something, and... LOOK OUT!! THAT PSYCHO BITCH SANUKI IS RIGHT BEHIND YOU!!! Look at her eyes. She's a frightening woman.
  • Noriko, Tokimune's wife. See what I mean about the hairstyles?
  • Yasumori, the... guy. I don't know, he was related to Tokiyori in some way. He's a major character, and he does stuff. Shown here with little Tokimune!
  • Sanetoki, the scary androgynous guy. He's smart and he looks evil, but he seems to be one of the good guys so far.
  • The foppish shogun. Now this guy is EVIL. He has this high nasal voice, and his laugh can curdle milk. One of those guys trying to get Tokisuke to turn to the Dark Side. When he tells Tokisuke to "sit closer to me", I can't see what it is that keeps Tokisuke from running in the opposite direction while screaming at the top of his lungs.
  • Nagatoki, the weak-willed fill-in regent. Die, you prat, die.
  • Kikyo, another villain. Due to all the women on the show having indistinguishable hairdos and clothing, we had some difficulty learning her name. For the longest time, we knew her as "the evil divorced woman who wears green". After Sanuki's death, she appointed herself as Tokisuke's substitute mother. Not even Tokisuke fell for that one. And, that's all for now (just on the off-chance that anyone was still reading this). Want me to scan anyone else? Toko, the pirate-girl and only female on the show with a distinctive hairdo? Tokiyori's mom, the nun? Munemasa, Tokimune's dumbass younger brother? Kublai Khan, who has yet to do anything except act menacing in Mongolia?

    HariPotaSaachi! (Harry Potter Search)

    For those of you who can't get enough of that groovy Japanese Harry Potter fanart... the above link appears to be the equivalent of an OCAD for Japanese HP fanart pages. You could spend a whole afternoon going through all of them (like I just did ^^). A tip for browsing Japanese fanart pages, if you or your browser can't read Japanese: the gallery link, if not called "gallery" or "picture", is often named "illust/irasuto" or "e". There are lots of nice ones, but here are the ones I found most notable:

  • Uh... can't read the title. ^^;; The artist has a quite cute, vaguely Digimon-ish style (Harry looks so sullen in all these pictures! O_O) The first bunch of links all go to character profiles with pictures, and at the bottom are links to more illustrations and to a comic page.
  • MEDETAIYA -- The gallery is mostly Suikoden, with a few very cute HP pics.
  • Trick or Treat -- Very nice line-y watercolor-y style. Contains the first Japanese fanart of James and Lily that I've seen.
  • Go to Heaven! -- Nice CG. A big Digimon section, if that interests you. The gallery contains one really nice HP pic that almost looks like a movie poster.
  • Remix Juice -- Um, more fanart. A couple of Draco pics. Also the first Japanese artist I've seen who draws Lee Jordan as black. Seriously! All these other Japanese artists draw him with blonde curls. O_o;;;
  • Um... can't read... ^^;;; Lots of very nice, cute pictures. How many times have I used "nice" and "cute" now? Anyway, lots of Ron, Hermione, and the twins.
  • Harry Potter -- Really cute, round-eyed CGs. A really punk-looking Draco. And an oekaki BBS.
  • POP30 -- Maybe I should stop saying "cute". Okay, chou~kawaii chibi-ish Harry, Ron and Hermione colored in natural media.
  • Kanji... can't read... But this one is NICE. Gorgeous line style and clean CG. The last set of links on the gallery page are character profiles with pictures, and... LOOK! Look at Snape! He looks so cool! AHHH! XD Even with the amazing blue-eyed blond Lee Jordan. -_-;;;;
  • So many pretty kanji... Lastly, this appears to be a Snape shrine. There's not a lot there, but SNAPE! What I find interesting is how so many of these artist seem to be pairing up Ron and Hermione, even before books 3 and 4 have been translated into Japanese. I must be dense; I had no idea that they were a potential couple until book 4. -_-;;

I finally got that Hojo Tokimune book thingy. I want to scan some of the pictures so that anybody who reads my ramblings on the series will know I'm not just making it up. ^_^;;

    Anyway, after that Carlo and I went to see the new Akira dub in the AMC theatre. It's actually been years since I've watched that movie, so there were a lot of scenes that I didn't remember. And I don't know if it was the new translation, but this time the movie actually seemed slightly less incomprehensible. The dub was pretty good... but it's a shame it lacked some of the classic lines from the old Streamline dub, such as "Who're you, the funeral director?" and "IT'S MY BRAIN!!!!" ^O^

    Hojo Tokimune update:

    ........

    .....Tokiyori-sama R.I.P.!!! ;__; (Of course, the title of the episode was "Tokiyori's Death"... ^^;;) In a tear-jerking scene, Tokiyori and Akirako finally reconciled with each other! Tokiyori apologized for killing her parents and Akirako admitted she didn't want him to die! This was, of course, the scene I'd been waiting to see since the first damn episode. And in the final scene, Tokiyori calls on his son Tokimune, to impart to him his last words:

    "To protect Kamakura and prevent war... you must kill Nagatoki."

    (Heh. That Nagatoki is a prick anyway.)

    "...and... kill Tokisuke."

    (Oh crap.)

    Wahhhhh, my favorite character is dead... And I want to get this series on DVD or something.

    "In a world with no rules... he's going to make some of his own. Johnny Depp is... PAC-MAN."

    So basically, Carlo and I set out early this afternoon to see The Mummy Returns. Of course, everybody and their estranged uncle did the same. So all the showings were sold out until 3:15. We had just under two hours to wait in line. We bought gigantic ice-cream cones and amused ourselves by creating generic movie trailers (like the quote above), and coming up with alternate title for "The Fast and the Furious" (such as "The Agile and the Angry" and "The Quick and the Quarrelsome").

    One of the first things that occured to me when I first saw the Mummy Returns trailer months ago, was that there must have been a great many sexy armored chicks fighting each other with sais in ancient Egypt. 9_9;; ("My favorite part", says Carlo.)

    And just what is with the demonization of all these gods of the Underworld? First Hades in Disney's Hercules, and now Anubis. First of all, Anubis wasn't the Lord of the Underworld; Osiris was. And second, Anubis was supposed to be a just god. He was the guy who weighed people's hearts to determine where they went when they died. But in this movie he's some evil warlike god who's out to destroy the world. What-ever.

    And Imhotep and Anak-su-Namun had quite a Destro and Baroness thing going. It was cool; but then they both died really crappy deaths, which sucked.

    But anyway. It was a fun movie with some really great action scenes and likable characters. Just stay away from that crappy CG model of The Rock at the end.

    *looks at previous entry* ...I still can't believe I wrote all that crap. ^^;; The sad thing is, I'm already formulating plans for my next Survivor line-up...

    Anyway, what I neglected to do was mention that yesterday I went to Santa Clara (the school) to get a transcript of my grades. Then we went to Nikaku Animart, which I hadn't visited for a while. Mostly I was looking for this pencilboard, which I saw at Fanime Con and have been kicking myself for not getting. They didn't have it; but I was finally able to find that new CLAMP manga Chobits, as well as an old issue of Newtype with a few Big O pictures.

    And we spent pretty much the whole day today at the Gilroy outlet stores. The last time we went there, I was sick, and felt queasy the whole time. And I was kind of dreading going today because we normally spend the whole day on our feet trying on clothes and things; and we ALWAYS eat at Erik's DeliCafe. 9_9 But it was pretty good today; I got some cute shoes and things. Plus, they have a Sanrio store now! Half-price Sanrio merchandise!! How sweet is that? All I ended up buying was a tiny bell that looks like Tuxedo Sam, that you attach to your bag. But Carlo bought this adorable stuffed Badtz-Maru in a dinosaur costume. Badtz-Maru rules. ^-^

    I figure that this is as good a time as any to tell you the final outcome of my Survivor challenge. (If you missed this crap before, go to my blog archives here and scroll down to Friday, February 2.)

    Anyway, several weeks after Tribe Tikbalang and Tribe Manananggal merged to form Tribe Miriam Defensor-Santiago, the final four castaways were Data, Chansey, Utena, and Mastermold. Most viewers were amazed that MasterMold made it this far into the game. After all, who could forget his insidious and extremely transparent ploy to replace several of his fellow contestants with Sentinels? However, the next one to get voted out was Utena. This was plainly a strategic move on the part of the other three; if Utena had made it to the final stage, she could certainly have Revolutionized the World.

    The final immunity challenge involved recalling details about all the contestants that had been voted off the island before. Data, with his android memory, aced the challenge, answering all the questions correctly (except for one, about a mysterious contestant who seems to never have existed in the first place). At any rate, Data then had to choose who between the others would go on with him to the final two. After a moments deliberation, he chose Chansey. He later explained his decision: "MasterMold had stated that he would use the million dollars to wipe out mutantkind and enslave the human race. Chansey has stated that she would use it to refurbish Pokemon centers everywhere. It would seem to be the obvious choice."

    Then the jury (composed of Utena, MasterMold, Mina Murray, Kamui, Goemon, Helen of Troy, and the nonexistent 7th person) cast their votes. After tallying the ballots, it's time to announce the winner of the first ever Andrael's Stupid Survivor Challenge.......

    Chansey!

    ....CHANSEY!!!! Chansey is the ultimate Survivor!!!! *cheers, applause, embracing, montage of old footage, theme music*

    Well, there you have it everyone! Thank you and good night!

    Mm. I'm drinking hot chocolate right now. More specifically, it's... *checks box* Nestle Carnation Double Chocolate Meltdown. ^-^

    I'm also reading this cool article about frogs in the May 2001 National Geographic. There's a part that talks about how the number of frogs being born with deformities is increasing, because of pesticides and toxins in the environment. And there's this indescribably creepy picture of a frog with an eye in the middle of its back. I would scan that sucker right now, if I had my scanner. But I don't, so you'll just have to take my word for it. Or check out the May 2001 National Geographic for yourself. There's also an article about jaguars, and one about pterosaurs. But the issue is worth the cover price just for the frog with an eye in the middle of its back.

    And now more rambling: A couple of nights ago I had this dream that I was in an anime store of some kind, and I found a Black Jack cel and a Black Jack figurine. This was not the teeny little 5-inch action figure that sits on our computer table as I type; nor was it the gorgeous 10-inch figure that I saw once years ago in Japan, and would die to get my hands on. It was an altogether different figure, and now that I think about it, a rather weird-looking one; I think it was cut off from the waist down. Nevertheless, I wanted it. But then I noticed (the way one suddenly notices things in dreams) that what had at first seemed to me to be a box with a clear plastic window and a figure inside, was now a packet with a picture of the figure, and filled with small white plastic pellets. I was rather perplexed; was I supposed to melt these pellets down and mold my own Black Jack figure? I think I was about to ask the clerk about it, when the dream ended. Funny things, dreams. Oh well.

    I had the place to myself for nearly the whole day today. I slid out of bed at 2:00, taped Big O, made myself some kind of rice-and-beef concoction for "breakfast", listened to the Quidam soundtrack, did the laundry (which basically involved going back and forth up and down the stairs with laundry baskets about 7 times over 3 hours, while two little girls threw a beach ball around in the hallway), and worked on a Winamp skin. And Dad's operation thing apparently went well. And Mom and Carlo came home around 8 in the evening, and we ate leftover paella and ribs and watched Boston Public, Ally McBeal (guest starring Sting! *__*), and that episode of Voyager where they travel back in time to the 20th century and make various pop culture references. All in all, a very relaxing day. ^_^

    Anyway, now for my Hojo Tokimune update. For those of you who are just joining us, Hojo Tokimune is a Japanese historical drama that Carlo and I happened to stumble across one night, and subsequently got hooked on. A local channel shows it on Saturday nights, with subtitles.

    Two Saturdays ago, we finally saw the debut of Tokimune and Tokisuke in their adult forms! What's weird is that adult Tokimune is better-looking than adult Tokisuke, whereas the teenage Tokisuke was better-looking than teenage Tokimune! What's weirder is that none of the other characters seem to have aged at all! And this last episode ends with Tokiyori-dono informing his sons that he's been poisoned and has like a month to live! Damn these infernal cliffhangers! Will Tokiyori-dono finally get killed off? (Which would suck, since he's one of my favorite characters.) Will that stubborn git Akirako-dono finally be nice to him, now that he's dying? Will Tokisuke take this opportunity to turn into the full-fledged Darth Vader that everyone seems to be pressuring him into becoming? Find out next week! Same Tokimune time, same Tokimune channel!

    Most of my weekend has been taken up by our big Family Reunion (family in this case being all our relatives in the States -- in other words, my dad's side of the family). Yesterday, in the afternoon, Carlo and I went to see Bridget Jones' Diary with some of our cousins. Later on, we all stuffed ourselves paella and chicken and ribs and things; all prepared by my mom. There were thirteen people crammed into our apartment; it was noisy, the smoke alarm went off several times, and the pile of dishes left to be done afterwards would have dwarfed the Augean stables. What more could you want from a family reunion?

    And today, we went on another picnic in the park with the redwoods. And as we always do, we went walking on the trail after we ate. But what was cool this time was that we got to see this really neat shallow river, exactly the kind of river you've seen in a billion movies. There were sandbars and logs sticking out, and a duck sitting on one of the logs. And at one point there was a bridge over the river, with train tracks. How cool is that?

    Anyway, our family reunion. Later on, I'll be writing another Hojo Tokimune update.

    Wow. Neil Gaiman blog. O_O

    My favorite is the part where he talks about how his daughter offered to help him write "Nel Gurgle" on 5,000 title pages, and then went out to ride her bike. ^o^ Dammit, I want to meet Neil Gaiman. Maybe I should add that to my "Missions in Life".

    Thanks to Raven for recommending the above link. ^_^

    Mom came back this morning. And Carlo's been offered a full-time job at the place where he works. Ah, the things that happen while I'm asleep. :P

    Mom brought me, among other things, a fresh supply of Nissin's Cup Yakisoba. :D~~~ God I love these things. I know they're just laden with sodium and preservatives and all that bad stuff, but they're just so good. *_* Why the heck don't they make these over here?

    Anyway, two of my big Things To Do this week were done today -- I mailed the payment for my Big O manga order to Sasuga Books, and I packed up my crappy scanner and sent it off. GIVE MY REGARDS TO THE JUNK HEAP, SUCKER. XD So, with no other pressing tasks for today, I went walking with Mom and Dad. Over the course of the walk, I saw three calico cats.

    Okay, now my scanner does not work at ALL. Before it could at least scan grayscale decently. I was hoping to scan a couple of things before packing it up and sending it off. But now the preview scan comes out all black (with rainbow stripes across, of course >_<). And once it reaches the end of the scan, it alway jams and makes a horrible grating noise until I pick the scanner up and tilt it vertical.

    Bah. Get this worthless piece of junk out of my sight, NOW!!!

    Monday, April 23, 2001

    Well, it's just about one month until we go home, so I thought this would be an ideal point at which to archive again. By the way, I made the following decision a few days ago: the official title of this blog is now "Kurozukin". The unofficial title is whatever I feel like at the moment. ^^

    While out walking this afternoon with my dad, we encountered a curious phenomena -- an ice cream truck. An actual ice cream truck, playing music, and with stickers on the side, driving slowly down a quiet neighborhood. I'd seen these things in cartoons, but for all the times I've been to the States over the years, I'd never seen a real one; I didn't think they existed anymore. I had Dad buy me an ice cream. I didn't particularly want one, but the thought of buying an ice cream from a genuine ice cream truck was impossible to resist. ^_^

    Ehhh... Now I find out I have to pack up my scanner and send it off, and they'll send a replacement. I'll be without a scanner for at least a week. ;____; What a pain...

  • Mini F.A.Q.:
    Q: Who is that weirdo in the picture?
    A: That's Darth Flower, a character I made up. She's the world's most evil magical girl. Just avoid eye contact and you should be fine.

    Q: Why is this place all pink?
    A: I like pink? I dunno, maybe it's an Utena thing. *shrug*

    Q: Just what is the title of this blog?
    A: This is something that took me a ridiculously long time to settle on. ^^;; The official title is "Kurozukin", meaning black hood, which comes from Kurozukin Yakko, a character from the anime series Akazukin Chacha. The unofficial title is whatever I feel like at the moment. ^^;;
