Carlo drove me to school for my Japanese final. On the way, we stopped by Kinokuniya, because he had to pick up the Xenogears book he ordered. And they had DNAngel 5. Daisuke kawaiiii~ *_*

We also spotted a book about that Hojo Tokimune TV series. It had a big picture of the title character's face on the cover (in adult form, of course). Hm... now I get a good look at him, he's not nearly as good-looking as his dad. Wossname. Tokiyori-sama. Who's played by an actor named Ken Watanabe. I keep thinking that the name is familiar, but it might just be because it's a really common Japanese name, like Jack Robinson or something. Anyway. I might have thought about buying the book, but it was mostly text and little historical diagrams, and not enough nice big photographs. Oh well, we'll see.

Uh. So, I literally did not sleep last night. Straight through. No sleep. I think it's the first time that I've actually NOT slept the whole night to finish a school thing. But anyway, I finished it, and took the bus and went to school and submitted it, and there were these taiko-or-something drummers there, and they were serving people bits from a 150-foot-long cake. I ate some. I'm not sure what flavor it was. It didn't give me much energy, though; but somehow or other, I made it home, and flopped onto the bed and slept about 5 hours. Guhhh...

Now, if I could just find some way I can use the title "Women who run with scissors".

I went to bed at around 5 am. It was around 7:30 before I managed to doze off. I woke up again around 8:30, and got back to sleep around 9:30, and finally got up at 1:30. So that's about 5 hours sleep in all.

It's only not being able to sleep that makes you realize just how squeaky the floor actually is. And when you combine that with the song "Information High" from Macross Plus running through your head, it isn't pretty.

Another Saturday, another thrilling installment of Hojo Tokimune! Lord Tokiyori has a touching "last words" scene with his son Shojumaru, but then surprises everyone by not dying of measles after all! All those guys in Kyoto who were plotting against him are screwed now! Meanwhile, his wife Akirako-dono still stubbornly refuses to admit that she doesn't hate him! Also meanwhile, in China, Kublai Khan is still getting his act together! Yet more meanwhile, our hero, young Shojumaru/Tokimune is still only six years old! What the hell is going to happen next? Who could have guessed that Japanese historical dramas could be so addictive?

Faith, I was referring to "The Lost Empire", this dippy NBC miniseries that I had just watched. Some evil guys want to wipe the novel "Journey to the West" (which Dragon Ball was modeled on) from existence, and apparently this would bring an end to Civilization As We Know It, and the only one who can prevent this is Greg from Dharma and Greg. It was... quite fantastically bad. XD

I could type on at length and describe my day, how my class presentation flopped and I came home feeling like the most mediocre person on the planet, then hurriedly finalized and printed out my revised Philosophy paper and walked 15 minutes to McWhorter's to mail it, only to find out that they didn't have a post office there anymore, and Kinokuniya didn't have DNAngel 5 to boot, so I had to walk all the way *back* and catch the bus and go to Longs, and then I had to hassle with the fact that the mailing address the professor left doesn't have a street number, then plunk down 20 dollars to get it delivered by the 14th, and then take the bus all the way back. But I won't.

.....Anyway, now I'm tired, and I just want to eat pizza and watch Star Trek.

I was just watching this 2000-in-review program for "Baliwood" movies. They were showing clips from a lot of different movies that came out last year. The host would introduce them, saying that this one was about government corruption, this one was about political instability and terrorism, these ones were about feminist issues. But they were all the same -- these big elaborate dance numbers with a bunch of men and women singing at each other and making flirtatious gestures. XD The dancing was pretty good, though; Americans haven't made movies with dance sequences like that since the time of West Side Story.

Spent most of the day out. I bought those two mini Hogwarts textbooks JKR wrote for charity ("Quidditch Through The Ages" and "Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them"). I haven't read them thoroughly yet. I also bought a quite hilarious book called "The 5-minute Iliad and Other Instant Classics".

When we got home in the evening, we watched "Hojo Tokimune", that Japanese period drama that we've been tuning in to every Saturday night for the past 3 weeks. It's really quite addicting. As you can guess, the whole thing is about this guy, Hojo Tokimune, and we get treated to some glimpses of him as an adult, charging into battle, striking dramatic poses on wind-swept cliffs, etc. But by the end of the first episode he'd only just been born... and by the end of this, the third episode, he was only six years old. Wonder how long this series is going to go on for... ^^;;

Anyway, I'm off to watch Conan O'Brien on SNL. ^-^ And hopefully, after that, do some work on my papers. ^^;;;

This just amuses me no end for some reason... but when I try translating Japanese Harry Potter fanart pages using Altavista's translator, it renders "Riddle" as "Lee dollar"! XD And the translations are just so hilariously incomprehensible -- just the sort of gobledygook you'd expect to find written on a Sanrio pencilcase or shitajiki. ^^ An excerpt:

Multitasking. I am at the moment finishing up an original CG I have been working on off-and-on for a couple of weeks. It's done, actually; but I just need some kind of caption, which is eluding me at the moment. I am also trying to write a script for Hidden Agenda 3 (which is unusual, since I almost never write scripts for my comics ahead of time). And inbetween, I read a couple of paragraphs at a time from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. Oh yeah, and I'm writing this.

The Akazukin Chacha doujinshi have arrived! They're adorable! Life is good. ^-^

I stayed a little longer after school today to do research in the library. Two things have been running through my head all day today. One is the song "You Turn the Screws" by Cake. The other is the idea that if they made a sci-fi version of the Odyssey (i.e. Ulysses 31), why can't they make one for the Iliad, too? So I started thinking the concept through, and it started turning into a sort of grand space-opera Iliad-meets-Macross sort of thing. ^__^ I might try to doodle a few designs, but this is one of those things that will probably never attain concrete form, for two good reasons. One: can you say, "epic"? And two, I suck at spaceship and mecha design. So this is mostly just in-brain entertainment. ^___^

That eBay seller person e-mailed me yesterday and said that she'd just mailed my doujinshi, so it should be here soon. It's weird... I've found Akazukin Chacha doujinshi on eBay quite often, but they're almost always the hentai variety. >_< There are a couple of ones I've seen popping up fairly regularly, all with a super-cute cover picture of Chacha; it's almost hard to believe that they're hentai on the inside.

It creeps me out to think that hentai Akazukin Chacha doujinshi should be so easy to find. I mean, what is it about the Japanese doujinshi artist's frame of mind that says, "Ooh, charming series with a cute 12-year-old heroine? Let's draw us some hentai!" Not that I should be surprised or anything, seeing as Card Captor Sakura hentai is all over the place. ^^;;

Surfing eBay, this doujinshi caught my eye. It's also Chacha hentai, but it's one I haven't seen before. It's also the only one I've seen so far that actually pictures one of the *adult* characters on the cover -- Dorothy-chan, looking all sexy and come-hither. O_O

I jumped out of bed at 3:00 this afternoon with this sudden urge to go to Kinokuniya. So we went, but they had nothing. NOTHING! Well, they had the Yukiru Sugisaki Neutral artbook, and some Megami Kouhousei manga, and a new Kaikan Phrase with a pretty shiny cover. But dammit, I can't afford to make any impulse buys -- I'm saving up my money for Fanime Con! And they didn't have what I was really looking for, which was DNAngel volume 5. So pweh. I ended up just buying some roasted chestnuts for Mom on the way out. :P

Ah, but Fanime Con! I can't wait! *_* It's my first ever anime convention. A couple of years ago we did manage to find a very small general sci-fi-comic-y convention in New York, but that's all. Carlo wishes that he had his copy of Otaku no Video so he could get Hiroyuki Yamaga to autograph it. ^^

I can't believe it. I cleaned out our study room. As I'm sitting here on the computer and typing this, I'm *not* up to my elbows in books, fliers, scraps of paper, CDs, floppy disks, index cards, tankobons, and post-its. It's a freaking miracle. XD So I figured it would be appropriate to "clean out" (i.e. archive) my blog as well.

GRRRR!!! My Akazukin Chacha doujinshi haven't arrived yet. I've been waiting all week! They were supposed to ship last Saturday! If they don't get here by next week, there's gonna be hell to pay. >_<

I've been reading the nice UK edition Harry Potter books I got off eBay. I started on Chamber of Secrets last night. Having just re-read Philosopher's Stone (aka Sorceror's Stone) recently, I'm able to appreciate the new movie trailer all the more. ^-^ I've also been struck once again by the urge to draw HP fanart non-stop. I'm considering putting up a whole "Potter Rakugaki" section somewhere in my page. ^^;;
