    Dreams of Sakura's X shrine

    Kyaaaa! Sorata/Arashi scene! *^-^* Lord knows I've had nothing but the highest praise for Sorata's empathy and perceptiveness in the past; but he has to be kind of dense not to realize by now that Arashi likes him.

    Dammit, I want to get Asuka, but I can never find it at the store. Maybe I should subscribe. Or maybe I should have subscribed when we first arrived here well over six months ago -- I could've gotten a whole year's subscription, with all the pretty color inserts and everything. ;_; God, did there really used to be a time when I only read X when a new X volume came out? O_O Now, when a new one comes out, it's all material that I'd read summarized or seen scans of months before.

    Right now I'm listening to "Man of Constant Sorrow" from the Oh Brother Where Art Thou? soundtrack. And all of a sudden it starts reminding me of Kamui. O_o Again with the bizarre Homer/manga associations -- it shows I'm well and truly cracking up, right?

    Okay, I think I may have succesfully finalized that Harry Potter Character test I was working on. Here are my results:

    # 1 Hermione Granger
    # 2 Percy Weasley
    # 3 Neville Longbottom
    # 4 Remus Lupin
    # 5 Albus Dumbledore
    # 6 Harry Potter
    # 7 Sirius Black
    # 8 Charlie Weasley
    # 9 Minerva McGonagall
    # 10 Voldemort
    # 11 Draco Malfoy
    # 12 Gilderoy Lockhart
    # 13 Ginny Weasley
    # 14 Ron Weasley
    # 15 Rubeus Hagrid
    # 16 Bill Weasley
    # 17 Fred/George Weasley
    # 18 Severus Snape

    That sounds a little more likely than what I was getting before (I kept on coming up Dumbledore for #1 O_O). Snape's still absolute bottom, though. ;_; Oh well, they do say that opposites attract. ^____^

    I saw a hummingbird today. I was sitting inside one of the buildings at school, and through the big glass doors/wall thingy, I saw it hover for a bit and then land in the grass. I rushed outside to take a look at it, since I'd never seen a hummingbird land in grass before. And there it was, just lying there, with its little wings spread out at its sides, looking dazed. It was the kind with the shiny green feathers and the red spot on its neck (Ruby-throated Hummingbird? I think that's what it's called).

    I figured it must have flown into the glass. I wondered if it was hurt. I knew I probably shouldn't touch it, but otherwise I wasn't sure what to do. I tried to recall what it said in those old nature books I used to read, about what to do with a bird that had injured itself flying into a window. I think it said to keep the bird in a shoebox lined with newspaper or tissue paper or something. But I didn't have any tissue, much less a box.

    Eventually, I decided to run inside and get some paper towels from the restroom. I'm not sure how exactly I planned to use them, or what I would have done even if I had managed to move the hummingbird. But at any rate, by the time I got back outside, it was gone. It must have only been a little stunned.

    That was a pretty big deal: getting to see a hummingbird at close range. I saw its little wings with the little feathers, and its little eyes blinking. Better than the Discovery Channel.

    HariPote

    Right now I'm obsessed with this picture. I'm not sure why; I'm not much of a T.M. Riddle fan (heh heh, "T.M. Riddle", sounds like a rapper or something). But it's just something about the picture, and the little caption, that just gets to me. He's so cute, he looks like, "Oh my, whatever am I going to do with you? I suppose I have no choice but to take over the world." Riddle is even better-looking the way this artist draws him. :D (Special thanks to Riven for recommending that second link.) I guess I'll have to add Riddle to the list of Harry Potter characters for whom my opinion of them improved due to fanart; right along with Draco Malfoy and Percy Weasley.

    Anyway, that "HariPote" page linked up there has a number of new Snape pictures. For some reason, their Snape has a braid. And green hair. And wears colorful clothing. And yet for some reason, I still love it. I guess my judgment is just colored when it comes to Snape drawings.

    I was watching Outlaw Star on Cartoon Network today, and it was an episode about some female assasin. It was so funny how they kept substituting the word "kill" for the word "destroy". "To destroy. Her profession is to destroy." "If you want to destroy him, you'll have to destroy me first." "I couldn't just destroy her!" XD I hear that they did that for Heero's famous "omae o korosu" line in Gundam Wing, too. It's so weird. I mean, they could at least use something a little closer to the intended meaning, like "I'll get rid of you." "I'll destroy you" sounds more like, "I'll spread nasty unfounded rumors about you. You'll never work in this town again!"

    Well, both the US and the Philippines have a new president today. :/ Mom was lucky enough to be home at this time, she got to go to EDSA and everything. If Gloria is half as good a president as Erap was a bad one, she should do fine.

    Tonight Carlo took us (Dad and I) out to dinner at a cute little Italian restaurant named "Villagio". Inside, there was a sign that said "The Village". O_o Maybe I should have called the waitress "number 6". There was also a sign hanging that said "Sala Machiavelli", with a picture of Nicolo Machiavelli. All right, it was a weird restaurant. But the food was pretty good.

    Right now I am scanning Hidden Agenda 2 and filling in the blacks in Photoshop.

    We just saw our neighborhood on TV! Our neighborhood in the Philippines! XD It's because a bunch of senators live there, and people were demonstrating against them. Damn, I wish we could be home right now. People thronging to EDSA, Erap getting kicked out of the country... this is way more exciting than any of that Bush-Gore crap that was going here a few months ago. >_<

    Aheheh... I haven't blogged in what, a week? ^^;;;; I guess I thought to myself, "Okay, I won't write anything until I'm totally finished with Hidden Agenda 2." And before I knew it, a week had gone by... And no, I'm not done yet. >_< I just need to add the finishing details to about half the pages and then I can scan them.

    I was technically supposed to have read the first 12 books of the Odyssey in time for class this morning. So naturally, I start reading last night at about 12:30. ^^;; I read during commercial breaks while watching Star Trek: The Next Generation and Doctor Who. By about 3:30, I had finished 4 books. I read book 5 while waiting for the bus this morning. Hopefully, I'll be able to finish the whole book by Monday, when we're continuing our class discussion. ^^;;

    Anyway, it's surprisingly easy to read (the translation I'm reading is, anyway). Already the story has mentioned Hermione and Nausicaa... I wonder how many more familiar names will appear before the end. ^_^ The thing is, the Odysseus that I picture in my head as I'm reading looks either like Armand Assante (who played him in the Hallmark TV miniseries version of the Odyssey) or like Tom Hanks in Castaway. Geh @_@

    Maybe I'll get a better mental image if I could just watch that old Ulysses 31 cartoon that I used to love as a kid. The one where Ulysses looked like a sci-fi Jesus and travelled in a spaceship with Telemachus and this little psychic alien girl. The thing I remember most clearly about the series is the theme song. "UlySE-e-E-e-ES! No-one else can do the things you do!" ^-^ Damn, I want to see that show again! Where the hell can I find tapes? ^^

    Then, just now as I was listening to random songs on Winamp, I put on "Lonely Soldier Boy" from the third season of Robotech. And suddenly the song started to remind me of Odysseus. O_o I swear! Like the part at the beginning of the book where he's been on Calypso's island for seven years, and... Okay, in my head Homer is mixing in with cheesy 80's pop soundtracks. I need help.

    Wow! What an experience! I just managed to get the full version of "Welcome to the Magical School" off of Napster. It's over 4 minutes long and super upbeat, with lots of added instruments. "Magic magic magic magic... YOUKOSO! MAGICAL SCHOOL E!" ^-^

    Dammit, now I wanna watch Akazukin Chacha again! I miss that series. ;_; I've never met anyone who's seen the series and didn't like it. Oh, and I could just go on forever about the parallells between Akazukin Chacha and Harry Potter. In fact, I did... I submitted my ramble to this Harry Potter page, and the owner put it up under Fun Stuff, Crossovers. ^^;;

    Now I'm downloading Ranma music for some reason. For the past couple of days I've been getting the urge to hear some of those songs again. So when I search for them on Napster, I have to rack my brain to remember what the titles were. It took me a while to remember the name of that one end theme I really liked; I think it's Equal Romance. The one that begins, "Darling, just for me, blah blah blah..." I think I could count that among my favorite anime end themes of all time.

    Anime end themes are a rare art. I think they can be just as important as the opening theme in the... er... emotional framing of the episode. Gah, what the hell am I talking about? @_@ At any rate, here are my top 10 favorite TV anime end themes:

  • Heart of Sword -- Rurouni Kenshin (I forget which episodes).
  • Yume no Naka e -- Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou. I swear this is the most infectious song ever; during idle moments I always find myself humming it. "Sagashi mono wa nan desu ka? Mitsukenikui mono desu ka?" @_@
  • Taiyo ga Mata Kagayaku Toki -- Yu Yu Hakusho (4th ED, I think).
  • Unbalanced Kiss -- Yu Yu Hakusho (3rd ED).
  • Daydream Generation -- Yu Yu Hakusho (5th ED, I think). As you can see, I really like the end themes from this series. ^^
  • The Real Folk Blues -- Cowboy Bebop.
  • Mystic Eyes -- Escaflowne.
  • Virtual Star Embryology -- Utena (2nd ED).
  • Youkoso Magical School e -- Akazukin Chacha (3rd ED). This one never fails to bring a smile to my face. ^_^ "Sekai de ichiban fushigi na mono wa... MAGIC! Magic baby!"
  • Tokimeki no Doukasen -- Fushigi Yuugi. I liked this better than the OP theme; particularly how the episode sort of fades into the song at the end. ^^ There are lots of others that I like, but it would be ridiculous to list them all. ^^;;

    There's a guy in my Japanese class who I thought looked familiar in some way. Today I realized that he looks like Pacey from Dawson's Creek. (Not that I really watch Dawson's Creek, but you know.)

    And there's this girl in my Mythology in the Wetern World class who has a British accent. Now there are lots of different kinds of British accents. There's the Eliza Doolittle kind of accent. There's the Spice Girls kind of accent. There's the Jennifer Saunders in Absolutely Fabulous kind of accent. There's the Chicken Run kind of accent. But this girl has, like, the PERFECT English accent. Sort of low and intelligent-sounding and soothing. But very, very British. I swear she sounds like Princess Diana or something. Or J.K. Rowling, come to think of it. JKR sort of had a voice like that in the interviews I saw her in.

    Annnnnd, it's a weekend again. I hope I can get Hidden Agenda all inked and finished and uploaded and everything. ^^;; The hardest part is writing the freaking dialogue. That's why I kind of want to do a separate comic project which will be easier to write.

    It rained even more today. And it was windy as hell. Or maybe it was just the same as yesterday, but the difference was that I actually had to go out in the freezing cold wind and rain. As I was walking to the bus stop this morning, clinging to my umbrella for dear life, I saw that all the ducks from the pond were out and about and having a great time. A few of them were even swimming in an extra-large puddle.

    Anyway, fortunately I only had one class today, and Mom and Dad were able to pick me up afterwards. It's freaking cold. ;_; I'm just not built for cold weather, and it boggles my mind that some people live in Canada or Alaska where it's colder than this all year long.

    I have a yucky blister on my thumb from playing DOA2 with Carlo last night. >_< I don't get it! Video games never gave me blisters before.

    And, on a random note, here are my 10 favorite movies of 2000:

  • Chicken Run
  • Gladiator
  • X-Men
  • Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
  • Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?
  • Unbreakable
  • The Emperor's New Groove
  • Titan A.E.
  • Charlie's Angels
  • Frequency I had to get out my collection of ticket stubs to remember all the movies we'd seen this year. ^^ And that's just since May, so I may have forgotten some movie I saw before that.

    It's been raining all day. This amazes me; all these months I've been here I've never experienced real rain. It was only the kind where a couple of drops fall and then nothing, or where you come out and the ground is all wet and it's bloody cold. I was beginning to think that they didn't have real rain in the US. But no, today it was real rain. Of course this is still pretty mild compared to the rainy season back home, but still. Real rain. Makes me homesick. Sniff.

    My first class of the day was Japanese. Like most first classes, we had to do a dippy little "introduce ourselves" thing; only in this case we had to do it in Japanese. Just say your name, and the teacher asks for some inane details about yourself like why you're studying Japanese or how you spent your winter break. Here's what my dialogue should have been like, in my head:

    Me: Watashi wa Andrea desu.
    Teacher: Andrea-san, doushite Nihongo wo benkyoushimasu?
    Me: Sekai wo kakumei suru tame ni.

    Right after Japanese I had Classical Mythology in the Western Tradition. Seems like it will be a cool class. It turns out that the main myths we're going to focus on will be Helen of Troy and Odysseus. To think I just saw "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?" last Saturday. We had to buy a poopload of books for the course; but they're all cool esoteric ek-ek like the complete plays of Sophocles or Euripides, things that look good on your bookshelf. ^^

    Grrr. I feel vaguely depressed, probably because I have to go back to school on Monday. I've done all the mildly diverting internet surfing I can do today; but I don't feel like drawing, and I feel too icky to sleep soundly. So I type here, hoping that this will alleviate it somewhat. Pweh.

    Okay. Now I'm either going to try to go to sleep, or try to draw something.

    Had to drag my ass out of bed early this morning. We were supposed to spend just over an hour in the hospital, but we ended up sitting around the little waiting room until afternoon. It wasn't too bad; I'd brought my sketchbook along and doodled some. And I read some more of that Star Trek ethics book, which is pretty interesting, and Carlo is really getting into it because he studied all that Platonian and Aristotelian ek-ek before.

    But we sat around for so long without having lunch that I started to go slightly insane. I would make high-pitched warbling sounds, and became strangely fixated on words ending in "-ru". When neither Carlo nor I could stand it any longer, we headed for the cafeteria. On the way, I stopped to go to the restroom. The paper towel dispenser had a sign on it that read "Pull Straight Down". For some reason, I just found this incredibly funny. I was giggling about it for ten minutes. One might have thought I was on drugs or something.

    Anyway, later on Carlo and I went to watch Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? That was one freaky-weird movie, but pretty cool. Fancy that, a George Clooney film that we liked.

    Well, I did it. I got a freaking blog. Looks familiar, doesn't it? ^^;; Well, I had to do this all in a hurry, when I realized that LiveJournal wasn't keeping all of my old entries. I suppose it was silly of me to think that LiveJournal would just keep storing entries indefinitely.

    Anyway, I thought about it. One of the main reasons I got an online journal thing is because I like to read old crap that I've written, but I've always been too lazy to keep a written journal for long. I liked LiveJournal at first because it had cute little things like Current Mood and Current Music and stuff. But now I realize that the main purpose of LiveJournal is community: having a bunch of friends who also have LiveJournals and read each other's entries. But the only person *I* know who has one is Riven (hi Riven ^^) And my main purpose for having one of these things? Self-indulgence. ^^;;

    So bye-bye, LiveJournal. It was fun. I tried out Blogger too, but it was really slow and crappy. So I guess this is my blog now. Yay. The design is still under construction, by the way. ^^;;
