Oh Bjork, Bjork,
Head over to the Brunching Shuttlecocks right now and download the Bjork song. XD
Anyway, I really hit the jackpot at Kinokuniya today. I went there mostly to ask them if they had the Big O manga in stock. And as I casually glanced over the manga magazine section, what did I spy but a single copy of the May 2001 Asuka with Sorata and Arashi on the cover. *____* yoink! I snatched that sucker so fast there was a vacuum effect. Then, looking over some of the new tankobons, I found Mikan no Tsuki vol. 4. I didn't even know there was a fourth volume out! ^__^ I didn't think it would even come out by the time we have to go back to the Philippines.
They didn't have the Big O manga, though. It's okay, I can always order it. ^_^
.....
Oh Bjork, oh Bjork, oh Bjork!

So my mom called us tonight (well, technically, last night 9_9) and informed me that my turtle died. Apparently he'd started shedding scales and losing his appetite, and then they just found him dead. That turtle was one of my older pets, so I think he deserves some sort of eulogy.
I don't remember exactly how long I'd had the turtle. I've kept a lot of turtles over the years (ever since my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle phase ^^;;). They all lived varying lifespans. But this guy was the last of them, and I think, the longest-lived. I received him as a gift -- a Christmas gift. I think the name I originally gave him was Surf or something like that; but over the years I mostly only addressed him as "turtle", and that was what he ended up being known as.
He was a red-eared slider terrapin (chrysemys scripta elegans, I think... I used to read reptile books obsessively as a kid. ^^;;) He lived in a round plastic basin in my bedroom (ever since the aquarium he used to live in broke). There was a rock in the middle of the basin, which he would climb up on to sun himself in the morning. He mostly ate the same food as my cats. I don't know if he ever recognized me personally; but I know that he recognized human beings as providers of food, because every night around dinner time he would look up expectantly at any passing figure.
Well, that's it, I guess. My turtle. May he rest in peace.

Yeesh, it's freezing cold! And raining! And it would be the day that I have to do the laundry. >_<
Anyway, go to this page. It's a subsection in the fanart gallery of this Harry Potter page; I don't know what language it's in. There are lots of pretty pics by other artists in the main gallery, so you would do well to have a look around later. But I want to direct your attention to this particular artist. Isn't that first picture of Harry, Ron, and Hermione pretty? *__* Aheheh... but actually, the picture that struck me the most, just for its sheer weirdness, is that pic of the 4 Defense Against Dark Arts teachers... as sparkly bishounen. O__o;;;; I mean, sure, Lockhart and Lupin could be bishounen, but... Moody?? And Quirrel looks like freaking Kamui, and he doesn't even have his turban! Anyway, you've got to see this pic to believe it. They look like a J-rock band! ^O^

What the hell? I only added the tracker a few hours ago, and already I've gotten 4 hits from people searching for Card Captor Sakura hentai. And one from someone searching for Eriol Hiiragizawa pictures. O__O

*snicker* Geez, the Big O end theme, "And Forever..." is super duper cheesy. XD A few days ago, I woke up with that song playing in my head for some strange reason. So I downloaded it. Today I'm basically downloading all the Big O related stuff I can, and so now I'm listening to the full version of the song. And it's ten times as cheesy as the TV-sized version. ^^ It's this sappy love ballad that sounds like... I dunno... a duet between Lea Salonga and Jose Mari Chan, or something. I keep thinking of those weird Chinese pop love ballads on Channel V, for some reason. ^o^
I e-mailed the scanner people again, and today they tell me that I have to call them over the phone. Eccch.
Oh yeah, I've come up with the new catchphrase that's bound to replace "All your base are belong to us". It's "We have came to teams." Just picture this:
Person 1: Hello.
Person 2: CAST IN THE NAME OF GOD!
Person 1: Huh?
Person 2: YE NOT THE GUILTY!
Person 1: What are you saying?
Person 2: WE HAVE CAME TO TEAMS!
.......
Aheheh. No side. ^^;;

Last episode of Big O.
Mysteries not explained. Questions not answered. Instead, more burning questions brought up, and left unanswered.
They damn well better be making more of these. ;__;
Well, on the plus side, I can appreciate an 'ending' that doesn't really end the story, that doesn't resolve every issue and answer all the viewer/reader's questions. After all, as Neil Gaiman said, there are no endings -- not really. There's just the point where we stop watching. And as Neil Gaiman also said, quoting a bunch of other people, it's the mystery that endures, and not the explanation.
.......
....That having been said....
...they damn well better be making more of these.

Random thought: Why is it when a mecha is fighting an enemy, and the enemy has the mecha in a headlock or something, the pilot of the mecha always strains and reacts as if he's the one being physically assaulted? Sure, they had an explanation for this in Evangelion and Escaflowne, but what about other shows like The Big O and Gundam Wing?
And, in other news: my scanner is a piece of crap. For the past few weeks all my scans have been coming out with green and yellow stripes on them. Today I got instructions from the scanner company on how to fix it. I spent all afternoon on it and followed the instructions exactly. And now not only does it still scan with green and yellow stripes, the scanner jams and makes horrible noises. ><;;;; God, I miss my old scanner back home.

Last night Carlo was playing Soul Calibur, and he unlocked this option that allows you to select the characters that appear in the opening movie. So we were playing around with that, and I suggested making an all-Lizardman movie. So he did. He placed Lizardman in every character slot, and let the thing play.
I nearly got a hernia from laughing.
Lizardman in a dramatic pose. Lizardman scuttles across the screen. Lizardman scuttles across the screen again. And again. And again, and so on. Lizardman posing like Sophitia on a windswept cliff. GO LIZARDMAN!!! XD
And dammit, tell me that Roger doesn't look like a freaking Vulcan in this picture. I've been wondering for a while now: why is everyone in this anime drawn with pointy ears? Did the "Event" somehow turn human beings into elves? O_O Well, the last episode plays tomorrow. So hopefully we'll find out. >:)

Mom went back home (to the Philippines) this morning. She'll be gone for about a week or so.
And this afternoon I saw a baby squirrel outside. An itty bitty little baby squirrel, walking around. What was weird was that it didn't run away from people like most squirrels. A bunch of the local kids were clustering around it, and it would go right up to them and sniff their shoes. O_O
Tonight's Big O was episode 11, "Daemonseed". I thought it was kind of neat how the story was almost like a metaphor for the overcommercialization of Christmas. And I was surprised that they actually showed a church, and mentioned a "Book of Revelations", considering that they'd already removed all references to "god" in the dub. ^^;;

Brainiac: Look, I just want some pants. A decent pair of paaants~!!!
Solomon Grundy: Solomon Grundy want pants too!

...W'la lang.

God, I can't believe I've been such an unproductive slob all week. I haven't drawn, blogged, answered e-mail, or anything. Well, I am about 90% finished with that Roger Smith Winamp skin I was working on. My Black and White game hasn't progressed much, and my villagers are rapidly losing faith in me. The little insects. The reason why I can't take over any more villages is because I'm so busy taking care of my village, and this is the thanks I get?! Who would have guessed that being a god would be such a drag? XP
Um. Yesterday Carlo came home with a used Dreamcast and a copy of Soul Calibur. So we played that for a few rounds. It's a fun game. "...But the soul still burns!" ^_^
And today we actually ate lunch out and did stuff. And I went to Kinokuniya, and finally managed to get my hands on X 16. Ek. I'd forgotten it was an almost all-Subaru-and-Seishirou volume. :P I also got the first volume of Time Stranger Kyoko, and the first volume of Candidate for Goddess.
Anyway. Lets see if I can get some drawing done. Maybe.

*smirk* Keheheheh. >:D
*pfff* Bwahahaha!! XD I'm sorry, they're just so cute and silly. ^o^ This artist really draws the most adorable chibi-ish art; check out the rest of her Harry Potter stuff in the "Junk" section.
We had my uncle over for dinner, so I didn't get to watch the new Voyager. We taped it, though. I really hope this one doesn't turn out as stupid as the previous Voyager-Q episodes have been; especially if this is De Lancie's last Star Trek appearance. >_<
I'll be playing more Black and White later. I named my monkey god Chu-Chu. >:D

Damn it all. What's happened to all my late night TV? Star Trek? Millennium? Where did you all go all of a sudden? ;__;
Anyway, I might as well use the spare time to write in here. The past couple of days I've mostly been:

I've got a secret
Dammit. Why won't Napster work? Work, blast you! I'm reduced to using what I used to look for MP3s before Napster: Audiofind.com. -_-;;;
By the way, Carlo and I finally went to see SpyKids yesterday. It was cute. ^-^ But I was kinda disappointed that the kid's TV show guy didn't turn out to be evil. IMO it takes a sinister and twisted mind to come up with stuff like Teletubbies and Pee-Wee's Playhouse. But this guy did have a song written by Danny Elfman, so maybe he wasn't that bad.

Faith, you might be interested in this: somebody on one of my mailing lists says that Alan Rickman has been approached to play Sherlock Holmes in an upcoming movie. That should be cool, if it's true. ^^

Today I added trackers to Icarus Falls, Hidden Agenda, and my Van shrine.
I also managed to download the original Japanese opening of The Big O. It's so weird and stupid that it's kind of cool. And now it's stuck in my head. You can find it here, along with a bunch of other stuff you might find worth downloading (check out the Superfriends crossover in the Powerpuff Girls section! XD)
And, I still have not managed to come up with a decent title for this blog. >_<
.......
"BIG O! BIG O BIG O BIG OOOOOO!!!"

Yeesh. I was just flipping through channels, and I caught the very tail end of some 80's movie called "American Ninja". From what I could discern, it was about some... American ninja who had to fight off a bunch of evil ninjas, while trying to rescue a screaming girl from some evil rich Spanish guy. But get this: according to the description in the guide thingy, it's set in the Philippines. O_O I'm surprised I haven't heard of this movie before. The ninjas actually weren't the crappiest-looking ninjas I'd ever seen in a movie; but it was pretty darn funny seeing these ninjas running around what looked like a classy Tagaytay country club. XD
Which reminds me... we haven't watched our tape of "Legacy" yet. XD

Ohhh... myyy... Goddddd!!! This is the most precious page ever! You must visit this page immediately and click on the "pics" link! Go! Go! Look at Power Puff Astroboy! And Power Puff Utena, and Lain, and Chacha! And Roger from Big O looks like Professor Utonium! And Akio drawn like Him, and Him drawn like Akio! Wheeheeheeheeheehee!! 8D

My scanner is acting up. Damn it all to hell. Take a look at this monument to my late-night scanner frustration. (The greenish-yellow bar on the side is the part that's the scanner's fault, by the way.)

Look! I drew Android Girl from The Big O on oekaki! I think I'll continue to refer to her as Android Girl, to avoid confusing her with Dorothy from Akazukin Chacha. Hm... am I obsessed yet? ^_^
Wednesday, April 4, 2001
I found out today that The Big O is showing on Cartoon Network! Yay! ^-^ I just watched the third episode. The actress they have doing Dorothy the android girl's voice is pretty good, but I can't say I'm too happy with the guy doing Roger Smith's voice. And "Cast in the name of God, Ye not guilty" is a pretty goofy catch phrase to begin with... but why did they have to change it to "Cast in the name of Good"? Is "God" a dirty word now?! @_@ At any rate, I'll probably be tuning in to that show regularly. ^^

AAAAAGH!!! Somebody help me think up a new title for this weblog!!! @_@
Tuesday, April 3, 2001
Okay. Here is a summary of what happened at my first anime con, Fanime 2001.
Day 1 (Friday):
After Carlo and I arrived and got our badges and stuff, we checked out the swapmeet thing. Then we went to the opening ceremonies, but ducked out before the end to line up for the dealers room. After waiting in line almost an hour, we spent 3 hours wandering around the dealers room.
Items I bought:
Anyway we ate a hurried lunch at around 4:30, then watched the hillarious Eva parody film, "ReDeath", and then another parody called "Fanboy Bebop".
And just before we had to leave, we swung by the Artist's Alley, and who should I meet there but Sae and Tochi, selling their artwork. Cool. ^_^
Day 2 (Saturday):
We arrived at around 11. Carlo got into the line for the Dealer's Room, while I went straight upstairs to watch two episodes of The Big O. I really liked it - it was kind of like James Bond meets Batman the animated series meets Giant Robo. I love the art style, and the black-suited main guy and android girl are cool.
When that was over, I wandered out and bought a slice of pizza and and a plastic cup filled with ice and a few drops of Sprite. I sat there eating leisurely, and decided to call Carlo on his celphone to find out where he was. He told me he was still in line for the Dealer's Room, and that I had better get down there quick if I wanted to get in. O_O So I rushed down there, and Carlo was practically at the front of the line; I only had to wait about a minute to get in. We didn't spend nearly as much time in there as yesterday, but we made big purchases. I bought an beautiful Akazukin Chacha cel, and Carlo bought a cel of Lord Yupa from Nausicaa at a pretty good price for a Miyazaki cel.
Later, we went to Hiroyuki Yamaga's panel, and then to Kunihiko Ikuhara's panel. Ikuhara started by commenting how glad he was that there were so many cute girls in the audience. ^_^;;; The room was full of Utena cosplayers. When asked things like "What is Miki timing?" and "Why did Utena turn into a car?" he would say things like "I've been wondering that myself," or "That's a very good question. Top secret." The only straight answer he gave was to say that Juri was the girl in the boat in the movie. ^^;;;
Later on, while I was hanging around Sae and Tochi's Artist Alley table, when Jey Kama happened by. O__O Yes, the Jey Kama who's been one of my artistic idols for ages. I was so stunned that all I managed to say was: "You're Jey Kama?" -_-;;
Anyway, after that Carlo and I watched the first two episodes of Inu-Yasha. The picture quality was really horrible; it turned out that they were Windows Media files downloaded from the internet. -_-;;; Then we watched the last 1.5 episodes of Cowboy Bebop. Prior to that, we'd only seen up to episode 14. Going straight to eps. 25-26 wasn't really much of a spoiler, actually. I mean, I knew *someone* was going to die; in fact, I thought all of them were going to die. And those episodes didn't answer anything like where Faye came from or how Jet got his mechanical arm or what happened to Ed and Ein, so I still have to watch the rest of the episodes anyway.
Anyway, right after that we went to watch the finals of the Music Video contest, until about midnight, when we went home.
Day 3 (Sunday):
We arrived at about 9 in the morning, to get in line early for Yamaga's and Ikuhara's autograph. I got Ikuhara to sign the E-Graphics card thingy I bought on the first day. Carlo got him to draw a Chu-chu on his card. ^^
Items I bought:
Umm... And then yesterday (Monday) we went out for dinner with my uncle. And then today (Tuesday) we walked to Kinokuniya, and they still didn't have X 16. And then I finished typing what happened during Fanime, and that pretty much brings us up to date as of this moment...
