I hate every ape I see, from chimpan-A to chimpan-Z! You'll never make a monkey out of me!

Planet of the Apes ROCKED. Plot? Dialogue? Who the hell cares? This movie had talking apes!!! ^0^ And I don't care what Carlo says, I thought the thing between Mark Wahlberg and Helena Bonham Apegirl was cute. Although there had to be something wrong with her if she found him more attractive than that evil Tim Roth chimp guy. XD

And this movie did add another entry to our collection of classic stupid lines: "You go this way, you go that way, and the rest of you come with me!" XDDDDDDD

A sudden, random thought: "Planet of the Snapes". Make of that what you will.

Hm... The Hunchback of Notre Dame is on the Disney Channel. I used to love that movie when I was younger; now watching it again, the only part I still like is Frollo's Hellfire number. ^_- I guess it seemed better before I read the book. ^^

Urrrrggghh... shut up, stupid gargoyles, SHUT UP!!!

One of our outdoor cats gave birth again last Saturday -- two teensy little mouse-sized kittens. The mother, Anakin, is a small cat herself; but this is like her umpteenth litter. I guess we really do need to get her spayed soon, before our tribe of orange-and-white cats grows any larger... ^_^;;;

Ahh, Cadfael week is over... T_T It was so neat having that show on every night, too. Must... buy... DVDs... someday. ^_^;;

I stayed up most of last night finishing the first chapter of my thesis (and, miraculously, managing to finish everything well before the deadline ^^). While looking through Japanese Harry Potter fanart to distract myself, I happened to look at some of my older pictures of Snape with a goatee. I guess I've finally gotten used to the idea of a goatee-less Snape, because seeing him with one again was rather jarring. ^_^;;

Nevertheless, there's still a part of me that misses the goatee look. So, last night, I managed to come up with an explanation to reconcile the two versions: the goatee'd Snape is the Mirror Universe Snape. >:DDD One day, during what should have been a "routine" Potions lesson, Harry, Ron, and Hermione are inexplicably whisked into a parallell universe where Voldemort won the war and is now Headmaster at Hogwarts. In this Hogwarts, Snape is Asssistant Headmaster, and has a goatee for some unfathomable reason; other than that, he's basically the same Snape, only perhaps less cranky. All female students are made to wear midriff-baring uniforms, and we learn that Hermione has rock-hard abs. XDD Eventually the trio manage to convince this world's Snape to help them get back to their own universe. ^_______^

(Er... of course, you need to have seen or at least heard of the classic Star Trek episode "Mirror, Mirror", or else I've just wasted a joke. ^^;; )

Oh, I almost forgot... Last night I was flipping through channels, and I came across some local movie review show. Nothing particularly remarkable about it, except... they were playing Tank! over and over again in the background and leading in and out of commercials. Yes, Tank! the opening theme of Cowboy Bebop. >__< And the movie reviewers were this annoying vapid guy and girl. They gave Bridget Jones' Diary 2 out of 5 'cause the main character was too "neurotic"; and yet for some reason the the neuroses of the main character in Ally McBeal they find "lovable"! Dorks. They also said the movie was "unoriginal"... IT'S CALLED LITERARY HOMAGE, YOU TWITS! Though I doubt they would know their Jane Austen from their Jenna Elfman. 9_9 Mga walanghiya, ripping off Yoko Kanno... *fume*

And Carlo is at the beach this weekend, the lucky bastard. I haven't been to the beach in ages... T__T

Oh well, gotta go. Cadfael's on in a few minutes. *__*

Holy Crap! I haven't watched Lupin III on TV for ages because I thought they were still showing the crappy 3rd series. Then I just happened to tune in tonight, and they were showing the BEST EPISODE EVER! The one that I kicked myself for not taping before! Most of the episode is just Goemon running around being cool; other highlights include Lupin and Goemon beating the living boogers out of each other, Jigen and Fujiko smoking together(!!!), and that funky kabuki-style character introduction at the end. My absolute favorite episode! I managed to tape around half of it. ^^

Today I found out I had to read this book "Ella Enchanted" for my Children's Lit class in the afternoon. So after my first class ended at noon, I had to go to the library and xerox the entire copy that was in the reserve section (eek! Copyright infringement! ^^;;). And I started reading, and amazingly enough, I was done in time for my class at 4:30. Phew!

Anyway, it was a great book. I actually kind of liked Ella's asshole dad, though I kept picturing him as the Count from Castle of Cagliostro (either that or Gendo Ikari). And the ogres in the story were bad, but I kept picturing them as Shrek! Hey, ogres are like onions; they have layers! :P

Seriously though, I really loved the book. But now I'm all inspired to push through with the manga idea I had before, which was my own version of Cinderella. Wondering what that's like? Hint: the title would be something like "Mysterious Magical Princess Cinderella", and would involve lots of transformation sequences. XD

It's a freaking miracle: other people who just don't see Kurama and Hiei as a couple! No offense meant to Kurama/Hiei fans, but I've watched all ten kazillion episodes of Yu Yu Hakusho, and there's more evidence for Yusuke/Kuwabara than there is for Kurama/Hiei. O_O

Also, this site has the cutest main image ever. ^_^

And this week must be Cadfael week or something. I find out that there's another episode on tomorrow night, and another one on Wednesday. Wheeee! *___*

Oh yeah... somebody sent these to a mailing list I'm on. The cool spell things from that old Visionaries cartoon. You know... "Visionariiiies... Knights of the magic of light..." Anyway, these spell things were my favorite part of that show.

"Whispered secrets of a shattered age,
I summon you, renew this sage."

"A whim, a thought, and more is sought,
Awake, my mind, thy will be wrought."

"The arrows turn, the swords rebel,
May nothing pierce this mortal shell."

"Sheathe these feet in the driving gale,
Make swift these legs, o'er land I sail."

"By nature's hand, by craft, by art,
What once was one, now fly apart."

"By what creeps, what crawls, by what does not,
Let all that grows recede and rot."

Neat, huh? ^_^

Oh God... that Sakurazuka person comes immediately after me on the CLAMP blogs ring?! Now I know she was put on this earth solely to annoy me. -_-;;;

Anyway, when did I last write? Tuesday? Geez, I've been lazy. ^^;;; Well, let's see... on Thursday, to get to our film class, Saki and I had to walk all the way from the Library to the Comm Department in the pouring rain. We both had umbrellas, not that they were of any use. We showed up for class soaking wet to the waist. Eeeeeewwww. XP

And National Bookstore is all sold out of The Canterbury Tales and Franz Kafka's The Metamorphosis. Who exactly has been buying these things?! O_O

And today we found what seems to be an injured bird outside the house. I'm not sure what kind of bird it is; it's bright blue-green and has a long pointy beak. We're keeping it in a basket and trying to feed it fruit-flavored baby food; but I dunno what else to do.

Well, yesterday was a very strange, but not altogether unpleasant, day. I had two Major Things To Be Done: a long test in History first thing in the morning, and the Review of Related Literature for my thesis to be submitted by 4:30. And due to working on the latter, I wasn't able to study for the former as much as I would have liked. Fortunately, the test turned out to be easy; and due to suddenly-cancelled classes and other strange coincidences, I was actually able to complete the required 5 pages of my thesis thingy, and even come up with a title, in time.

And so in the evening I was able to go out with Saki and watch Jurassic Park III. ^__^ And of course, I have my long rant about, among other things, how Spinosaurus was a dweeby fish-eating dinosaur that couldn't possibly have gone up against T-Rex without getting its ass kicked; but I'll spare you my old-school dinosaur nerd babble. For now, at least. Suffice to say, this movie proves beyond doubt that the most dangerous dinosaur of all is Barney. ^-^ You know what I mean.

Also, be on the lookout for Jurassic Park IV: Planet of the Raptors! XD

And today, we have no classes. One benefit of attending a Jesuit school is that you always get St. Ignatius Day off. ^_^

James Robinson on the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen movie.

.......

.....Okay, I think I hate this movie now.

Miss Murray, a "sexually ambivalent vampire girl"?! *Has sudden snicker-inducing visions of Miss Murray in an Utena costume* Gee, I like how this guy thinks that a woman who can lead a bunch of men must be some kind of she-male. 9_9 And excuse me, I happen to find Murray and Quatermain and Jekyll quite sympathetic. As for Griffin and Hyde... well, okay, they're psycopaths. But they are what I like to call "lovably unsympathetic". ^^;; As for Nemo, well... he's just cool. ^_^

I had a feeling, though, that they would try to get rid of Fu Manchu and all the other racist stereotypes. But part of the fun of LOEG is how it discreetly makes fun of the Victorian world view. The whole story is like a parody of British imperialist sentiment. Five of the Empire's Finest are assembled to defend England from an evil foreign menace; but the "Empire's Finest" are monsters and misfits themselves, and the foreigner, though indeed evil, isn't nearly as bad as the British guy they're working for!

The preface to the LOEG hardcover, addressed to "children of vanquished and colonised nations the world o'er", reminds us of the three moral lessons we could glean from the story: "Firstly, women are always going on and making a fuss. Secondly, the Chinese are brilliant, but evil. Lastly, laudanum, taken in moderation is good for the eyesight and prevents kidney-stones." ^0^ Come on now, isn't that FUNNY? But I suppose such humor would be lost on American movie audiences. -_-;;;

Okay, so basically they're gonna cut out a lot of the plot and make the thing more politically correct -- no more than you would expect from most movie adaptations. But then there's... Tom Sawyer??? What possible use could Tom Sawyer be? You've already got the brains of the group (that's Murray), the "man of action" normal guy without superpowers (Quatermain), the brooding genius with all the hardware (Nemo), the asshole (Griffin), the muscle (Hyde), and the kindly but useless "Counselor Troi" type (Jekyll). So who the hell is Tom Sawyer going to be? The token American? Yeesh. >_<

James Robinson, huh? I thought I read in Wizard that they were getting rid of this guy and looking for a different scriptwriter. Let's hope it comes true. Or at least, let them get rid of Tom Sawyer. Please God, let them get rid of Tom Sawyer. T_T

Oh well, at least I can console myself with news of the next LOEG comic series. ^__^ (It's here, somewhere... scroll down... it's mentioned obliquely... there ya go.)

Heh. We went to see Tomb Raider. I found it pretty entertaining. ^_^ Carlo says lots of people have been reviewing it negatively; I can't see why. I mean, what, you were expecting a PLOT? This is based on TOMB RAIDER, remember? The game where the girl with the big boobies runs around and shoots stuff?

But anyway. How come nobody told me Rimmer from Red Dwarf played Lara Croft's butler?! I spent most of the movie waiting impatiently for him to appear again, just so I could point and go RIMMER!!! *____*

Well, after the movie, we had dinner at a freakish restaurant called "The Kitchen". You sit on benches at these long wooden tables, elbow-to-elbow with people you're not with, just like in a crowded school cafeteria. They have weird dishes with weird names (I had "Like a Fish in Water" -- cold soba, grilled salmon, seaweed, and soy-ginger sauce). The bathroom has black curtains on the door and a tall mirror over the toilet. Water is served out of a long-necked bottle with leaves in it. And the bill comes rolled up in a shot glass. It's like an insane alternate dimension! We have to go there again. ^^

Carlo showed me some downloaded trailers and footage and things for Final Fantasy X. One of the trailers had subtitles and a rather dopey English voiceover (and a voice saying "product not yet rated" at the end XD ). I'm sorry, but the whole thing sounds like a bizzare religious allegory.

Tydus: "It all began here, with SIN!"
Narrator: "Tydus and Yuna join together to confront SIN."
Yuna: "I must defeat SIN!"

It's all so Dantean, I swear. XD

At any rate, though, I'm actually really excited for the game now. I'm never usually all that excited over new Final Fantasies or RPGs in general; it's Carlo who plays them, I just watch. Sometimes. But the graphics are so gorgeous, and the little snippets of scenes that I watched seem really interesting. Could I possibly be turning into a *GASP* ... Final Fantasy fangirl?

Thursday, July 19, 2001

I've been losing a ton of sleep this week. Last Sunday and Monday I stayed up past 4 in the morning, working on part of the introduction to my thesis, which we had to submit at least 5 pages of. It was actually due at 4:30 Monday afternoon; but I wasn't finished by that time, so I decided to submit it the following morning. I figured I'd get a deduction for turning it in late, but it was better than a deduction for a shoddy, incomplete paper.

Anyway, by Tuesday morning I was bleary-eyed, my dog had died, I had a class to attend and my yearbook photo-shoot after that, and the damn paper was still only 4 1/5 pages long, with extra character spacing at that. I decided, to heck with it, I have to submit it anyway. So I did.

Then this morning I had my meeting with my thesis advisor. I was dreading it. What I'd written seemed so lame and ill-organized, and it was submitted too short and too late. So I go in to see my advisor, she pulls out the paper I submitted, and she says, "I really enjoyed reading it. You got an A."

O____O

All I could think to say was, "Oh, thank you." ^^;;

So anyway, today was a pretty good day. ^____^

The entry I wrote earlier didn't get posted! What the hell?!

Well, OK. My dog Sophia died this morning. She was a very sweet dog. I've had her for about 13 or 14 years. When I was a kid and she was a puppy, I named her after the oldest of the Golden Girls. Funnily enough, she ended up being the longest-lived of all our dogs and pets.

And Dad died a month ago yesterday. Hm.

In other news, I had my yearbook picture-taking today. I swear I have the hardest time smiling for photographs. I smile what I think is a normal smile, and it's invisible. The photographer today kept asking me for a BIG smile. It felt like I was snarling at a rabid dog. I'm just not a natural smiler, I guess.

And a little earlier, I caught the Philippine version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire? on TV. The set, lighting, and camera angles are all exactly like the American version. A lot of the questions seem to be the same, too; except they have questions like having to arrange 4 Aga Mulach films from earliest to latest. XD

Well, today I finally got to go to that fancy-shmancy new mall that for some reason is known as Power Plant. Nice place. Didn't get to look around much, though. We were there to see Atlantis, that movie that everybody in the entire world except me has already seen.

Well, it was cool. ^_^ And except for a couple of little details, it really did not follow the Disney plot formula at ALL. It didn't seem all that much like Nadia either; but I know very little of Nadia, so I shouldn't really judge. What I want to know is how come every Disney villain, no matter what the personality or motivation, always, ALWAYS becomes an axe-wielding maniac at the end. @_@ Gaston? "BELLE IS MINE" *grr hack slash* Frollo? "KILL ALL HEATHENS" *grr hack slash* That guy in Tarzan? "DIE TARZAN" *grr hack slash* It's insane!

Heh heh... Leonard Nimoy. >:)

And watching all those submarines and things has got me excited to see the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen movie. THE NAUTILUS! I ask you, what could be cooler than a giant, squid-shaped super-submarine? ^____^

Carlo and I went to see Final Fantasy the day it opened, last Wednesday. We spent the rest of the evening and the next day snickering about it. XD Oh, it wasn't bad... The graphics were gorgeous, of course. And the story had its interesting moments; but we were far more entertained by its cheesy moments. >:D There was the general guy in his black leather coat, who you could tell was evil just by looking at him... and that whole "Aliens" crew who you could tell were going to die just by looking at them... and the corny romance, and... "...I'll send you all to HELL!!!" XD And the none-too-subtle product placement for Pepsi in that one scene... hmm, for some reason I have a sudden urge to drink PEPSI. ^0^

Hmm... I had a bunch more stuff to write, but it all seems to have slipped my mind. Good night.

Today in Theology class I was suddenly reminded of Black and White. We were discussing Free Will and Concupiscence and things like that, and the teacher asked something like, "If you have a toothache, is it God's fault?" I suddenly had visions of little villagers going "Toothpaste! We must have toothpaste~!"

Stupid villagers. There's one village in particular that really annoys me. The people keep crying out for offspring and houses. And since they cut down their entire forest, they're all out of wood! STOP ASKING ME FOR WOOD! What, do I look like I'm made of wood? And make your own damn offspring, for crying out loud! You'd think if there was one thing people didn't need help with, it would be making babies. 9_9

Anyway, this village is so grossly overpopulated, and the people just mill around and cry for wood. Finally I got fed up with it, and started smiting a bunch of them with lightning bolts. So for a little while at least, they stopped yelling "Wood!" and instead yelled "Mercy!" >:D

Up to now I've done my best to be a good god. But with Chu-chu frozen in the enemy village, I don't have to worry about setting a good example for him; and so I find myself using more... drastic methods, such as the abovementioned lightning bolts. @_@

I had a blog entry all typed and ready to go yesterday, but the prepaid internet card ran out on me. Thank God we're supposed to have our cable installed on Sunday. @_@

Anyway, my dog Sophia is staying over at the vet until Saturday. We had a choice of giving her the medicine at home, or keeping her over there. I'm worried that she might be nervous in an unfamiliar environment; but at least there she'll have a nice warm cage all to herself, without two rambunctious young dogs bothering her or trying to eat her food.

Poor Sophia. She's around 13 years old, which is pretty old for a dog, I think. She was always very meek and mild-mannered, and old age has made her even more so. But she still seems to have life in her.

In the meantime, our new puppy Pichu is doing very well. When I first met her at my grandmother's house, she was so small and timid, from being overshadowed by her two rowdy brothers. But now, in our all-female-dog community, she's as lively as anything. And she knows how to shake hands.

In other news, Saki has already gone to see Atlantis without me. Carlo has also gone to see Atlantis without me. I hate them. I hate you all, who are reading this and can go out and watch movies.

And I still can't find my markers and my good colored pencils, so I can't even draw anything. Bwiset.

    Well, sorry I've been silent the past week or so. Actually, I've come down with… THE POX. Yes, it seems everyone else except me has already had this wonderful disease called CHICKEN POX. From Tuesday to Friday, I was pretty much either in my bed or on our couch, sleeping or watching TV. Well, now I feel fine, and I no longer have a fever, but... I'm still unbathed and covered in spots and sitting around in my pajamas the whole day. And I still. Can't. Go. OUT!!! I can't go to classes. I can't go to the mall. I can't go to the theatre to watch Evolution or Tomb Raider or Atlantis. For. Another. Whole. Freaking. WEEK!!! X_____x;;;;;;

    My face is so hideously disgusting now, you have no idea. My mother will not kiss my face. People avert their eyes when they speak to me. My beloved cat Tigger flees in terror from the sight of my face.

    At any rate, if at any point during the next week I start leaving blog entries like "I am the Cheese Matrix! I AM THE CHEESE MATRIX!!!" you'll know that my confinement has finally destroyed my sanity.

    mini-F.I.Q:
    Q: What is the title of this blog?
    A: It's called Kurozukin, which means "black hood", and which was taken from the character Kurozukin Yakko, in the anime series Akazukin Chacha. Does that make any sense to you?

    Q: How do I comment on something you wrote?
    A: You can sign the guestbook here, or click on that little link under each entry.

    Q: I came here searching for Hojo Tokimune! What gives?
    A: Look through my archives; I ramble quite a bit about various episodes and characters. Plus, I scanned some pictures from the book, which you can find here.
