Wednesday, October 30, 2002 Watching some new Harry Potter clips at CountingDown.com. You know that wave of new Snape fans that cropped up after Alan Rickman played him in the movie? I predict something similar for Lockhart after Chamber of Secrets. You've got to love Kenneth Brannagh, he's so cornball. XD Martians attacked at 11:16 p.m.! I am currently drawing on the second to last page in my sketchbook. I remember exactly when I started this sketchbook: it was in December of last year, in Baguio, while sitting on the hotel bed watching that silly Christopher Lambert Beowulf movie on television. It has taken me ten months to finish one sketchbook. I find that kind of sad.
In other news which I have failed to mention for several days now, I signed up for National Novel Writing Month. So it seems I'll probably be doing even less drawing during the month of November. ^^ Martians attacked at 04:00 p.m.! Where were you? ~ Tuesday, October 29, 2002 *copious amounts of drool accompanied by sounds of hyperventilation* Oooh... me likee them purdy DVD boxes. Omigod, Sorata's wearing a winter school uniform, and SNEAKERS. And those little Lego dragons... *dies* Tee hee, Kamui's arms are grotesquely long in that one picture. You know, the one where he's NAKED. Martians attacked at 02:31 a.m.! Where were you? ~ Sunday, October 27, 2002 Icarus Falls is updated with the Halloween layout. I kinda like the one this year, mwahaha. >:D Be sure to check the Updates page as well. And please let me know if it looks weird at different resolutions (I made it for 1024x768). What is that? Is that even a real person? It looks like a CG model. Is that real hair, or were those bangs painted on? Why does the picture have lines on it as if from an old film reel, when cinema wasn't supposed to be invented at the time? And WHERE'S THE SCARF, DAMMIT? *reads Talkback* ...oh wait, it's a fake. It's apparently a fanart from here. Whew. But what's sad is that the real thing will probably be cheesier-looking. :P
Actually, what's sad is that Richard Harris died. Damn it. I know I had issues with his performance as Dumbledore, but I thought the guy himself was pretty cool. Martians attacked at 05:48 p.m.! Where were you? ~ Saturday, October 26, 2002

These sorts of things are a never-ending source of amusement. XD They fight crime!
"He's a maverick umbrella-wielding senator trapped in a world he never made. She's a ditzy hypochondriac research scientist prone to fits of savage, blood-crazed rage."
"He's a bookish sweet-toothed ex-con with acid for blood. She's a transdimensional cigar-chomping mechanic from a secret island of warrior women."
"He's a genetically engineered crooked cat burglar who must take medication to keep him sane. She's an artistic blonde journalist who hides her beauty behind a pair of thick-framed spectacles."
"He's a benighted pirate filmmaker possessed of the uncanny powers of an insect. She's a beautiful winged vampire descended from a line of powerful witches."
"He's a genetically engineered moralistic cyborg with a passion for fast cars. She's a foxy tempestuous angel on the trail of a serial killer."
"He's an immortal overambitious paranormal investigator from the Mississippi delta. She's a cold-hearted impetuous politician from aristocratic European stock."
And, the Point Horror Generator. "Mina is a normal girl in CLAMP Gakuen and is friends with Lucy and Ingrid. She has a terrible fear of toenail clippers. One day she hears a oral epic about George Bush who is famous because he's POTTED the shrimps and SMASHED the eggs in their cups underneath the table~! and linked with Mina eerily because their
phone numbers are one digit apart! A little while after she meets Frodo who is the coolest guy in CLAMP Gakuen and yet likes her. They decide to go to the
Policeman's Ball together. But she soon begins to be afraid of George Bush who seems to be after her blood. She finds toenail clippers in her pocket and in her
house. She finds letters scrawled, signed by George Bush, threatening her with death. Ingrid starts acting strangely, she suspects Frodo and her arch-enemy Fujiko,
who seems intent on stealing her spotlight and Frodo from her. One night, Mina is alone with Lucy in the hot springs and very nervous because she is on the look out
for George Bush, as well as avoiding Frodo, Ingrid, and Fujiko. Suddenly, Lucy reveals that their phone numbers are one digit apart!, and then attacks Mina with a
naked anime character, and Mina is forced to fight back with a monkey. Lucy appears to be stopped momentarily at least, so Mina runs away and is found by
Frodo and Ingrid who has a perfectly rational explanation for her strange behaviour. Lucy dies horribly and Frodo and Mina go to the Policeman's Ball together, much to the dismay of Fujiko. THE END." Romantic? I keep thinking of the scene in Minority Report with Tom Cruise chasing a bouncing eyeball down a corridor. >XD But don't mind me; I just like to make fun of characters, even my favorite ones.
Spent a good few minutes snickering over the results I got from this page... until this came up and my brain broke. X___x Cor, that looked just like a negative reality inversion! <-- Ah, The Young Ones, a shining bastion of sanity.
Have been pondering over who that light-haired person is in the "secret" Kingdom Hearts sequel preview. It's apparently not Sora. The hair is much too fine to be Riku, and besides that other long-haired person resembles Riku much more. And it's probably not Kairi, although it would be nice if she could actually DO stuff for a change. -__- My ultimate conclusion? It's Raiden from Metal Gear Solid 2. Yup. Kingdom Hearts had a pretty good ending. Not as sad as FFX, not as happy as Disney... very open-ended, really. Mickey needs to DIE, though, for appearing in an annoying way after all the hard work was already done by ME! Talk about a deus ex mauschina.
Things that need to be in Kingdom Hearts 2:

Wow! I think I love Sephiroth! How can you resist a guy whose theme music repeats his name over and over in Gregorian chant? Or maybe I hate him, because he's so scary and hard to beat. Damn you, Sephiroth! Damn you and your theme music!
Oh yeah, and I got X18 today. Poor Karen. Poor, poor Nataku. Subaru looks good with his new old hairstyle, but I still think he's a dork for taking that eye. Sometime around midnight, the power went out. I was the only one to notice, since I was the only one awake. Carlo had gone to bed, and Mom was asleep on the living room couch. I woke her briefly to tell her that the power had gone out, and that I was leaving a flashlight for her beside the couch. This was one of the two working flashlights I was able to find in the entire house. Fortunately, the moon was incredibly bright.
I took a shower quickly, trying to preserve the flickering flashlight's batteries. What I was mostly worried about was what I was going to do if the power didn't come back. No power=no TV, computer, or light to read or draw by. It was way too early for me to go to sleep. Imagine if I went to bed at 1, I'd be up by 9 in the morning! My whole schedule would be screwed up.
After my shower, I walked around, unplugging things and checking the locks on the doors. The moon really was amazingly bright. I was just starting to wonder if I could draw by moonlight, when suddenly the power came back on. I guess now we'll never know. Martians attacked at 01:43 a.m.! Where were you? ~ Monday, October 21, 2002 We can all learn things from Star Trek. For instance, from this episode I've learned that all you need to do to communicate with someone telepathically is to stare at them intensely as the camera zooms in first on your face and then on theirs! Oh my God, The Daily Show is on CNN! O___O And Star Trek TNG is back on Star World! I love television!
Tonight we had dinner with the whole family at Gloria Maris, and there happened to be a huge wedding reception at the same time. There was a terribly cheesy program with lots of singing (in Chinese) and an annoying MC introducing the bride and groom and all the parents and sponsors and bridesmaids with descriptions like, "she loves kids and dogs and is intelligent and humble" or "he is a golfer and he loves fish", and asking everyone to give them a "beeg round of applause". The funny thing was that there also seemed to be another program going on on the second floor. And so our table was in the perfect location to hear the strains of a little old lady singing a Chinese ballad in a high-pitched but surprisingly powerful voice, mixing in with somebody belting out a Ronan Keating song off-key. It was all quite surreal. Martians attacked at 11:45 p.m.! Where were you? ~ Saturday, October 19, 2002
Okay, it's not bad-looking... but honestly, "LXG"?? @___@ Well, it makes good sense from a marketing perspective that they would try to render the long-ass title in a catchy shorthand... and I suppose they figured that anything with an "X" in it would be a sure sell. -__-;;;; But honestly. You'd think that since it's a movie about classic literature, they could at least try and spell things properly.
And where's the little question-mark-head man? HUH? Where is he? Now that guy was a great logo. Martians attacked at 01:57 p.m.! Where were you? ~ Thursday, October 17, 2002
Wow, Hellsing sure is a thought-provoking series! Just watching episode 7, I had to pause the player so I could figure out, "Okay, if Captain Hook is after Tiger Lily and Integral=Wendy, does that mean that Seras=Tiger Lily and Anderson=Captain Hook? And does that make Alucard=Peter Pan?" If you keep in mind that I had played the Neverland bit in Kingdom Hearts mere hours before, you might understand how surreal this was. The bit where Alucard goes, "What are you, then? A human? *bang* A dog? *bang* A monster? *bang*" I go, "No, he's CAPTAIN HOOK!" wheeeee
Also, "You Romans haven't changed a bit in 2000 years!" is a precious line. Go, Alucard! Show them uppity Pope-kissers who's boss! (Note: am Catholic, please don't kill me)
And in other news, there is a Little Endless statue set. Go to Neil Gaiman's blog and scroll down to Monday, October 14 to see the picture. Oh God. I can't stand it. THEY MUST BE MINE. The Halloween Town level in Kingdom Hearts is way too short. Why couldn't it have been one of those long-ass complicated ones like the Agrabah level? And Jack, why don't you ever listen to Sally? And WHY can't Amazon ship the Nightmare Before Christmas Special Edition DVD within 24 hours? Come to think of it, why did my previous copy of said DVD turn itself into a drink coaster after just one lousy viewing? WHYYYYY~???
Today (technically yesterday; but it's still today to me as long as I haven't gone to sleep yet) was relaxing. Drew a bit, and played a lot of Kingdom Hearts. Also, my Lola had surgery on one of her eyes; the other eye was done last week. That seems to have gone well; so hopefully we can finally give her books for Christmas. ^^;; Martians attacked at 02:22 a.m.! Where were you? ~ Wednesday, October 16, 2002
Okay, I was right. I found weirder stuff. Gladiator 4-koma. XD
Humanoid Jack and Sally scares the living daylights out of me. Let this be a warning to the powers that be to never, EVER, make a Broadway musical version of Nightmare Before Christmas. Are we seriously talking about Sherlock Holmes/Arsene Lupin fanart and doujinshi? O___o This isn't some manga series I've missed out on, is it? This is THE Sherlock Holmes and Arsene Lupin?
There are some pictures where he's Traditional!Holmes... and some pictures where he's Bishounen!Holmes... but I think Chibi!Holmes has broken my brain. (This from the girl who draws League of Extraordinary Gentlemen chibis...)
It's truly amazing what you find, surfing Japanese fanart sites. If I go through Tinami I'll probably find even weirder stuff. ^^;; Martians attacked at 11:43 p.m.! Where were you? ~ Monday, October 14, 2002
Shouldn't be surfing. Shouldn't be blogging. Shouldn't be slacking off. Should be working on final paper for Philippine Lit class due tomorrow. BUT I DON'T WANT TO. Eric Gamalinda can KISS MY BUTT! HAHA! Only, you know, not literally, because that would be gross.
Cool! X/1899 designs! ^___^ I think it was Lashtal who said about Sorata wearing bowlers and having a cockney accent, but I definitely agree. ^_^ Aoki and Karen are looking very sharp (did she just step out of the Moulin Rouge? ^.^). And the robe suits Subaru, though I'm not sure if a clergyman would be the equivalent of an onmyouji? And the Fuuma glasses look really cool. Got to play a little more Kingdom Hearts tonight. Carlo's been too busy to play it all week, so I guess if I'm to see the rest of the game anytime soon I'll have to play it myself. ^^;; It's pretty fun; although it is also full of all that trying-to-jump-at-the-right-spot and having-to-smash-lots-of-barrels-in-succession and other tedious tasks which are the reason why I usually leave video game playing to people with skill and patience like Carlo, and just watch the cutscenes. ^^;;
Though I know the FF characters are alternate universe versions of themselves, I have to wonder a bit about the characterization of some of the Disney people. For instance, this little exchange:
Oh yeah, and I thought of this before: Kingdom Hearts is yet another example of the difference between Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. I once saw a cartoon where Donald was all dressed up for a date with Daisy, and then without provocation those damn chipmunks started messing with him. And then when he finally got back at them by putting them in hamster-wheels and making them drive him to Daisy's place, Daisy got mad at him for picking on the chipmunks. I thought, "Things like that would never happen to Mickey Mouse." Sure enough, the next cartoon was about Mickey oversleeping and being late for a date with Minnie, and then while rushing to meet her he fell into a garbage can, plus he forgot the tickets so Pluto had to come running after with them. And yet Minnie was still all impressed with him when he arrived. It just goes to show: Mickey gets all the glory and all the lucky breaks, while Donald just gets dumped on. Mickey got to be a sorceror's apprentice, while Donald had to shovel manure in Noah's Ark. And now in this game, Mickey gets to be king and disappear, leaving all the actual work to Donald. Poor old Donald.
Well, at least Donald has the prettier girlfriend. Minnie looks like Mickey in drag. Or wait... maybe she IS Mickey in drag! O___O Oh my God, I've just figured out what the big Kingdom Hearts plot twist will be. XD Martians attacked at 01:49 a.m.! Where were you? ~ Saturday, October 5, 2002 We won! WE WON! Ha haaa! By the way, last night I finally changed my Windows wallpaper from that tacky green LoEG one I made months ago, to this one from a great Japanese Hellsing fanart site. Seemed appropriate enough for the month of Halloween. ^^ Another great Japanese Hellsing fanart site is here.
On a less cheery note, somebody next door has acquired themselves some new chickens. Damn that rooster who keeps crowing outside my window at 3 in the afternoon and 5 in the damn morning! Whaaat! The Hellsing end theme is sung by Mr. Big? The same Mr. Big who did that "Ooh baby baby it's a wild world" song that was popular when I was in high school? @___@
I really really like Hellsing, though. As you can imagine, any anime that has Millennium-like secret societies defending London against nasty vampires in the name of God and Her Majesty is okee-day with me. ^^ I'm wondering if for the english dubbed version they'll all have British accents. Probably not. ;___;
Oh, and was that supposed to be the LAST episode of Saiyuki that showed earlier? ;_____; They never even got to the West! What a rip-off! Oh well, maybe now they'll re-show the first episodes and I can be a bit clearer on why exactly they were going to the West in the first place. ^^;;;
Speaking of Saiyuki, last night on the Disney channel I caught a bit of an old animated version of Journey to the West, which had Osamu Tezuka's name in the credits. O.o;; The story was tinkered with a bit for the dub, though -- Son Goku was called "Alakazam" and Sanzo the monk was Prince Something and the Goddess of Mercy was a Queen... And "Alakazam" had the voice of Speed Racer. XD Martians attacked at 08:19 p.m.! Where were you? ~ |
