I must have watched the Utena movie umpteen billion times already; and yet it's only NOW I notice that the jeep Juri, Miki, and Saionji are driving in that one scene is Wakaba?! O___O

By the way, my search is over. I have found an Escaflowne music video set to "Ordinary Day"! ^^ Now I just have to find the same song used for KareKano and Spirited Away. [Samurai Jack]My quest continues.[/Samurai Jack]

And I seem to have neglected to mention this, but Carlo did arrive home last Sunday night, after long, long hours on a bus. He brought with him many pictures of majestic green mountains and mysterious limestone caves tamed only by the tour groups that preceeded them.

I've added two new pages to that comic. And in completely unrelated news, experts agree that faceless misshapen background people are essential to one's health and that one should eat them up and not complain.

Carlo is currently (as of Wednesday night) off on an adventure through untamed remote mountain jungles and waterfalls. Well, maybe they're a little bit tamed. I'll have to ask him when he gets back.

It's amazing, I still can't find any anime music videos set to "Ordinary Day" by Vanessa Carlton. Just listening to it I'm reminded of every single sappy romantic anime I've ever seen. You'd think the song would spawn a million fluffy romantic videos of such series as KareKano! Escaflowne! Fushigi Yuugi! and Spirited Away! You know, just like how "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls spawned a million random vaguely angsty videos from such series as Evangelion and Utena. Anyway, I did find an Utena video set to "Bring Me To Life" last night, so I am appeased.

In other news, last night I saw that the official League of Extraordinary Gentlemen movie site is finally up. It looks okay. Does a decent job of informing Mr. and Mrs. Average Mundane Moviegoer who all these characters are, I think. I guess. Points given for using phrases like "extraordinary intelligence and courage" in Mina's profile. Points taken away for describing her main contribution to the team as her ability to bite people and talk to bats. Oh, and Nemo's attributes include "martial arts", because it's not cool enough to have your own submarine and invent hand-held semi-automatic harpoon guns, unless you KNOW KUNG FU!!!!!11 I couldn't work up the nerve to peek at the profiles of Tom Sawyer, Dorian Gray, or even Quatermain. Oh heck, I'd better take a look.

......AGH. Quatermain is NOT ARROGANT. He whines a lot in the comic, but the humility to acknowledge his own lameness is one of his more endearing traits. Hang on, I've just discovered this little subsection where it shows weird pseudo-scientific diagrams to explain the character's powers. So Quatermain apparently has super-duper telescope vision. Who knew? I'm afraid to check out Tom Sawyer's now; it'll probably say that he can shoot a laser beam from his navel or something.

Well, that was actually me trying to say that the website was fairly well put-together and actually restored in me some moderate excitement for this movie. Predictably, it turned into another whine-fest about all the stuff they've changed. You all saw that one coming, right? ^.^ Anyway, if you were patient enough to wade through that, I inflict present you with this amazing top secret clip from the as-yet-unreleased 5th Harry Potter movie! I translated it myself! And no, it's not especially funny or clever; if it was, I would have linked it at the beginning of this long-ass entry instead of at the end.

Went to comic shop today, but they didn't have much new. I ended up buying an issue of Newtype USA. The "Men of Saiyuki" centerfold promised on the cover turned out to be a rather ugly off-model pinup with the four guys shirtless and chained and with "WTF?" expressions on their faces. A real disappointment. The "How to Art" section had tips on doing underwater CG effects; of course, this is after I'd already done that title page for my comic. >___<

And now I've just watched the free Saiyuki DVD that came with it. Dubbed, of course. Goku's voice sounds kind of cute, but I don't like Sanzo's voice. He sounds wimpy and not nearly badass enough. Of course, I'd be biased there because I really love his Japanese voice. I guess my only serious complaint with the dub is that Hakkai casually uses the word "shit" no less than three times in this episode. In Japanese he was the most relentlessly polite and well-spoken of the four guys, but in this version he comes across as the most foul-mouthed. >__<

At any rate, the magazine seems pretty nifty overall. Just don't know if I'd want to shell out the money for it on a regular basis. Oh, hang on. I also bought the new issue of W.I.T.C.H. at the drugstore. Better go read that now. Ah, nothing like cheap and widely available cutesy comics for preteen girls to brighten one's day. ^___^

Well, Happy Easter. We had the family over again today, and feasted on hamburger and hotdogs and carbonara sprinkled with bacon. After food, we had a genuine Easter egg hunt orchestrated by my mom. It was pointed out that most other families would have actual small children to run around and look for the eggs (at 21, I am the youngest in our extended family. ^^;;). But the advantage of grown-up Easter egg hunts is that the eggs contain not candy, but money in large bills. ^_____^ Time to visit the comic shop again...

On a vaguely-related note, here is a droll fanart of Legolas and Silent Gimli. Scary how much it fits. Oh, and here is Stinkykick, a comic I found today which draws from the inexhaustible well of humor based on bad subtitles.

Agh! On this newer version of Winamp, the music doesn't just stop when you press "Stop" -- it sort of fades out. It's creepy! When I press "Stop", I want it to stop, dammit!

Have put up the first few pages of that stupid comic I've been working on. They are here if anyone is interested. I'm keeping it low-profile for the moment, until I've gotten a good number of pages in.

I should probably do a recap of the events of the past few days. Or maybe I shouldn't, but I'm going to anyway. Let's see... last Tuesday I went to Saki's house and we watched the extras on her Chamber of Secrets DVD. We also watched "The Power Lady", a.k.a. bootleg HK DVD of Spirited Away that Carlo borrowed from someone ages ago. Then I came home, and Carlo had set up my shiny new computer. It is shiny!

On Wednesday we had lunch at North Park, then Mom and I went to the derma so that the derma-lady could gouge holes in my face with pointy metal instruments. Meanwhile, Carlo succumbed to the dark side and went shopping in Pirateland, a.k.a. Virra Mall. Later that day we watched The Matrix, one of the DVDs he bought. You know, after watching that Animatrix short which showed how mean humanity was to those poor robots, it's become difficult for me to sympathize with the protagonists in this movie. I mean, what's their big problem, anyway? So reality is an illusion and humans are enslaved by machines; so what else is new. And why'd they have to shoot all those cops? The cops didn't do anything to them.

Anyway. Thursday was Holy Thursday, and I mostly spent it puttering around with the shiny new computer. We also watched the Star Wars Trilogy Special Editions, which were the other DVDs Carlo bought. Speaking of which, I laughed my hindquarters off at this comic.

Today, Good Friday, we had the relatives over for grilled prawns and salmon steaks and other non-warmblooded foods (like popsicles). I went swimming in the pool for the first time in years and years. And years. Blue kind of swam, which means that she showed an interest in the edge of the water and I picked her up and put her on the first step of the pool, and she then ran all around the garden on her wet skinny puppy legs.

First entry from the new computer. It is big and shiny. Got to go reinstall programs now, as well as sift through 478 new email messages.

Another thing I've been doing while away from the computer: I've finally gotten around to watching some of the DVDs that have been sitting on our shelves for months in a pitiful unwatched state. What actually happened is that late one night when I was supposed to be working on the final revision of a school project due the next day, I got distracted and stood up and walked around looking at the DVDs on the shelves. I'd recently been drawing several pages of a retarded fairy tale comic, so the Tenth Kingdom DVD way at the end of the shelf caught my eye. But just as I was pulling the case out to look at it, one of the disks inside slipped out. It was one of those slow-motion moments; I just stood there as the disk went sailing through the air in a perfect arc, bounced on the floor twice, and slowly came skittering to a stop.

Now, we bought this DVD while still in the States, and hadn't touched it since then. But now I had an obligation to check the disk to make sure it wasn't damaged; and I also had work to avoid. So I popped it into the DVD player and watched the opening sequence three or four times. Fortunately for my sleep schedule and my grades, I managed to stop there. The next day, when work was done, I sat down and started watching in earnest. It took a couple of days to finish; the damn thing is about eight hours long. But I quite liked it; it's my favorite of the Hallmark miniseries so far. Even better than Jack and the Beanstalk or The Snow Queen; and astronomically better than that crappy Monkey King thing where Greg from Dharma and Greg gets it on with the Goddess of Mercy. -__-;;

Anyway, Tenth Kingdom was entertaining and had a lot of clever ideas behind it, I thought. And judging from the supplemental material on the DVD, it's obvious that there was a lot of backstory and worldbuilding that didn't make it into the actual film. It's a shame that they couldn't make sequels.

Also, last night I finally watched our Beauty and the Beast special edition DVD. It's so sad to think that if this movie was made today, most of the interior backgrounds and the little object characters would be CG. -__- Watched the original theatrical version first, and then checked out the extra song number that was added for the special edition. It's a decent enough song, but I don't think it actually adds anything to the movie; it just seems to interrupt the flow. Sometimes these people who make special "extended editions" of old movies fail to take into account that those deleted scenes were deleted for a reason. 9_9

Aheheh. Um, well, it kinda seems like I fell off the edge of the world for a while, doesn't it? Well, you see, what actually happened is that I got lazy and didn't blog for a few days, as I am often wont to do. And then suddenly my computer went blooey, or at least Windows did. And right then I had several important final projects that had to be worked on and submitted, on other people's computers obviously, since my own wasn't very helpful. And in the efforts to fix my computer, all my Word documents for the past couple of years got accidentally deleted, but that's technically not related to my disappearance, it's just an annoying thing. And so basically I'm getting a new computer soon, and until then the old computer is technically working but none of my programs are installed and it doesn't get internet. And I've actually been able to access the internet on Carlo's computer, but I don't have my bookmarks and for some reason I just haven't felt inclined to surf much or blog on a strange (as in unfamiliar) computer. So basically, what's happened is that I haven't blogged in several weeks. And I don't have the new computer yet, but it'll be coming soonish, and in the meantime I figured I shouldn't put off blogging any further. After all, I'm already going to have about two million emails in my Inbox when I finally get to check it; although approximately 98% of those are sure to be porn ads.

Well, let's see. Right now I'm pretty much on summer vacation. Since I've been spending a lot of time away from the computer, I've been working on a retarded comic-type thing. Blue is still a little bitch, as in a female dog of miniscule size. She's still not quite housebroken. She still attacks my slippers and annoys poor Shawn. The problem is she's just too cute to be convincingly angry with.

FAQ:

Q: What the heck is that?

A: The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is a cool steampunk-ish comic series by Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill which has several prominent literary characters banding together to form a Victorian-era superhero team. Aside from the principal characters, the series also contains cameos and references to just about every bit of fiction ever written in the Victorian era. This layout features the cover from Volume 2, issue 3 of the series. And now that I've finally read the issue in question... LOOK OUT, MINA! Don't run into any invisible and brutally violent psycopaths plotting to sell England out to the Martians! Oh God... X____x

Q: No, I mean this thing. What is it?

A: Oh. Well, it's my weblog. I write junk in it.

Q: No, THIS thing!

A: What, that? That's a walrus. Careful, they're very territorial.
