Is it me, or have I just made two straight blog entries talking about the color blue? @__@

I have discovered the solution to the problem of the piss-yellow tea: drink it out of our blue plastic glasses. Tadaah, blue and yellow make green. ^^

Aw man. Don't tell me they killed off the blue lady on Farscape permanently. And she was such a pretty shade of blue.

Ahem. I now have a brand new HP Scanjet 2200C sitting on our computer table. It takes up a lot less space than that monstrous UMAX Astra. It's so small and cute and sleek and sexy. I think I'll call it "Chii". XD

So today the family and I went to Unimart, where Saki had showed me last Friday where to find Kirin milk tea in big bottles. Unfortunately, the big bottles of Kirin milk tea were all sold out. @____@ So instead I got a big bottle of green tea. It was a brand I had tried while in Japan, called (if I'm reading that right) "O~i Ocha".

Now I've discovered that, when poured out of its green plastic bottle, the tea in question is not green at all. It is, in fact, a rather unfortunate shade of piss yellow. It smells and tastes just fine, but yeesh. I don't know if it's just from sitting on the shelf for a while, or if that color is really a natural trait of the brand, which must be disguised by packaging it in a translucent green bottle.

In other heart-pounding news, I've been waffling over choosing a new scanner. I actually forgot to report this before, but my UMAX Astra 2000 seems to have died for good this time. This particular one is actually the one the manufacturer sent me about a year ago, to replace the one that broke down after another year. So. Anyway. It's crap.

If it were just a matter of spending a little more money and getting a scanner that's reasonably sure to not break down in a year's time, I'd do that. But my research shows that success with scanners depends not so much on the brand or the model, but on sheer luck. Some people have lousy luck with certain scanner brands, while others swear by them. Someone told me that *his* UMAX Astra has worked beautifully for the past 3.5 years. @______@

At any rate, I've pretty much settled on getting an HP at one of the stores in our neighborhood. That way, if anything goes wrong with it *knock on wood* we don't have to lug it all the way across town to complain.

Hamutaro is coming to the States! Woohoo~!! ^o^ Now I'll never be able to get that damned theme song out of my head. XD

What's weird, though, is that apparently it's showing on Cartoon Network's Toonami. O____O

Slept over at Saki's house last night. We watched the Angel Sanctuary OAV, and American Pie. Then this afternoon her little kid cousins came over and brought the Cinderella II DVD, so we watched that. That one was amusing, but kind of weird. Disney's art style and storytelling style has changed so much since the old days; trying to mix classic and modern Disney is just rather awkward. @__@

*____* The Shadow Lady... I love the Shadow Lady; she is so incredibly cool. If Theives and Kings were a more popular series, she would probably have about a billion slathering fanboy shrines, like Boba Fett or something. Darth Flower's outfit (see right) was actually vaguely inspired by the Shadow Lady, although it's much simpler and not nearly as cool. ^^

I really should try and look for the series again, now that we have a nice comic store in the neighborhood.

Subaru = John Constantine? I must say, the thought had never occurred to me. ^_^;; However, having only a marginal familiarity with the Books of Magic, the first time I heard of Harry Potter I thought "Isn't this that Tim Hunter kid?" ^^

And the Care Bears were a fixture of my childhood, though I'm forced to wonder if such touchy-feely fare would have appealed to me if it were introduced to me today. ^^;;

I still have vague memories of a Care Bears movie where a Disembodied Force of Evil takes the form of a young boy, and accosts a young girl to assist him in his fiendish plot. At some point she saves him from drowning, even though she knows he's really an Embodied Force of Evil. During the film's climax, EvilBoy faces off with the Care Bears, but then the girl gets hurt somehow. EvilBoy realizes that he doesn't want her to die, so he's forced to join hands with the Care Bears and chant "I care... I care... I care..." while Tenderheart exhorts the viewers at home to join in. The girl lives, and EvilBoy is magically transformed into -- gasp! -- a real boy.

I can't help thinking that people today who write fluffy Riddle/Ginny fanfic must have seen that same movie at some point.

I just caught part of one of the Care Bear movies on TV! *__* The one where they meet the Care Bear Cousins for the first time. That evil magician kid reminds me of Draco Malfoy, actually. Muahahaha.

Which Care Bears were the ones I had? Lets see, I had Share Bear, Wish Bear, Hugs and Tugs, Grandma Bear (or whatever her name was), and a chibi Cheer Bear. I also had Braveheart Lion, Brightheart Racoon, and Gentleheart Lamb. Carlo had Tenderheart Bear, Birthday Bear, Champ Bear (I think), Swiftheart Rabbit, and Cozyheart Penguin. Our cousin had Grumpy Bear. Wish we had a Grumpy Bear.

"Will you stand alone before the fury of his armies?"

......

...Let me think about that...

.....

.....

...just a second...

.....

...hang on...

.....

...uh..."Yes!"

Went to see The Scorpion King with Carlo and Saki this evening. The whole movie takes place in that blissfully indistinct epoch of history known as the Xena Age. (Samurai Jack hailed from this time period as well, before he was flung into a dystopian future.) A number of familiar characters make their appearance, including Useless Comic Relief Sidekick, Eccentric Old Scientist, and Precocious Street-Smart Kid. Plus a "Sorceress" who was really more of a Seer/Prophetess than anything else. Carlo theorizes that she's called a "Philosopher" in the UK release of the film.

My low expectations for The Rock's acting were not disappointed. As Faith said before, though, it would probably have been cooler had he remained silent in his role.

All in all, just a nice, dumb, entertaining movie. Guys will probably watch it to see that Philosopher chick wearing Not Very Many Clothes. Also, we saw a trailer for something called Eight Legged Freaks!, which looks like a must-see. XD

Just watched X TV 21. Spoilers follow.

Well, I think that was rather cooler than Karen's fight with Yuuto in ep. 19. I dunno, though; TV Yuuto seems a lot bitchier than manga Yuuto. And TV Karen seems a lot... angrier? Perhaps to make her fit in with the hot-tempered redhead stereotype. ^^;;

Anyway. That was pretty cool. But I hope to God that's not what happens in the manga. (My money's on Aoki to die before Karen, anyway. ;_;)

Oh yeah. Bit of an ignoble ending for Satsuki, wasn't it? O___o

Speaking of X TV, something just occured to me the other day. From what I know about the final episodes, apart from Destiny Boy, only two Dragons of Heaven get killed off: Karen and Sorata. The rest of them survive, and presumably live long and healthy lives. Now, who are my two favorite characters in all of X? Guess. Go on, guess.

It's a damn conspiracy, I tell you. >__<

Ooh, Chobits anime screencaps!

Speaking of which, on Saturday I bought the English Chobits graphic novel vol. 1 from our friendly neighborhood comic store. And I'm really quite impressed! Though there are no color pages, and the paper isn't as nice as the Japanese edition, it's still rather nicely put together. From my limited knowledge, the translation seems quite fair. What I liked was that the dialogue sounded very natural. Guess I'm too used to reading online manga translations where everything is rendered literally in rather stilted English. And I'm glad that they rendered it as "persocom" rather than "pasocon" as some fans do; makes much more sense that way, and the original pun remains evident. ^_^

Anyway, I already have four volumes of Chobits in Japanese; but I might just be compelled to purchase the English volumes as well. Durnit.

ARRRGH.

Behold the Series of Unfortunate Events fanart I've been working on for months. Yes, the feathers are supposed to be there; it's an actual scene from Book 7. I had no patience to draw ten thousand detailed feathers with a mouse; so I drew crappy squiggly feathers and applied the handy-dandy Motion Blur tool in Photoshop. This is not my problem; in fact on the whole, I'm rather pleased with how the piece came out. My problem is that now, because of all those damn feathers, "Sadame" from the X TV soundtrack is stuck in my head. >___< And it strangely fits the scene. And I know that from now on, whenever I read that scene in the book, "Sadame" is going to be playing in my head. -_-;;;;

Anyway, in other news, this morning I went along with the extended family to visit our "farm property". Ooh, I feel like such a haciendera now. Feel the sudden urge to ride horseback across sweeping green hillsides and to opress poor but beautiful telenovela heroines. Actually, this "property" is just a narrow strip of land some forty minutes from our house, with a few chickens and weed-choked vegetables on it. It was inherited from someone-or-other, and nobody is really sure what to do with it.

But! There was a carabao! He was standing right at the border between our lot and the neighboring field, munching on leaves and things. He looked at us with some interest; he probably doesn't get much excitement. I stood about seven feet from him; city girl that I am, that was about as close as I've ever gotten to a carabao.

And this afternoon, I got an e-mail asking for some of my old Impromanga pages for the Impromanga Revival Project. After some panicked searching, I found the directory where I had saved all my pages. And read through some of them. EEEEEW! Looking at my old art is... yucky! The scripting and layouts I'm still pretty happy with, but... their necks are too long! Their heads are too round! They look deformed! Blecch! XP

At any rate, I really really want to start working on new comics soon.

*checks KaZaA* ...nope. "Sadame" is still not done downloading. Dammit.

Due to recent writings on his weblog, my life's ambition is now revised. From "to meet Neil Gaiman", it has become "to meet Neil Gaiman and his little daughter Maddy". Unfortunately, by the time I ever meet her, she will probably be a rowdy teenager, sending text messages with her five cellphones and saying "like, y'know, whatever!" as all the kids do nowadays. That reminds me... Damn kids! Get off my lawn! Why, when I was your age...

By the time I meet Neil Gaiman, I will be a crazy decrepit old woman with fifty cats, and he will be a disembodied head in a jar ala Futurama.

Now that I think about it, though, Teknoman and the like aren't exactly "old school", are they? Old school would be things like Mazinger Z and such. 04/10/2002, 6:22 AM: Neil Gaiman defines slash for the uneducated. XD What, you mean people actually slashed Micheal Knight with KITT??? I suppose that, in retrospect, KITT seemed rather gay for a car, but... @____@;; Though now I wonder what a Knight Rider/Utena movie crossover would be like.

Also:
"'No, that's pizza,' I want to tell them. '*Pizza* wants to be free. Concentrate on liberating pizza from evil pizzerias. Information, on the other hand, really hates being free, and is never happier than when manacled to a wall, like Kirk and Spock in some piece of late 70's bondage-oriented slash fiction.'"

Tokyo Trip Report Omake #3: Miscellaneous Tidbits.

  • Japan is the Land Without Sprite. Not one single restaurant or convenience store we went to had Sprite or 7up. When I asked an AM PM employee about it one time, he seemed to think I meant "juice". O__o Oh well. Their wide selection of tea in bottles made up for it. ^-^

  • We saw Ewan MacGregor's face everywhere. Apparently he's advertising some kind of school for learning English?

  • Japan is a great place for public toilets! Even the smallest, ickiest, or most remote restrooms was relatively clean, had stacks of toilet paper, and a little button you could press to play a tinny fake-sounding recording of a flush. When you could find a Western-style toilet, that is.

  • We would never have guessed that the Japanese population is aging, from the number of cute little kids we saw: in the parks, at the airport, on the train, and so on. Carlo, ever the photographer, wanted to take pictures of them; but for the most part, he had to refrain from doing so, for fear of looking like a pervert.

  • Yes, in fact, Carlo and I did make an attempt at finding the basement of the Metropolitan Government Building by means of the subway access; we gave up after a few minutes, though. It was late in the day, and my feet were killing me. Probably for the best.

  • Watching The Simpsons in Japanese is a bizarre experience. They all sound pretty close to the original voices, except for Marge. Her voice is way too high.

  • I am terribly disappointed that I did not see one vending machine with questionable contents. All just plain old boring drinks. Then again, maybe I should ask Carlo if he saw any panty vending machines when he went to Roppongi.

  • Tokyo Tower (spotted from a distance)

^_^ Yes, Tokyo definitely fulfilled my craving for towering buildings and flying sakura petals. (Cute Subaru pic, by the way.) My wooden stick was relatively cheap; but then was probably not the world's greatest quality. ^^;; Oh well, not like I'm using it for any kind of actual sword practice; just for waving around, striking silly poses and yelling random syllables out loud.

    Anyway, I now present:

Tokyo Trip Report Omake #1: Yes, we have no rice!

So, perhaps as a cosmic payback for our trauma at the airport, we got to fly Business Class to Tokyo. Japan Airlines' Business Class actually seems nicer than Northwest's Business Class. And among the magazines and newspapers and things for people to read on the flight, Carlo found this adorable Card Captor Sakura picture storybook! It was obviously for very young children; the pages were made of thick cardboard, there were no kanji, and even the katakana were annotated with hiragana. ^^ I had such fun with that thing.

Anyway, when it came time to feed us, we were given the choice of the Western or the Japanese meal. As we usually do, Carlo and I both chose the Japanese meal. But when we got our meals, the rice wasn't included. Finally, our stewardess came out and apologized to each passenger individually, informing them that there was no more rice and that it was her fault and that she was very very sorry. Well, we were really more amused than anything; and anyway, we were happy just to be on the flight.

And then the head steward guy came out, also went around apologizing to each passenger individually, and explained how in the future before each flight, they would make sure that there was enough rice. At the rate they were going, I was afraid the captain was going to come out next and personally commit seppuku in front of each individual passenger! XD

    Monday, April 8, 2002

Alright. Here, finally, in all its ravishing splendor, is the report on our Trip to Tokyo. On the whole it was amazing, fun-tastic, magical, and a bunch of other superlative words. However, it came frighteningly close to never getting off the ground, so to speak.

There we were at the airport, three hours early, as is our usual policy with plane trips. We were stuck in a loooong line; but we were in good spirits. There was no traffic getting there; we were on time with plenty to spare; all of Mom's problems with getting her Japanese visa had been resolved; everything had been taken care of, right down to booking my Neopet into a Neohotel for 6 nights. We were all set. Then we got to the head of the line, and the person at the counter told us that our tickets were for THE DAY BEFORE.

Apparently, Mom's brilliant travel agent had booked our flight for the wrong day.

Well, things quickly started to look very bleak. The best they could do, they said, was put us on the standby list; but the flight was already overbooked, and priority would be given to those who were actually booked for that flight, not a bunch of bozos with tickets for the day before. And it was Holy Thursday, so of course all the offices were closed, and Mom's brilliant travel agent was off attending the Holy Week celebrations (getting nailed to a cross, I should hope) with her cellphone turned off.

So we basically stood there for two hours, waiting for them to call people on the standby list. My mother was teary-eyed. Carlo was grim-faced. I really thought we weren't going to go; that my Neopet would be getting a vacation instead of me. And I'm sorry to tell you such a depressing story; but see, it had a happy ending! By some miracle, not only did we get on the flight, we got upgraded to Business Class. So, thanks to the incompetence of Mom's brilliant travel agent, we flew to Tokyo in far greater comfort than we would have otherwise! Thanks, brilliant travel agent! See you in hell! ^_^

Anyway. Enough of that. I now present you with:

The Very Secret Tokyo Trip Diaries

Day 1: Arrived at Narita Airport. Took shuttle bus thingy to the Century Hyatt in Shinjuku. It was an hour and a half ride. Saw the full moon, and a few blossoming sakura trees. There's something quite beautiful about a city at night. By day it's all hustle and bustle and pollution and grime; but by night, it actually looks like a place where dreams could come true.

We did spot Tokyo Tower. It was far off, and dwarfed by the skyscrapers in the background; but it was all lit up quite nicely, and did manage to look like a magical tower. Zoomed by Rainbow Bridge as well, but didn't really get a look at it.

Got to hotel around 10 PM or so. Checked in. Ate a late and outrageously overpriced dinner in the hotel restaurant. We went out afterwards and walked around a bit, and found an AM PM. I bought a nifty Black Jack manga reprint thingy, and a chintzy little Future Boy Conan plastic collectible figure (for no apparent reason, since I've never watched Future Boy Conan, nor do I even know what it's about). And Pocky.

Went back to hotel room. I tried Pocky for the first time. Quite good, like a slightly more dignified version of Yan Yan.

    Japanese TV is crazy.

Day 2: All of today fluctuated back and forth between grey, foreboding skies and pouring rain. The sidewalks weren't dry once.

In the morning, we went to ICU to meet some friends for breakfast at their house. Afterwards, it was raining pretty hard, but Carlo and I walked around the grounds a bit; me admiring the pretty sakura trees, and Carlo taking pictures. There was one tree standing by itself, with much pinker flowers than the others; it definitely looked as if it had a dead body buried underneath. ^^ Not far from it, there was a treeful of beautiful blooming camillas. Somewhere at that moment, Nanase Ohkawa was getting goosebumps.

From there, we took the train back to Shinjuku station and ate a tempura lunch in the basement of the Takashimaya department store. Browsed throught Tokyu Hands a bit. Found Lord of the Rings snack foods: crackers and chocolates and things. Weird. Then proceeded to whirl through Kinokuniya bookstore for about an hour.
    Manga purchased today:

  • Mikan no Tsuki #5-6
  • Shaman King #1
  • Harukanaru Toki no Naka de #1
  • Akuma na Eros #1
  • Tokyo Underground #1
  • Kami no Na wa #1
  • Princess Knight Bilingual Edition #1
  • plus, the Fruits Basket Character Book. Expect a few manga reviews eventually.

We were dead tired after that, so we just took a taxi back to the hotel. At some point along the way, Carlo looked out the window and pointed out the ominous figure of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building looming over us. Next thing I knew, we were pulling up to the hotel. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, Fuuma is my neighbor. The Century Hyatt is literally right next to the Metropolitan Government Building. Unfortunately (or fortunately, perhaps) we can't see it from our window, as we're on the other side of the building.

Anyway. Got home, watched some TV. My new favorite anime is Tottoki Hamutaro. XD From what I can tell, it's about cute little hamster Hamutaro who leads a double life, as a little girl's pet, and as a member of a special underground hamster commune! Also watched what had to be one of the worst anime I've seen in ages: something something Webdiver. It looked like it took art styles, character and mecha designs from about twelve different anime series, chewed them a bit, swallowed, and then vomited them all back up, so you could still identify most of the chunks. And then threw in some CG modelling that would make "Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future" look like it deserves an Oscar for Best Visual Effects.

At any rate. Still managed to work up enough appetite for another outrageously overpriced hotel dinner. Then retired to read manga.

Day 3: Today was a walking-around-and-looking-at-pretty-flowers day. Saw beautiful sakura at Yasukuni Jinja. Saw beautiful sakura at Imperial Palace Gardens. Had Katsudon for lunch. We went by St. Ignatius church to check schedule for Easter masses, and saw beautiful sakura there too. We went back to the hotel by evening, and had our cheapest dinner yet: instant ramen thingies from the local AM PM. It figures that Japanese Cup Noodles would be better than those in the Philippines and the US.

We saw Bruce Willis in a couple of silly ads for some kind of motor oil or something. "Move you!" American celebrities humiliating themselves for profit on Asian TV is what life is all about. XD

After dinner, Carlo went out by himself to Roppongi for a few hours. He was back by midnight, telling us, "Don't go there." I never planned to.

Day 4: We went to Easter Sunday mass at Saint Ignatius in the morning. Of course, the pLace was absolutely wall-to-wall packed with Filipinos. Typical. XD Outside, the sidewalk was lined with people selling barbecue, pancit, Chippy, tapes of Pinoy movies, telenovelas and variety shows, and pirated tapes of American movies. All blithely ignoring the big sign that said "VENDING IS PROHIBITED AT ALL TIMES." Even more typical. XDDD

After that, we went to Ginza, worked our way through the Sony building, had our late lunch, and bummed around a bit. I was rather unsatisfied with the rate at which I was purchasing manga - that is to say, it's already Day 4 and I haven't bought nearly enough manga. So on the way home, when I spotted a sign for a bookstore not far from our hotel, I was compelled to pay a visit.

    Manga bought today:

  • Chobits #3-4
  • Akuma na Eros #2
  • The Secret Garden
  • Gururi #1
  • Alice 19th #1

Later on, through broken Japanese and English, we managed to wrangle a tempura and rice dinner out of an Udon restaurant. Go us!

Day 5: Today was our Day Trip to Kamakura day. We had a choice for our day trip, between going to Kamakura or to Nikko. I voted for Kamakura because the sights there are from the 12th century or so; in other words, Hojo Tokimune era. :D "Kamakura is... a capital of dreams..."

Found a book kiosk at the train station with a very decent manga selection. I bought Koucha Ouji vol. 1 and had them put one of those cute paper wrappers on it so I could read it on the train. It was about an hour and a half ride to Kamakura. I think. I'm not sure, because I fell asleep.

    Kencho-ji Temple began construction during the regency of Hojo Tokiyori. They had a photo of a statue of him in the little pamphlet. He was nowhere near as cute as the guy who played him in the TV series. ;__;

Anyway, we saw a few neat temples, and the Big Giant Buddha thing. Carlo kept calling it the "Daibatsu", which confused the poor taxi driver; but he finally understood where we meant when we pointed it out in the guidebook. We wondered what could have been wrong; but when we got there I saw the sign which said "DaiBUtsu". Carlo, you dork.

There were some cheapy cutesy little souveneir things for sale there. I bought a WOODEN SWORD! For only 1000 yen, which I split with Carlo! It's about four feet long and black, and really cool! They'll never let me take it on the plane! Woo hoo!

Anyway. We basically headed home from there. I stopped at that same decent-sized book kiosk as before, and picked a couple more manga.

    Manga bought today:

  • Koucha Ouji #1
  • Akuma na Eros #3
  • Fun Fun Factory #1

Day 6: Went to Harajuku. The first thing we saw upon exiting the train station was Snoopy Town. Snoopy! They had a ton of cute things which we didn't buy. Who the hell is Olaf? I remember Spike (the skinny one with the hat and mustache, who talks to the cactus) and Belle (the girl; I had a stuffed animal of her once); but Olaf is a new one on me. I guess Snoopy has a pretty big family now I think about it.

A bit further down, there was a big toy store place called "Kiddy Land" or something similar. I spent an inordinate amount of time browsing in there, before buying a Sen to Chihiro celphone strap (Kaonashi! My favorite character! ^-^). I also got a Kagome keychain from one of those contraptions where you drop coins in and it dispenses favors in little plastic eggs. Kagome! I wanted the Inuyasha one, but Kagome was frightfully adorable too.

We had lunch at Wendy's. I had the sudden terrible realization that my poor mother was the oldest one in the entire establishment. The whole place was full of teenagers and perhaps twentysomethings.

After lunch, we bummed around a bit more, then headed off: Mom and I to Shinjuku, Carlo to Akihabara to look at electronics junk and be tempted by the X-Box. Carlo, our ranger/navigator, gave us instructions as to how to get to Takashimaya/Tokyu Hands/Kinokuniya from Shinjuku station. And sure enough, we totally bungled it and had to ask two different people for directions to Takashimaya Time Square. On the bright side, we passed a dinky pet store on the street which had adorable little kittens and puppies.

  • Alice 19th #2
  • Harukanaru Toki no Naka de #2
  • Kami no Na wa #2

  • God Child #1
  • Gertrude no Recipe #1 We gave up trying to find the stop for the shuttle bus, and just took a taxi home. We met up with Carlo in the hotel room, changed into our nice clothes, and took another taxi to the Canadian embassy to meet an old friend of Mom's for a fancy Japanese dinner. It was one of those where they serve about twelve very small courses. They had yummy beef and sushi and sashimi and tempura and stuff; but they also had weird fish egg things and soup with embryonic eels in it. They had eyes and tiny little leg bumps, dammit! They looked like albino lizards! Er. Anyway, it was a good meal.

Returned to hotel, to rest up for our last full day in Tokyo. During our nightly stop at the friendly neighborhood AM PM, I found a Lupin III magazine! I love the new Lupin III manga.

Day 7: Went to Ueno park. Strolled around a bit, as Carlo took more sakura pictures. Petted some vendor's cute dog named Popo. Had some roasted corn, and another one of those soda thingies in the bottle with the marble in it. It really does taste like bubble gum. Also bought a pink Hello Kitty omamori!

From there we went to Tokyo Station. We had heard from Mom's friend that there was some kind of large bookstore thereabouts, but we couldn't find any such animal. So we took pictures of the Station's European-style facade, and browsed through the modest-sized bookstore on the 6th floor of Daimaru department store. I bought the Japanese edition of Series of Unfortunate Events Book the First, and a little Harry Potter postcard book with nice artwork based on the movie. Is it me, or do the Japanese get much nicer Harry Potter merchandise than we do?

After that, we had lunch at a train station ramen place, and proceeded to Shinjuku for yet more exchanging of money for goods and services.

    Manga bought today:

  • Pretear #3-4
  • Akuma na Eros #4

  • plus, Card Captor Sakura Illustrations Collection 3 (for a friend)
  • a pack of X anime collectible cards
  • a pack of Asuka magazine collectible cards After dinner, we made our last AM PM run. Then we rode the elevator all the way up to the top floor (23rd or 24th, I think), just to enjoy the beautiful view of the city as we were going up.

Day 8: This morning was basically last-minute packing and frantic final shopping.

    Manga and books bought today:

  • Gun Blaze West #1
  • Lupin III #9 and 12
  • Princess Knight Bilingual Edition #4-6
  • big Black Jack hardbound anime comic thing, of the first 3 OAVs
  • X Zero (for a friend)
  • Wish Illustrations collection Couldn't for the life of me find the other volumes of Worldend Fairytale, although I know they were right there the other day. Darn.

During our whole trip, poor Carlo never found anything to buy, except for a Xenosaga postcard book and a weird video game magazine DVD... thing. So our suitcases were loaded with about 20 kilos worth of my books; and that's not counting the ones I put in my handcarry. ^^;;; Anyway, after that was all done, we hopped into the airport bus. I held onto my cool wooden sword the whole way. I had wanted to get a daytime look at some of the things I saw on the way from the airport on the first night; but all of a sudden I could barely keep my eyes open. I dozed most of the way to the airport. I did get a 1.5 second glimpse of Rainbow Bridge, though.

The flight home was mostly uneventful. We arrived at NAIA at around 9:05, and managed to round up all our checked-in luggage, including my poor wooden sword. Then we drove home through the city at night; and even with the heat and the grime and pollution and the construction and the Aga Mulach billboards, it was beautiful.

And they all lived happily ever after! The End!

    Doop dee doo. Ooh!

    I'm Death!
Which Member of the Endless Are You?
I suppose that makes me... normal, since Death is basically the nice normal girl in the family. ^^;; I figured I'd be more of a Delirium, though.

    You are Civilian Calvin!
You don't get to travel much outside your neighborhood, but you still manage to get in plenty of trouble. When you're not acting up, you like to wax philosophical.

    mini-F.I.Q:
Q: What is the title of this blog?
A: It's called Kurozukin, which means "black hood", and which was taken from the character Kurozukin Yakko, in the anime series Akazukin Chacha. Does that make any sense to you?

Q: How do I comment on something you wrote?
A: You can sign the guestbook here, or click on that little link under each entry.

Q: I came here searching for Hojo Tokimune! What gives?
A: Look through my archives; I ramble quite a bit about various episodes and characters. Plus, I scanned some pictures from the book, which you can find here.

Q: Why do you keep asking people to send you things?
A: This is done in jest, as my way of saying that I really, really want a certain item. Of course, if you really do want to send me one of these items, don't let me stop you. ^.^
