Oh horrors. I was just imagining the 3rd Akazukin Chacha ED sequence (Welcome to the Magical School), starring the cast of Harry Potter. Then I started imagining the HP cast acting out the Chacha OP song (Kimi Iro Omoi). So then I watched the first episode which I have in RealMedia format. And now I have an overwhelming urge to re-watch the entire series. Rrrrgh. I wish they still showing it on Cartoon Network. Not that it's necessary, since I have every episode on tape. Ahh, sweet obsession...

Sekai de ichiban fushigi na mono wa
MAGIC! Magic, baby! Magic, baby!
Sekai de ichiban benri na mono wa
MAGIC! Magic, baby! Magic, baby!

The Sandman Ramadan figure is actually kinda ugly, but I don't care. Right now I've got him sitting on the computer table, and I'm hoping he can give me some inspiration for these damn stories I'm writing.

"You know whom you have called, Haroun Al Raschid."

Besides, I know that if I used the nice Sandman Dream Hunters figure instead, I would get nothing but David Bowie songs running through my head.

Slim pickings for trick-or-treating this year; by the time I went out (around 6-ish) most of the houses were all out of candy. Probably because of the rotten little balloon-stealing brats who were out and about at 4:30 in the freaking afternoon. -_-;; But at least I was able to scare the heck out of several small children. Hee hee, I love my costume. ^_^

A little while ago, I got to see the Filipino version of The Weakest Link. Am I the only one who thinks this is a BAD idea? That show just doesn't click with the Filipino psyche, with all its emphasis on Smooth Interpersonal Relationships and all that junk we learned about in Sociology-Anthropology 21. Plus Edu Manzano kept trying to copy the mannerisms of the original host, whatsername, that Nazi lady. I didn't watch 'till the end, so I don't know if he tried to imitate that corny wink thing she does. God, I hope not.

Grr! Those wretched little brats have been stealing all the orange and black balloons we set up along our street! And after all the candy we've given them! I'd better go out there and wave my scythe around. Hrraahrrrr!!!

WHAT?!! No Peeves?! Damn it! Rik Mayall was one of the people I was most waiting to see in the damn movie! Rik Mayall is Peeves! Rrrrrrgh...

Geez, it's only 4:30 in the afternoon and already the little kids are coming trick-or-treating. Thank goodness we have lots of candy. Lots and LOTS of candy... *burp*

Boys and ghouls of every age
Wouldn't you like to see something strange?
Come with us and you will see
This our town of Halloweeeeeeen!

I *love* Danny Elfman. Nightmare Before Christmas has to be one of the greatest movies ever made. ^-^

Slight clarification: this was the 1990 "Night of the Living Dead", not the original 1968 black-and-white version.

Damn. Now I'm creeped out. Doesn't help that there's a great big ground-floor window right behind the computer. Brrr. *looks around for some weapon to defend self against zombies* *picks up nail-clipper* Come and get me, zombies! Muhahahahaha! I am invincible! Eep.

Need to watch something fluffy and happy and funny to take my mind off it. Maybe if they show that preview for the next Survivor episode again -- the one where those people are petrified with fear when faced with a ferocious bloodthirsty carabao. XDDDDDD The commercial even says something like, "The tribe comes face to face with their worst nightmare! Will they escape from this wild horned beast?" A carabao! Oh God save me I'm so scared! Next week they'll be attacked by a vicious pot-bellied pig. 9_9

Darn. I had remembered that there was something showing on AXN at midnight, that I should tune in for. When I tried to remember what it was exactly, it occurred to me that it was "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer". I wondered why I had thought that worth tuning in for. At any rate, around 12:46 or so I thought "what the heck" and turned it on anyway. As it turns out, I misremembered: "I Still Know" was on earlier, and what was showing at midnight was "Night of the Living Dead".

This movie still does not fail to creep me out, and make me shy away from windows. I've seen it several times, but I've never managed to catch the first 45 minutes or so, so I don't know if it ever explained why there were so many recently-dead people in that town. Were they all people who had been killed by zombies? But wasn't the modus operandi of these zombies to eat the living? If they devoured all their victims, how could there be a corpse left to be re-animated?

Curse me and my faulty TV-schedule memory.

Well, Carlo up and left last night, or should I say early this morning. Off to see the polar bears devour baby harp seals and stuff. Yum.

Upon further inspection, and having some nice nilaga for dinner, it occurs to me that the two outfits don't really resemble each other all that much visually (the latter being much better drawn, for one ^^;;); but that's how Caimenous' coat thing always looked in my head.

Waitaminute... maybe that means that Mokona Appapa was actually channelling me.

*is now officially freaked out*

Couldn't blog all weekend since our internet was down. Currently listening to Tori Amos' new album, Strange Little Girls, just bought today. ^^

Anyway, the big news now is that all of a sudden Carlo is taking a trip to going to Churchill, Canada to see the polar bears. O___O Can you believe that? I told him it was a scenario right out of the cheesy alien/monster/reptile flick of the week: a bunch of people decide it's a really brilliant idea to go out and shut themselves in a little tundra buggy for three days, surrounded by the world's largest land predators, all ravenously hungry and waiting for fresh meat. Next thing you know, there'll be a big electrical storm that will knock out the engine and the radio and then the genetically-engineered super intelligent bears will start breaking in and eating people. >__< Oh well, as long as he offers them some Coca-Cola he should be fine.

Ack! No, Karen, Aoki! Don't dieeeeee! Or at least have an adulterous affair before you do! *punches self in mouth for that suggestion* >x<;; Don't take the eyeball, Subaru! FOR GOD'S SAKE DON'T TAKE THE DAMN EYEBALL!!!

I finished American Gods! It was neat. I still like Sandman best, but still, it was neat. Some of the gods I recognized right away, like Low-Key Lyesmith and the Egyptian guys. Some of them took me a little while, like Mr. Nancy. And some of the others I still need to look up. ^^;; But I liked the modern gods! The Spook Show, heh heh... I wish we could've seen more of them. ^_^ But all while reading the book, I kept getting flashbacks to Unseen Hand, that poor old impromanga I never finished. ^^;;;

What else... hm, still writing those damn stories and still haven't written nearly enough. And Icarus Falls' update and Halloween layout should hopefully be uploaded by tomorrow or so.

A very interesting dream I had last night. There was some sort of fighting tournament thing where Morpheus (Dream of the Endless, the Sandman guy, not the one from the Matrix) was fighting Mister Satan from Dragon Ball Z ("Master Pogi" in the Filipino dub, "Hercule" in the American dub). O__o This was a real fight, as opposed to the sort of fight Morpheus usually gets into:

Azazel: You suck. Come and get me.
Morpheus: Okay.
*Azazel ends up in a bottle*

No, this was an honest-to-goodness punching and kicking and jumping around kind of fight, which is of course highly out of character for Morpheus. Needless to say, Mister Satan was also considerably more badass than he normally is (else he wouldn't have lasted five seconds ^^;;).

Anyway, they were fighting, and it was really awesome. And then, to distract Morpheus I guess, they threw Ling-Ling, the nurse chick from Steam Detectives, into the ring. I dunno... I suppose the implication was that he had a thing for Ling-Ling, but... Morpheus and Ling-Ling?! I would have thought he was more into skinny, tragic/poetic girls, not busty anime nurse-in-distress types. Go figure.

After that, the bad guys go back in time and throw out yet *another* Ling-Ling. So here's Morpheus, having to fight while holding on to two Ling-Lings. Nevertheless, he manages to kick Mister Satan's ass. He isn't happy about this, though; he realizes that he wasn't supposed to win that fight, that there would be serious repercussions if he won the fight, and yet his pride made him win the fight anyway. *DOOM DOOM DOOOOM*

And that was it. I thought it was pretty cool.

Have I really not blogged in almost a week? I feel like this "vacation" is rapidly slipping through my fingers. >_< SemBreak is nearly half over, and I haven't finished even one of the things I was supposed to be doing. Have I finished my three stories for thesis? I've barely started the first one, and I have no idea what I'm writing for the other two. Have I finished Carlo's birthday present? No. Have I updated my page? No. Have I come up with the Halloween layout? No. Have I worked on Hidden Agenda 3? No. Have I answered any e-mail? Hell no. X__x;;; Gahh. Well. I started on American Gods: I'm currently on chapter 5. Oooh, what a fast reader I am. It seems that all I've done over the break so far is watch Prisoner episodes and waste time on Neopets.

God bless Mother Nature! She's a single woman too!

For some reason, this line from that song about raining men was the one that stuck in my head. It was running through my head today, as I finished the story I had to submit, about the continued adventures of Maria Makiling.

I didn't have classes today -- it's exam week -- but I had to work on the story. I found out upon getting up that the US bombed Afghanistan. Then around lunchtime, we find that a rumor is going around about Britney Spears being killed in a car accident. Geh. Somebody apparently went to a lot of trouble to make and send out an extremely convincing fake CNN.com article, describing Britney's gory demise, and how Justin Timberlake was in critical condition. I was not amused. Okay, so Britney Spears is a vapid pop idol with big boobs. That doesn't mean I am entertained by thoughts of her violent death.

Well, I thought this survey was interesting. ^_^;;

1. What was the very first fandom you got involved in: By Fandom, one means visiting websites and reading fanfic and looking at fanart and discussing with other fans, right? Hm... X-Men I suppose (although I obsessed over things like Darkwing Duck and Tiny Toons long before that). That was fandom in the sense that I bought fanzines like Wizard and stuff, and talked about it with other X-Men fans I knew. The first fandom where I actually visited websites and read fanfic and stuff was Ranma 1/2, since it was then (around 1994) that I first had access to the internet. Back then I had to get my Dad to sign on for me; and it would automatically disconnect every thirty minutes so we'd have to sign on all over again, and we only got a couple hours a day. And all we had was an all-text browser. ^^;; But I was still hooked. Uh, moving on...

2. What is the most recent fandom to catch your interest: Um, Harry Potter. I think. I guess.

3. Fandom you've stayed loyal to the longest: Hm... Sandman? Does that count? I got into that a little after X-Men, and I still love it. Or would you count Star Trek The Next Generation, since I started watching that when I was 8 or so? Wait, did I consider that when I was answering the first question? Damn, this survey is hard!

4. Fandom(s) you're most passionate about: Sandman! No, wait, Star Trek! No, CLAMP! No, Harry Potter! No, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen! No, Akazukin Chacha... no... uh... *trails off*

5. Fandom(s) you wish you could get into, but can't: Never got to watch more than a few episodes of MST3K, but I love the ones I've seen to death. I have read a few fanfics, though.

6. Fandoms you're curious about, but never had the chance to get into: Lord of the Rings, Discworld, and fantasy books in general. When I go to a bookstore, I usually go to the Fantasy section. I see a book with a pretty cover, and I pick it up to oogle it. Then I notice that it's about as thick as Webster's New Age Dictionary. And then I notice the little blurb on the front which reads someting like "Book XIV of the Stormdarkheartsoulswordbreakwind Saga". Or, almost as intimidating, "The First Book in the Spellknightlancepenguin Trilogy". ^^;;;;;;

7. Fandom that's been the most fun to be involved in: Harry Potter has been tons of fun, as you can tell from the embarassing amount of HP fanart I've drawn. Although I never cease to be annoyed by fans who say stuff like, "Arg! We must boycott WB for making movie Draco's hair too yellow!" and "This fanart is wrong, James' eyes are blue not brown!". But that goes for all fandoms. :P

8. Fandom that's been the least fun to be involved in: None really, though as I've mentioned I can't stand overly rabid and nitpicky fans in general. Oh wait; this is probably not related to the question, but I am rather annoyed at the disproportionate amount of Seishirou/Subaru fans in X fandom. The really obnoxious ones who go, "How dare CLAMP have a scene focusing on a worthless character like Sorata when they should be showing more of my beloved Subby-wubby and Sei-chan?" Gag. Retch. Run to bathroom. Fade out.

9. Fandom you're ashamed to admit you were involved in: Hm... maybe Star Trek Voyager. ^^;; Yeah, I know it's not as good as TNG or Deep Space Nine or whatever, but... I like it anyway! And I think it gets more flak than it deserves. ^^;;

10. Are you looking for a new fandom, or actively avoiding getting sucked into something new? Uh... neither.

Damn, that was long. ^^;;;

Wah, the X TV series OP sequence is pretty cool, but... IT'S ALL KAMUI! With maybe two shots of Fuuma! @_@ Where are all the other characters, dammit? I wanna see cool pretty fwoofy OP-ish shots of Sorata and Arashi and Karen and Aoki and stuff! Bwiset. :P And, the ED sequence is ripped off of that one bit in the Utena OP. If you've seen it, you know the one I mean. ^_^

Bah. What a week from Hell, in terms of stress levels. X_x And I still have a three-hour review class tomorrow afternoon (oh well, at least I can sleep all morning ^^). Let's see, major events of next week:

  • Monday -- turn in completed third story for my thesis.
  • Wednesday -- History final exam at 7:30 in the morning (X__x;;;), Philosophy final oral exams at 5 in the afternoon.
  • Thursday -- turn in paper for Philippine Cinema class. I still don't know what I'm writing about.
  • Friday -- final exam for Great Books: Beowulf, Inferno, The Art of Courtly Love, Canterbury Tales, The Prince, Utopia, Hamlet, Candide.
  • Saturday -- final oral exam for Theology (have I mentioned that all these exams are comprehensive?) Also, submit Theology synthesis paper.
  • Over the semestral break -- Write three more stories for thesis. Finish Carlo's very belated birthday present. Work on Hidden Agenda 3. Work on stuff for Comic Collective. Go to Comic Collective meetings. Work on Halloween layout for Icarus Falls. Catch up on taped episodes of Hojo Tokimune. Uh, what else? X______x And on top of that, I haven't answered any e-mail in geological ages. If you're reading this and I have very rudely failed to mail you back about something, I'M SO SORRY! ^^;; I'll try to answer mail soon. Probably not this weekend, though. -__-;;

    And, on a random note, Voyager is now on every weeknight. It's just like in the States. ^__^;; But dammit, I want to see Enterprise. Now. Now. Now! NOOOOWWWWWWWW!!! Ugh. Two nights of staying up to write stuff. X__x And the week's not over yet, and after that is exams. Don't want to think about it.

    Today there was all this hooplah about huge outbreaks of flu among a bunch of schools. It was on the news all day, and the rumor was going around that it was germ warfare or something. Of course, it was really nothing more frightening than an outbreak of flu and a bit of mass hysteria, but still. Just goes to show that as far from the States as we are, people are all a little jumpier nowadays.

    Something to be cheerful about, though: apparently Star Trek Voyager is now showing here. On the Hallmark channel. XD Yes, I know how cheesy Voyager is compared to, say, TNG; but I have a soft spot for it anyway. ^__^

    I've been in a bit of a Lupin III mood lately, so yesterday I watched my tape of Lupin III: Dark Order of Assasination. This is probably my favorite of the Lupin movies/OAVs/specials I've seen (though objectively Castle of Cagliostoro is a better movie -- hey, it's Miyazaki!). I love how Jigen is drawn in it, and I think it's neat how he has kind of a prominent this one, since he doesn't get too much attention in a lot of the other movies. And Goemon of course is awesome as always, though he has something like six lines in the whole thing. It's not that he didn't have a starring role; it's just that he barely spoke. ^^;;

    Now, to get back to writing my nightingale story, which is barely half-finished, and needs to be turned in tomorrow... T_T

    Wil Wheaton has a weblog?! O__o

    And now for some search engine referrals.

  • could spinosaurus beat the t. rex -- and my answer is: a big resounding "NO WAY IN HELL". I ranted a bit about this in an earlier archive.
  • HOJO TOKIMUNE -- this continues to be my most frequent search engine query referral. ^_^
  • aga mulach latest news -- I think he's playing Gilderoy Lockhart in the second Harry Potter movie. Huh? Whassat? Hugh Grant? Oh. Never mind, then.
  • gloria macapagal arroyo sex pic -- for the Nth time. -_-;;; Mental note: advise Gloria to star in porno flick. Could do wonders for her popularity rating.
  • pic of a guy with the earth on his back greek mythology -- oh for God's sake. You know, this reminds me of a story. There was some sort of comic sale at a mall I went to once, and there was a guy with a table, selling his fanart. And there was this 12-or-so-year-old kid flipping through a clearfile with the guy's art, and naming all the characters really fast. He rocketed out the names of all the X-Men and Star Trek and whatnot characters, until he came to a picture of a gryphon. He paused for several seconds, and finally said "bird" before turning the page. Grarrr!! What kind of idiot can name dozens of X-Men and Star Trek characters, but doesn't even know a freaking gryphon when he sees one?! Kids these days... @_@ (His name is Atlas, by the way.)

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!! O___O WOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! ^0^v

    Okay, I've changed my mind. Forget about last month's Asuka. This is the Asuka I will trade body parts for. Sorata and Arashi rabu-rabu~~~~!! *________* Honestly, for all CLAMP's hentai-ness, they are quite prudish when it comes to kiss scenes. *Has sudden urge to break glass of window* Plus we have the eagerly-awaited reappearance of Karen-san and Aoki-san and their disturbingly adorable sexual tension. >:D And Aoki wearing something other than a suit! It must be miiiiine...

    Aheheh... It looks like have once again gone almost a week without blogging. ^^;;; Hey, it's the hectic end-of-semester period for me again, what can I do? Hasn't been too bad a week, though. Made some nice progress on one of the stories I'm writing for my thesis: a sci-fi version of the Emperor and the Nightingale. (That's right, Big O fans, you can just guess where I got that idea from. ^__^) Probably the weirdest thing that happened this week was a dream I had. Two words: hummingbird erotica. Trust me, you don't want to know.

    Hee hee... Earlier they showed that Lupin III episode where they have to infiltrate some evil guy's hideout by swimming, and Lupin and Jigen were wearing wetsuits while Goemon went naked. >:D Okay, not naked, but clad in just his little G-string samurai underwear. Carlo and I were laughing our heads off. I love and adore Goemon, but it's impossible not to snicker when he dresses like that. XD

    Right now Carlo's watching the second Patlabor movie in the background. I've never watched the whole thing all through, but I've seen parts of it. I really ought to watch it all sometime. It goes without saying how creepy this movie is, in the light of Recent Events.

    Read this article about radio stations banning songs that mention buildings, plane crashes, or Tuesday. Was suddenly reminded of a song that would probably be banned if it actually played on the radio: "Look Up! The Sky is Falling" from the Robotech soundtrack.
    We have to pay for all we use!
    We never think before we light the fuse!
    Look up! Look up! Look up! The sky is falling!
    Look up! There's something that you have to do!
    Before you try to go outside to take in the view
    Look up because the sky could fall on you!

    Brrrr. I love this song, though. (Yellowdancer~! XD)

    Had to get up super early this morning (for me 8:30 is super early ^^;;). The vet was making a house call to give all our animals their shots. My plan was to get up, help the vet, and then go back to bed after she left. Unfortunately, by the time we were done I was covered in cat hair and sweating like a pig in a microwave, and probably would not have been able to go back to sleep had I tried. -_-;;;

    Unicron: Then it pleases me to be the first.

Who could have anticipated finding not just one, but two kick-ass Big O wallpapers within such a short span of time? ^_^ The first one I got from this site, while the second one I actually scanned myself from a back issue of Newtype I purchased recently. Anyone interested in this wallpaper, let me know. God, am I behind on my e-mail.

    Whoops, let over a week go by without posting. Guess I didn't really feel like writing about the whole WTC terrorism business, and didn't feel appropriate writing about anything else. The whole thing was just so tragic on so many levels, and I hope it doesn't gain an additional level by escalating into war and pointless bloodshed. It's scary how people on the news now are throwing the word "war" about so casually, as if it was the new buzzword of the day. And that's all I'm going to say about that.

    Faith (if you're reading), though it says it's in Japanese, the summary given is for Warriors of the Wind, which is the old English-dubbed version of Nausicaa. You know, with "Zandra" instead of "Nausicaa", "Queen Selena" instead of "Princess Kushana", "gorgons" instead of "ohmu", and so on.

    Nowadays anime fans tend to slam Warriors of the Wind as one of the great evils of Western civilization, an unholy blasphemy against the exalted name of Miyazaki. I dunno, I still have a soft spot for it. ^_^ Sure, they changed all the names and cut about twenty minutes of film; that doesn't mean it suddenly became a horrible pointless trash-heap of a movie. I loved it as a kid; and if I hadn't thought it a good movie, I probably would never have picked up the Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind manga. ^^

    Speaking of childhood favorites, we had the Comicol film showing with Flight of Dragons last Monday. Nobody came. Alright, maybe five people apart from Saki and I came, but they were all Comicol members themselves. What the hell is wrong with people? Does nobody else remember Flight of Dragons? @__@ For the Last Unicorn showing on Wednesday (which I was unable to attend), something like 15 people came.

    Re-watching Flight of Dragons after all these years, the parallells with Harry Potter started occurring to me (as often happens with things I watch or read nowadays). You have four Big Important wizard guys. Each is associated with a particular color: green, blue, yellow, or red. And one of the four is Evil, and is disliked by the other three. Starting to sound familiar? The difference would be that in this case, it's the red one that's evil and the green one that's good. ^_^;;;;;

    And, in closing, I leave you with a serious question to ponder: if Lily Evans=Yukino Miyazawa, and James Potter=Souichirou Arima, does that make Sirius Black=Hideaki Asaba? A sobering thought.

    mini-F.I.Q:
    Q: What is the title of this blog?
    A: It's called Kurozukin, which means "black hood", and which was taken from the character Kurozukin Yakko, in the anime series Akazukin Chacha. Does that make any sense to you?

    Q: How do I comment on something you wrote?
    A: You can sign the guestbook here, or click on that little link under each entry.

    Q: I came here searching for Hojo Tokimune! What gives?
    A: Look through my archives; I ramble quite a bit about various episodes and characters. Plus, I scanned some pictures from the book, which you can find here.

    Q: Why do you keep asking people to send you things?
    A: This is done in jest, as my way of saying that I really, really want a certain item. Of course, if you really do want to send me one of these items, don't let me stop you. ^.^
