The Harry Potter movie trailer is up at harrypotter.com!!! The first time I watched it, I must have squealed a dozen times.
    *closeup of Snape*
    Me: EEEEEEEE!!!
    *Hermione's know-it-all expression*
    Me: EEEEEEEE!!!
    *closeup of Malfoy*
    Me: EEEEEEEE!!!
*Lee Jordan's dreadlocks in the background*
    Me: EEEEEEEE!!!
    Mom: What's wrong with you?

And Hagrid looks *cool*. I almost have trouble with the notion of a *cool* Hagrid. ^^ It's Robbie Coltrane's fault.

I'm at home today because we had the last meeting of our Philosophy of Religion class last Tuesday. Now I have Tuesdays and Thursdays free. ^-^

Yesterday, I turned in my paper on a post-classical Odysseus text for my Mythology in the Western Tradition class. I wrote about that old cartoon, Ulysses 31. I managed to download the opening animation and first episode off of this page. I must have played that OP theme about a billion times over the past few days. I can't help it; it's damn catchy. "Ulysses, UlysSE-es! Soaring through all the galaXI-es!" ^o^

Anyway, I just hope I get a decent grade. I never actually asked our teacher whether it was okay to do the paper on a cartoon series. Well, he did say ANY text, including movies and TV; so I guess I should be okay. As long as my analysis is sound.

I also got my Doctor Who and the Curse of Fatal Death video in the mail last Tuesday, and watched it last night. It's freaking funny. ^o^ "Say hello to the Sofa of Reasonable Comfort!" I tell you, they should have gotten Rowan Atkinson to be the Doctor in the actual series. (Joanna Lumley was cool, too.)

Now, if you'll excuse me, I think I might just go watch that Harry Potter trailer for the twentieth time. ^^

Just before dinner tonight a pyrex dish exploded in our kitchen. Mom had just set it down on on top of the stove, and KABLOOIE! (Not actual sound effect.) I didn't see it explode with my own eyes, but there were chunks of glass all over the kitchen and surrounding areas -- it must have been pretty fantastic.

    Harry Potter movie pics!!!

I am really, REALLY, loving these pictures. ^-^ My favorite parts are:

  • The dramatic, windblown effect in the Flying Class picture.
  • Hermione's bossy expression in the abovementioned picture.
  • The "Whuh--?" look on the Dursley's faces in the second picture just cracks me up. XD
  • Harry's intense expression in that third pic *^-^*
  • Those uniforms! So preppy and British-boarding-school-y!
  • SNAPE!!! There! That little indistinct blob in the background, in the left side of that Sorting Hat picture! Woo hoo! ^_^;; By the way, I forgot to mention that the boxed set of Harry Potter UK edition books 1-3 that I got from that eBay seller turned out to be a free gift. So basically I bought one book, and I got four books. How sweet is that?! ^__^ Looking at all these lovely UK edition books, I have the sudden urge to read the whole damn series over again.

Today in PetCo I saw three greyhounds that some lady had brought in. They had the exact appearance and mannerisms of Santa's Little Helper from The Simpsons. These impossibly skinny little dogs, just darting around timidly and sniffing things.

And this afternoon I slept for about two hours, but it seemed much longer than that. I had this very long and disturbing dream, which involved, among other things, my needing to have some kind of surgery. Before the surgery was to begin, I had to have my breastbone broken. I didn't want to do it, and I asked for anaesthetic at least; but I didn't get any. It didn't exactly hurt (not as much as actually having your breastbone broken down the middle should hurt ><); but it just made me feel really unsettled. And then something happened and we weren't able to go through with the surgery. And then there were all kinds of scenes that involved running around and climbing through windows and things -- which I really was *not* too keen on, seeing as I had a broken breastbone and all. I remember being really pissed off that we might end up not being able to do the surgery at all, and I would have to go around for the next few months with a broken breastbone for NOTHING.

...Um, basically it was very disturbing. Not in the horrifying or scary way, just... sort of creepy. Ick.

    TV Misguided

*points to above link* kekekekekeh. "Wes Craven's League of Extraordinary Gentlemen 2000", indeed. XD

Today has been quite a day for birds. I saw huge flocks of seagulls on my way to and from school -- they seem to come out in droves when it rains. I also saw a robin in a tree at school, and a huge bunch of crows (murder of crows?) perched at the very top of a tall, bare tree near our complex. Creepy.

Also, one of my eBay purchases arrived in the mail -- the UK edition of Harry Potter Book 4. As well as a boxed set of the first three books, which I was not expecting. O_O Needless to say, I have to e-mail the seller.

Ooooh, one more link: X Handpuppet Theatre. Special guest appearances by The Wrathful Judeo-Christian God and The Disembodied Head of Kotori. XD

At any rate, I have a bit of a bias against selectors made by Val Sakurazuka. >_< She's demonstrated that her opinions are quite far removed from my own. Not to mention all the little language and grammar errors that at best are annoying, and at worst make for confusing questions. Like, does she not realize that "homely" means "unattractive"? Geh. >_<

We had a holiday today, of course. And of course, I slept the entire morning. In the afternoon, I watched 1.5 episodes of original Star Trek: one half of an episode that had a bunch of Klingons in it (Klingon women may have been prettier back then, but they were a whole lot wussier ~_~;;), and "The Savage Curtain" -- that episode with Abraham Lincoln in it (I still can't believe he called Uhura a "charming negress" XD ).

I also seem to be developing a bit of an Oekaki fixation. I've been flitting from one oekaki board to another, drawing and leaving throwaway one-liner comments. I drew this, and this, and this so far. Actually, I've been feeling rather artistic all weekend. I'm CGing a pic I drew Saturday night while watching The Prisoner, ST:TNG, and SNL. Plus I quick-CG'd this yesterday.

Yeah, I know. The whole building must have heard me screaming obscenities at the top of my lungs. But my dad has been bugging me to use the alarm clock to wake me up. I hate that stupid alarm, I hate it, I hate it, I hate it. Ech.

    gender-bending Eva doujinshi

Whoa. O_o Asuka makes a cute boy.

Last night I had a rather interesting dream. I think it was kind of like Phantom of the Opera, only instead of a Phantom the guy was a cross between Snape and the Doctor from Star Trek Voyager. It's hard to explain, but basically he was both Snape and the Doctor at the same time. And the girl was Lily Potter, I think. And it wasn't an opera, it was a supermarket. An abandoned supermarket, that for some reason had lights and refrigerators running and fully stocked shelves. I remembered thinking, as I was watching this dream, how cool it would be to have your own fully stocked supermarket all to yourself. I'm not sure exactly why I thought that.

    .....

...And there weren't any songs or anything. And the guy wasn't deformed; I mean, he looked like the Doctor (and sometimes like Snape). So maybe it wasn't really like Phantom of the Opera after all. But then, I've never seen Phantom of the Opera, so I wouldn't know.

    I scored 45 out of 52 questions. Should I be pleased or disgusted with myself? ^^;;

Geh. It's freaking cold, and I got about 3 hours of sleep last night (or should I say this morning X_x). I was finishing my take-home essay thingy for my Mythology class. I basically had to evaluate Odysseus' character -- his bad traits versus his good traits, and ultimately what kind of person he was. One thing that I'm certain of is that if Odysseus could go to Hogwarts, he would be a Slytherin. ^_^

Spent most of the day in San Francisco. We got to have lunch in Japantown, and I got to browse the Kintetsu Mall and Kinokuniya at leisure. We went into the store that has all the CDs and LDs and DVDs. Japanese anime DVDs have such pretty packaging. ;_; The Ayashi no Ceres DVDs are GORGEOUS!!! I pray god that Viz uses the same packaging (fat chance :p). I also bought the Lupin III manga vol. 8, and Ludwig vol. 3.

Afterwards, Carlo and I were dropped off at the Metreon theatre while Mom went to have dinner with some friends. We were supposed to see Hannibal, and we arrived a whole hour early, but they had sold out before we got there. O_o So we saw Cirque du Soleil's Journey of Man in the Imax theatre. It was okay... nice costume design and settings, but altogether too short and lacking in Cirque-y stunts. Plus I recognized some of the music as having been recycled from Quidam.

Anyway, that movie was much shorter than Hannibal would have been, so we had a lot of spare time to wander around the Metreon. It's a really amazing place. We saw the X-Men Mutant Academy game at the Playstation Store, watched some of the Matrix and Fantasia 2000 DVDs at Sony Style, wandered through Airtight Garage (which is a stylish arcade-type thing) and generally stood around gawking at pretty and highly overpriced stuff. I love it.

I was finally able to find the Azuki-chan opening theme on Napster. ^_^ Azuki-chan is this cute little anime series I used to watch regularly on NHK a few years ago. Think of a cross between Peanuts and shoujo manga, and you wouldn't be far off. Anyway, the opening theme is really catchy and cute, and I've been listening to it over and over while CGing my Piper MOB submission. God, I love Napster. Without it, I would never be able to find super-obscure songs like this, not in a million years. Right now I'm also downloading the Tobe! Isami opening -- another obscure anime that had a cute theme song.

Philosophy is stupid. Or more precisely, philosophy texts are stupid. Why on earth do the authors seem to go out of their way to put everything in the most confusing way possible, as if to ensure that nobody can understand it? Here's an exact quote from one our readings for class:

"In part because he is concerned to argue that the practical rationality of engaging in religious practices makes it rational to suppose that the beliefs they ground are justified, it is easy to overlook the distinct question whether this practical rationality also implies that is rational to suppose that these beliefs are rational."

I am not making this up! This is from the article written by our teacher, no less. At any rate, I can thank God that damn exam is over (without wondering whether it involves doxastic or non-doxastic faith). >_<

And now, something more pleasant... Gothic My Little Ponies. XD

On the way home from school I stopped at PetCo. Together in one cage they had the two most gorgeous cats I've ever seen (aside from my own Tiggy and Shawn-shawn of course ^^). First there was this beautiful short-haired tortoiseshell with yellowy-green eyes. Yeah, tortoiseshell is a fairly ordinary color, but with this cat it looked really good. Then the other cat. If I hadn't known he was a cat, I would have sworn he was a wolf. HUGE creature, but very lean and long-legged, and with incredibly shaggy long hair. His legs and face were black, and the rest of him was this dark smoky grey color. *_*

The amazing thing is that these two apparently are sister and brother. Their names are Peanut and Smokey. If I'd had such beautiful cats, I would probably have come up with slightly more original names for them 9_9 (although Smokey is very descriptive of his color).

    A MILLENNIUM MOVIE?!?

SQEEEEEEEAL!!! And I thought nothing could top my hearing just this hour that Rik Mayall will be playing Peeves in the Harry Potter movie. Hee hee, Lance Henriksen mentions that he and Robert Patrick did a movie together before. A little movie called... Terminator? ^-^ (Okay, so Henriksen was in T1 and Patrick was in T2... minor technicality :P) There is a god! *^_^*

And no, that statement has nothing to do with the Philosophy of Religion class review session I attended this evening. ~_~;; Sitting around the teacher's nice little living room for an hour and a half, talking about justification and belief ek ek... and me just staring blankly, my mind like a slab of meatloaf that's been in the back of the freezer for weeks. Make of that simile what you will. Eccch. And now I still have all of Ovid's Metamorphosis to read by tomorrow. >.<

My God. How depressing. Right now Dad is watching "Walker, Texas Ranger". And alongside Chuck Norris, this episode guest stars Hulk Hogan. @_@ "Relics of a bygone era", says Carlo.

This afternoon we went to see The Gift. I was expecting it to be one of these cheesy psychic movies with lots of close up shots of the character's face with their hair blowing in the wind and electricity crackling around. Sort of a "Carrie" or a "Firestarter". Fortunately, it turned out to be more of a "Sixth Sense" type deal. I think it was pretty cool, anyway.

And I really love the trailer for Pearl Harbor. Normally I'm not terribly interested in those kinds of movies, but I think I would want to go see this just because the trailer is so cool.

Also, I made a guestbook where people can leave comments about weblog entries. Which assumes, of course, that there is anybody else reading this in the first place. @_@ Anyway, that's where the little link at the bottom of each entry goes now.

Okay. This morning, during Japanese class, I amused myself by coming up with my own Survivor group. This was inspired by a couple of things. One was this Cartoon Network spot I saw a few weeks ago that spoofed Survivor, with Wonder Woman, Betty Rubble, Top Cat, etc. The other thing was Carlo talking last night about what he would do if he were on Survivor, and instead of "mastermind" he said "mastermold".

So, without further ado, let us meet our castaways.

    Tribe Tikbalang
    consisting of:

  • Tenjou Utena -- Victor of the Duels, aspiring prince
  • Shirou Kamui -- traumatized savior of the human race, bishounen poster-boy
  • Blossom -- kindergarten student, superhero
  • Ron Weasley -- Hogwarts student, full-time sidekick
  • Snake-Eyes -- G.I.Joe's silent masked martial arts guy
  • Ishikawa Goemon XIII -- stoic samurai, part-time sidekick and international thief
  • Nagisa Kaworu -- 5th Child, 17th Angel
  • Helen of Troy/Sparta -- world's most beautiful woman, cause of wars Tribe Manananggal
    consisting of:
  • Mastermold -- Gigantic mutant-hating robot who sits on a giant throne and poops out less gigantic mutant-hating robots
  • Kanoe -- evil secretary, wannabe dreamseer, organizer of the Dragons of Earth
  • Starscream -- whiny ambitious Decepticon
  • Severus Snape -- Hogwarts professor, former Death Eater
  • Wilhelmina Murray -- agent of the British crown, former vampire victim
  • Mikage Souji -- nonexistent high school genius and revolutionary
  • Data -- Starfleet officer, android
  • Chansey -- hardworking nurse pokemon Oh the suspense! Memorable moments from this show would include:
  • Kaworu being the first one voted off the island. He votes for himself, saying that he "doesn't deserve to survive".
  • Mastermold's plot to replace his teammates one by one with badly disguised sentinels programmed to follow his will.
  • Mikage building a coconut elevator and one by one putting each of his teammates through the seminar.
  • Mikage convincing Helen to defect to the other team. All-out war erupts between the two tribes, with Tikbalang fighting to get Helen back. It culminates with Mikage realizing that he doesn't exist and vanishing from everyone's memories, and Helen getting voted off the island. Now, tell me that's not a show you would watch every week.

So I get to school at around 1:20 for my 1:45 class. I go up to the building my class is in. There's a piece of paper taped to the door that says that all Law classes had been cancelled up to 3:00 due to a campus-wide bomb threat. I think to myself, what is this supposed to be, a Lawyer Bomb? Only Law students are suceptible? O_o

Well, I knew it was most likely that if Law classes were cancelled due to a bomb threat, then all classes must have been cancelled. Still, there was no sign that explicitly stated this. So, obsessive-compulsive as I am about my attendance record, I entered the building, braving the threat of being blown to itty-bitty pieces. It was only on the third floor that I found a sign that said that ALL classes had been cancelled.

Wa-hey. Now I had to spend another hour riding the bus all the way back home. :P On the way I stopped by Petco and petted an extremely friendly cat who got white hairs all over my black jacket.

    Today I was flipping through the new Animerica magazine in the comic store, and I found a nice big full-page color ad for... "Ceres: Celestial Legend". "Ceres: Celestial Legend"? That's gonna take some getting used to. O_o;; I'm kind of hoping that Viz goes for the Fushigi Yuugi route, combining the Japanese title and the translation ("Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play"). But then, "Ceres Celestial Legend -- Ayashi no Ceres" sounds kind of cumbersome. ^^;;

On a similar topic... There are many times when I feel like quoting Kubo in Otaku no Video: "Damn, I hate otaku." Not ALL otaku, and not just anime fans per se... but all manner of overzealous closed-minded nitpicky fans. The kind who threaten to boycott Pioneer because Chichiri says "you know" instead of "no da". The kind who act like Daniel Radcliffe is somehow a horrible person because he's playing Harry Potter in the movie even though he didn't read all of the books beforehand.

Actually, I've been thinking about this recently precisely because of discussions about the Harry Potter movie. "Oh, the movie's going to totally suck because the Harry kid's hair is too flat and the Ron kid's not tall enough. And that merchandise art has Harry with a slanted scar! Warner Brothers is the Devil." Bitch bitch bitch, moan moan moan. It drives me crazy. I'd rant some more, but I really should cook dinner now.

    OH YEAH!!!

*snicker* I used to have a Kool-Aid Man comic book. They were giving it out free somewhere. It had a bunch of stories with Kool-Aid Man going on camping trips and travelling through time to help Paul Revere liberate the United States from the British. And smashing through a lot of walls.

There were also sections on how to set up your own "Kool-Aid Stand", which is like a lemonade stand, only you sell Kool-Aid. When I was a kid, I thought this was the coolest idea, and I wanted to have a Kool-Aid stand of my very own. But there were a number of obstacles that prevented me from achieving my dream. For one thing, we had no actual sidewalk outside our house. I would have had to set up the table outside our driveway. Also, nobody passes by our house. We live on a dead end street on the outskirts of our subdivision. Few people drive by, and even fewer people walk by. And even if somebody did come by, who the hell would pay money to get a strange-colored drink from a crazy girl sitting at a table in her driveway? I guess the charming American tradition of the lemonade stand doesn't really translate well to the Filipino setting.

And the last obstacle... now that I think of it, I didn't really like Kool-Aid very much. My drink of choice would have been Hi-C.
